I want to declare an action listener on the main timeline which will listen to changes for Sizer and do something based on the current value of the slider.In AS2 this was really easy, but I cannot seem to figure it out for AS3.

I am working on a information visualization project that involves visualizing json data from online forums. The problem that I'm having is that I'm not able to access all of the values of elements the json. Here is my Schema:

I tested and the json is valid but when I run it with this code it only is able to pull the last value (Week 2 Discussion 1 - Cable and Broadcast Television).

So, my question is, why isn't it tracing all of the values for the forum title? and what do I need to change to access those values?
I just read the tutorial "Finding Values in an Array". Sure, the code works, but that's only because we are searching arrays the contain a small number of elements. Suppose we have n elements in an array. To search that array for a particular element we may have to do n comparisons. If the array we are searching contains 10 million elements, we have a problem; can you imagine doing "if (this == that)" 10 million times? There's got to be a better way to search the array. Or perhaps we shouldn't use arrays to store the information.
View 9 RepliesI was wondering about MC and hey can help to lag a game out. I set up an advanced class system so i don't have to use MC to simulate walls, all i use isthe x,y,width and height. Well anyway since i don't need MC anymore I was wondering if there is a way to attach Graphics instead of MC cause a Graphics file size is relatively small than that of a graphic, I think. If anyone could tell me thats true and show me a way to attach graphics that would be nice. I haven't tried it yet but maybe if I exported the graphic from the library imihgt be able to call its name, but it doesn't have an instance name so im stuck.
View 2 RepliesFlash CS5 I wish to e.g create a clone of a text box, I have named the text in properties, I select it and go copy paste in place and it is also with the same property name, so any coding affecting the one will affect that one also. If I rename this in properties maybe I will be ok and ind that it now is seen independently of the original item.
It seems that copy paste creates a linked item, delete or alter the one and the other ones changes also.What's the best way to utilise something you have created and make a clone to then modify this without the source also being influenced by the changes ?

But it needs to scale from 75 to 100 and back to 75 smoothly, while it's being moved by another script.

However, the Flash (.fla) have some internal graphics that are supposed to be over the graphical elements spawned from the custom class.I tried to make another layer over the layer where the as3 Class is being called, but unfortunately it doesn't do anything, the graphic from the .as still appearing over the internal .fla graphics.

View 1 RepliesI have a large vector drawing (imagine 5000x5000) that i want to break up into separate pieces. I know that I can convert this vector drawing into a bitmap and then use the copyPixels method to create many separate bitmaps of the different regions of the original vector drawing, but is there any way to subdivide it into movieclips that just contain vector graphics instead of a bitmap?The reason im dividing a big chunk of vector graphics into smaller pieces is for performance reasons, so flash would only render a small part of this big chunk at a time (only certain regions/voxels/subdivisions are rendered at a time). But bitmaps apparently take up a lot of memory and the system im using would take much less memory if these subdivisions could be preserved in their original vector graphics form.
I imagine I could use masks somehow to achieve this effect (for each subdivision, duplicate the huge image and mask only the region that the subdivision represents), but I dont know the performance costs of masking or if this will create other problems.So is there anyway to split up a movieclip of vector graphics into smaller movieclips of vector graphics the same way copyPixels can with bitmaps?
i am slightly confused about the parent and child relationship. lets assume we have several different instances, what would be difference of adding them all as children of the stage and creating a parent-child hierarchy between them(other than the access path).

I need to be able to compare the number of whole days between two dates in ActionScript, is this possible? I'd like to test if one date is 7 days or less after today, and if so is it one day or less (if it's before today this also counts).The workaround I have in place is using the .time part of the date field:

and i want to show these values on the Yaxis and months on Xaxis....
I have two Qns,
1) how can I pass this array to Bar chart or column chart.
2) how do I need to show months on Xaxis. beacuse I'm asking this regarding, I have kept a filters that even if we want to see some months or a particular months or perticalar span of months... there on Xaxis it need to change the months dynamically depending on the filters..... (for ex, on Xaxis the values should be (Jan, Apr, Jun,Oct) if i select the 3 months period filter....)
I have written a logic to collect the values of those particular months into an array, but not understading how to pass this array to Bar chart,, beacuse there I don't know what Xfield and Yfield to be given....
I have started to put together a flash piece. When I preview it, it displays as it should, however if I export the movie and then view the swf it doesn't display the animations from within one of the folders. I have made sure that the layers aren't hidden.

I have a prealoder which is done on action script 3. but the problem is when I added my swf movie it becomes just a plain graphic. All buttons converting in to graphic. I imported swf in to library first and drag and drop the swf movie from there to stage.
