ActionScript 2.0 :: Button - Change The Link Of Url Dynamically
Aug 23, 2004
is there a way, if i have a clear button in my movie with a load url actionscipt in it. is there a way to change the link of that url dynamicly. i know that sounds sort of crazy and ghetto, but is it possible?
I've got my flash application loading all the images found in an XML file (under <file>image</file> and i want to use the url found in the same node of each image <eventurl>url</eventurl> but I can't seem to target only the image I'm clicking.
If I click an image (and say there's 20 on stage all loaded dynamically) the button will try and take you to ALL the <eventurl>(s) found in the XML document.
Code: <pictures> <picture> <title>Flyer 1</title>
[Code]....
When you rollover the images they scale perfectly and it correctly only scales the SPECIFIC image you are rolling over. However when I try and do this for the click and try and make it target the corresponding images URL it tries to take you to ALL the urls.
I bought a flash template last week and have more or less being able to modify it to the way I wanted, its 95% done & I've had to make a couple sacrifices due to my lack of flash knowledge.
The blog on the website is now on a subdomain (I'm using wordpress for the blog), I also had a registration email form on my current site which is now gonna be on a seperate html subdomain too.
My problem is that I have one page on the flash template that I wanted to use for the blog but as that's not easily done. Instead of using the button to open an empty page, is there anyway I can redirect it to the Blog on the subdomain & open it in a blank window/tab?
I installed a flash template. It has navigation buttons with a nice roll-over effect. The buttons are all located within a symbol called "menu" (it is a Movie Clip type symbol, not a Button type). Each individual button in the menu appear to be in its own separate layer, so the first button is in a layer called "item1, second button in "item2", and so on. I want to edit the link for the fourth button so it goes to another website but I can't seem to find the code to edit the link. I managed to find
[CODE]...
and this does work - upon pressing the button it goes to the website link. However, there is no more roll-over effect for this button. So there has to be an alternative or better way to editing the link for this button (without removing the roll-over effect).
I have a separate html page that does this with a php script,reating that php file which is just a form that allows users to enter a passcode that I provide them which will then simply link them to an external html page. Since I don't know about php, I am thinking a possible work around would be to have a text input box which would allow a user to enter (passwordA) then click Submit to load (pageX.hmtl) or they could enter (passwordB) and Submit would load (pageY.html)
I have a swf file that displays data from an external text file, alongside a bunch of buttons that link to html pages. What i would like to achieve is to somehow use the external text file to alter the URLs of the buttons.
The swf i am building is getting used as a 'what's new' section, so it will be updated almost weekly, hence it reading the external text file (so i can update it without using the fla). And because the whats new section changes alot, so too does the button links. Hence, the buttons need to be updated aswell, and ideally, that can be done from the external text file.
Why don't i just use the dynamic text to <a href> to the new page you ask? because that would be sucky.Besides, i think that something like this could open more opportunities to the way we (well at least I) construct our fla's.

Hope the Kirupa Krew can help, if not then have a great day anyways.
Is there any way to change Spark button label dynamically? When i click on it, i want the label to change. I bind the String to label and gives value for the first time, but even flashBuilder shows me that Data binding will not be able to detect assignments. Here is my button:
I can run the code below, where the answers are dynamic text boxes hovering over the buttons. However, the user can't click the button where the textbox overlaps it. I need a way to either assign button labels like the 4 text boxes below or make it so the textboxes do not interfere with clicking the button?
var myXML:XML = new XML(); var XML_URL:String = "http://localhost/connect.php"; var myXMLURL:URLRequest = new URLRequest(XML_URL);
[Code]....
Update: I found the following to change the label, however I am confused as how I do this to buttons I have already created, perhaps using the instance name?
var myButton:Button = new Button(); myButton.label = "Click me";
Buttons works in many ways as movieclips, but for an example they dont have the getBounds method..etc etc..Is it possible to "equip" a native button, so it has al theese methods?..and behves more like a movieclip "why don't just use a movieclip".
I'm looking at creating some template designs for presentations and stuff like that. The only problem I have is not being able to get the consumers tastes down to a tee. The thing that is letting me down at the moment is that im not sure how to dynamically chage the colour of a graphic once a certain button has been clicked. e.g "say if i have index as my default page and the colour scheme is different tones of red how would i be able to change this to blue or green once another button has been clicked."
It would be much better to have this layed out as 'AS' rather than having many different (goto frame label and stufflike that. Im trying to phase myself out of tweens and focus more on the AS side of the whole game.
I created a somewhat custom Spark button by doing the File > New > MXML skin and basing it on spark.components.button. The problem is that I need to add an extra text field to the button component and dynamically change that text...but of course, the property isn't recognized on a Spark Button.
Is there a simple way to add this field to my custom button skin & its property so it can be addressed? If not, is there a simple way to take what I've done and just extend the Spark Button? I can't seem to find any examples that show how to do it without writing it all up in ActionScript.
i created my subMenu buttons fine, however i only know how to link them to a picture/url address, my goal is to have the user click the subMenu button and open the image or page right below the menu bar in the "stage" area of flash. I read about IFrames but i'd rather create the whole site in flash .Here is the code for my subMenu...
btn_34th.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, buttonClickHandler); function buttonClickHandler(event:MouseEvent):void { navigateToURL(new URLRequest("images/34th.jpg")); trace("I'm Clicked!");
Again, this works fine, i just want to have the image take up the "white" space on the stage area, very similar to an IFrame.
I've trawled the web, everyone with different ideas on how to call up a mailto link in AS3. What I'm looking for is this: I have a box, that is coverted to a button symbol given the name 'mailto'I have another layer for the actionscript I have imported 'flash.net.navigateToURL' and 'flash.net.URLRequest' I know I need to create a function or a variable to link in the already created button. Do I also need to import the MouseEvents?
I created this FLA to get used to CS4 (i was previously using8)Everything works wonderfully, I would just like to know how to use AS3 properly, without having to call defeat and create the FLA again using AS2.
I am dynamically loading data from an XML file into a text box. That part I have. But I would also like to have the TextBox a URL. Is there a way to also load the URL from the XML file?
I tried textbox.url = (MyXMLInfo)xml.node.child.text());
But I get an error in the output, "Cannot create property url on flash.text.TextField"
EDIT:::::: Ok, i remembered the addEventListener, and got that working. Except how can I make it so when the mouse is over the text, it turns into the finger icon instead of the I-Bar?
I have a gallery made and the images are loaded using xml. The images are links to larger images, but the problem is, the larger image opens in the same window. Here's the code that calls the images and makes them links:
ActionScript Code: function callImages() { _root.myImages_mc = _root.myGallery_mc.createEmptyMovieClip("myImages_mc", _root.myGallery_mc.getNextHighestDepth());
I have an an array of objects. I populate the datagrid from the array. The nmber of columns in the datagrid is fix i.e.5 and the first column always shows serial number (0,1,2,3,4). I have a link button called 'CLEAR' in the last column of the datagrid.
1> How do I make the clear button visible only when the row is particularly clicked 2> When the clear button is clicked, how do I make the contents of that particular row cleared. Not deleted, only cleared to insert data again. Also, the serial number (0,1,2,3,4) should not be cleared, nor deleted. How to do this ?
I am trying to play a video dynamically and make it clickable as like a link.[code]The Video player seems to appear and the video plays well too but there is a problem with the onClick Event which doesnt work no matter what i try. the click action never seems to work..what am i doing wrong here.
I'd like to make sort of gallery with previous/next buttons. And on each image you'd have circles/link over important parts of the image.So each image wold have these circles on different locations. Question: how can I make that dynamically? And that it's not to complicated for the editor of the site? One way would be to write in XML x and y positions.
I have a flash file and I want to be able to hover over it and see the cursor change and when I click I want to be sent to a page I specify on a website.
I've tried "on(release) etc" in ActionScript (although I know nothing!) and it says I need to use NavigateToURL so I tried searching on the Internet and couldn't find anything?
What i want to do is make the flash template bi-language.the Index file is linked to Main_F7.swf and to tfile_main.xml so i figured the easiest option for me (just a started with flash) is to make a second copy of Main_F7 (Main_F72) and link this one to tfile_main2 (second language).
index --> main_F7 --> tfile_main (first language) with a button to the index2 file index2 --> main_F72 --> tfile_main2 (for the second language) with a button to the index file
The site will open in english and whenever the button flag is clicked the second language will open.
I have a Flash project created in an earlier version that I'm opening in CS3. I'm trying to change one link, but it appears to be buried in code and I can't locate it and I need to change the link to an outside page.
I've a assets swc file that contains several TLFTextField objects, each one with it's style (font, color, size).
I use the following code to set a link:
var text_tf : TLFTextField; var url : String = "www.stackoverflow.com"; text_tf.htmlText = "<a href='http://" + url + "' target='_blank'>"+url+"</a>";
This works as expected, but it changes the color of the text to blue;
What's the easiest way to configure the color of the text, without having to recreate all the TLF mechanism (ContainerController, Configuration, TextLayoutFormat, TextFlow, ParagraphElement, LinkElement, SpanElement, ...);
