using AS, on loading a movie a solid shape is there with alpha at 100% then over a period of 5 secs its alpha is reduced to 0.

Im trying to have a small sized flv video that plays on top of another flv, the top one fades out. It technically works, but it randomly sometimes doesnt fully fade out. It would stop half way fading or just about gone but not quite or doesnt do it all.
75% of the time it works.Im wondering if flash balks at ram/processor usage and just quits fading, but cpu is only at 16 when it fades. Or if the tween class is buggy.

I originally had a timing code in there so it would fade out after a period of time, Ive removed it for simplicity. It still doesnt fade properly.
can someone give me an idea how I would use a function to enlarge and change the alpha of a button but make it span over a period of time like it was an animation.a long time ago on gear78.com I think he used functions to make his buttons do what they did and it was badass. if I find another site I will post a link. if you don't know what the heck I am talking about tell me and I will try and explain it more.

just spotted this curious trick. If you want to flip something to go invisible on a click, and then reappear on another click (etc etc), try this:
create the sprite, setting alpha to either to 1 OR -1
mySprite.alpha=1; //OR
mySprite.aplha=-1;

View 6 RepliesI have a movieclip named holder inside a movieclip named wrapper and a button that loads an external swf into wrapper.holder when it is pressed.I want to be able to fade in the external swf after its loaded by tweening the Wrapper movieClip's alpha property but the external swf just keeps appearing. When I use the same code to load an external jpg everything works fine. I used an onEnterFrame event to trace the _alpha of wrapper and it shows wrapper tweening in in 3 unit intervals.

I have a movieclip and I am loading on it an external swf. The mc is just a square box basically...it is set to 69% alpha/transparent in the "Color effect: style: alpha" settings.The problem is, when I load the swf now the swf is also transparent (seems like 69%)...I basically want the mc to be transparent, but the swfs that load w/in it should not be transparent.

What I wanna do i s to load external pic 1 on start, after clicking on pic 1, pic 2 is loading with alpha form 0 to 100. Then after clicking pic 2 going back to pic1 also with alpha, and so back and forward.I tried 2 do as follows:

I've got something very strange happening with the alpha of some loaded pictures. I load 27 images dynamically from within a class:

However the first 4 portraits won't change alpha to a float number, I can only set the alpha to 1.

Results in a blank screen for the first 4 portraits... All the other portraits change transparency fine. There's nothing wrong with the loaded pictures because I swapped 1 for 10 and the problem remained while image 10 in an other position changes alpha just fine.
I have set up a site I am building...real basic I know.rolling text boxes).So Here's my question...when you use the load movie command...in this case, I am using buttons on my main nav (level 0) to fire the load movie command for subpage swfs located on level 1...is there a script that I can write that would make the level 1 swf fade (dissolve) on using the _alpha command instead of just appearing (from thin air...like a cut in videospeak)???. Is there a way to create a similar transition for unloading the swf as well?

I'm trying to duplicate this type of mouse trail. I can't tell if it's deforming a movie clip or drawing separate objects on the stage. I can duplicate it at slow speeds, but at a fast speeds I have no idea how they're doing it.
The MouseEvent.MOUSE_MOVE is way to slow on the update to draw exactly where the mouse is going so I tried using curveTo to create a curve but unfortunately you still hit a point where you get a sharp angle.

I put one in a movie clip and when i try to change the alpha of it everything else in it changes its alpha but the not the DT box. The thing should work like this: theres a movie clip in frame 10 of the timeline with two buttons inside, by clicking one of them the movie should jump to frame 15 and take the alpha of two Mc there (they are inside a different movie clip) to 0. View 5 RepliesI have one line that is going down 500 pixels with the instance called 'vertical'. I also have a line set next to it with aplha = 0. When the vertical line going down reaches 300 pixels, I want the line which is set to 0 to set the alpha = 100. The code I am trying does not work.. Here is what I am putting in

Seems simple enough, but the line becomes 100% alpha from the very beginning of the movie. Do I have to do anything with _root or what?
I know how to change the alpha of one movie clip at a time on rollover, rollout, and release. But I'm a bit stuck trying to figure out how I would change the alpha of multiple movie clips, when one is clicked. It's for a simple photo gallery and I want all the thumbnails to darken once one has been clicked & the image is loading. I can't just fake it by having a somewhat transparent black movie clip appear over everything, because I need the alpha of each thumbnail to be able to change again once people roll over a new thumbnail.(a section of my code is included for reference but there are like 30 thumbnails so I didn't include it all, the code is the same for everything)

I have created a website on the time line. There is actionscipt contolling which frame to play via a button. Within this button is a movieclip with a fade in using alpha on its own timeline with a stop(); at the end.The problem is I only want it to play when you first see it from moving to that page from the main timeline. Currently if i move over the button it plays the movie again which i dont want to happen. I do however want to retain the over states etc for the button.

I can't seem to access the alpha property of a movie clip. I can change it's y x position but not the alpha....
This works great: loader2.lettercontainer.letter_mc1._y=50;
But this doesn't do anything: loader2.lettercontainer.letter_mc1._alpha=50;
The movieclip "letter_mc1" contains a createTextField with one letter in it. I'm completely lost why this isn't working....
