ActionScript 2.0 :: Open A File In Its Default App On Windows XP SP2 In Flashplayer 7?
Feb 22, 2005
I need to open a file in its default app, on windows XP SP2, in flashplayer 7.I've searched and found some exe files that claim to be able to do just that, but i cant get it to work.

I've managed to open a given exe file from the fscommand folder, but cant get the above examples to work - i think the problem is, that i cant send parameters to the exe file.
I created a CD presentation that runs an executable file (fscommand), it works great on XP and vista, but windows 7 doesnt open it. Have anyone run into this before?
I'm trying to openWithDefaultApplication a downloaded file (stored into app documents directory) on iPad. I installed PDFReaderLite, still openWithDefaultApplication don't rexognizes extension pdf. What can I do to make PDFReaderLite be a default app for opening pdf?
The powers that be have decided a project I'm working on shouldn't go on a website after all, but needs to be on a CD for Windows users instead and of course I only have a couple of days to made the "relevant tweaks" as they call them.It needs to run directly from the CD so I presume AIR isn't a good option.I've got all of it working by publishing to a Windows Projector executable. The bit I'm stuck with is allowing users to click buttons to open various directories which will be on the CD. These are source files for following tutorials from the main part of the CD. I've tried playing around with the various options in the FileReference class (namely browse() and download()), but they seem to be set up for use online only.
I want my app (AIR app ported on iOS) to be able to show file located on the remote server and open it with default app (if there's one on device). Is it possible (maybe one can somehow use openWithDefaultApp here)?
UPD: I succeed with downloading (into File.documentsDirectory). I can't force iPad to open downloaded files.
UPD2: I tried to use both openWithDefaultApp and NavigateToUrl.
Is there a work around to the getURL Firefox issue? I am having trouble getting Firefox to open my file from my exe when FF is set to my default browser. If FF is already open, the getURL functions fine. If FF is closed, I have to click on my button twice in order to open the file (ie, click once opens a blank window, click again and the file opens) I have FF 2.0.0.1, Flash MX 2004 Prof. I have tried setting an interval to have the getURL fire again but I can't seem to get it to work.
Does anyone know of a flash projector 'project' or 'framework' that uses a new flashPlayer for each window?We've used mProjector, which works well to a point, but I'm very disappointed in the fileIO patterns they use. It is very buggy with regard to reading and writing files.
mdm zinc uses multiple windows, but it is all sits on one flashPlayer 'session'. The same applies for AIR. It is great, but there isn't a way to make each window run on a seperate flashPlayer... extreme number crunching on one window will lock up all other windows.
edit - Just to clarify my needs (since I'm adding a little bounty), the app is an ERP application, built on Flex 3.x, and the size and scope of the project == huge.
tl;dr -- I need an exe wrapper (for windows), similar to AIR, that can have multiple windows, running each window on a seperate flashPlayer instance, and when a window is closed, it blows-away that flashPlayer instance / stage / etc.
I need to made a Browser windows before that i open the Flash movie, like this one: [URL] So i need somme kind of pop up to run when somme one opens the site, and then see the movie.
I'm using Flex in Flash Player 10 on Windows, using FileReference to load a file into memory, as below.My issue is that when a file is locked by Windows, my FileReference is not giving me any feedback that the file is inaccessible--it simply never dispatches any events after my calling load().Does anyone have insight into how to tell that Flash Player is unable to open the file?
var fileReference:FileReference = new FileReference(); private function onClick():void { fileReference = new FileReference(); fileReference.addEventListener(Event.SELECT, onSelect);
I picked up enough AS3 recently to create some advertising banners and they work perfectly when I test the movie within CS3 by using ctrl+enter. I uploaded the created swf on the website and experienced lots of weird problems like child mcs stopping to play after a while or movies not playing till the end etc.. On some movies, they will play properly if you reload the website, on some others (the one which doesnt play till the end) that wont fix the problem either. The banners' filesizes are also around 8KB for example and include only text and vectors.
I published my movie by letting Flash create an html file, and the exact same problems are occurring there aswell. I mean I got strict mode and everything turned on in Flash but I'm not getting any errors at all when testing the movie. I also dont see any visual errors. It's just the swf acting differently in a browser.
So I'm trying to figure out what the difference between the flashplayer used by CS3 and the one in firefox is for example. I got the latest flashplayer (10 r22) on firefox and it seems that CS3 is using the flashplayer 9 (I'm not sure about this but its the player I found in the CS3 folder).I'm using timeline based tweens (I know it sucks and I did this mostly on the first banners I created and started using the tween classes built in Flash later on when I learned more AS3) so wondering if this is the problem.
I'm kind of new to flash, and I'm working in CS3 AS3. Here is my code. - Home is my button instance name

Now, _top, _self, I can't get anything to work for what I want to do. What I'm trying to do is make it so when I click a link, it opens it in the SAME tab. I have seen many (dozens) of these problems, but none seem to help. On firefox, it openes in a new tab, (I have it set so windows open in new tabs), on IE it opens in a new window, and in chrome it opens in a new tab. Please help me fix this problem,
Is it possible to open just my default mail "e.g. outlook" rather than open a browser and the outlook? on(release){ getURL("mailto:mymail@mail.com"); }
I it possible to prelowad a sound file with javascript (or gwt) and feed it to a flashplayer without a server roundtrip?I would like to play the sound right after a uses clisks a button on a web site without a delay caused by server roundtrip.
I have a url link i want to be executed but I DO NOT want it to open up a new page or anything. Just call it invisibly without the user knowing. I thought I could use the Post option but im not having much luck.
I have different buttons to open another browser window using getURL. The problem is each button opens a new browser window. If a user does not close the window when coming back, there would be many browser windows open the same time. A few users get confused by this thinking that they are accessing the same page.Is there a way to control it so the popup will open all at the same window (if someone chooses not to close the window each time)?
I have a swf file with 5 buttons each button goes to a different url, so lets say i have 5 buttons, button 1 goes to preloader1 button 2 goes to preloader2 and so on.the problem is if i click on button 1 and open preloader1, then click on button 2 it opens preloader2 in the same window as preloader1, how would i do it so it opens a different window,here is the as3 code
Code: function viewPopup(e:MouseEvent) { var address1:String = "room2/preloader.php"; var jscommand1:String = "window.open('" + address1 +

i have changed this _self to _blank but still doesnt work
we're developing an app that should be able to open specified file with default editor application. (so if it is .doc - it suppose to be opened by MSWord or openOffice)
But I also need to wait until user will close the editor, check if it was changed (by size and date), and upload it to the server.
So the following steps:
1) find def editor
2) open file
3) wait it be closed
4) do smth after that with the file.
now results of my research: -> opening by def editor is simple: file.openWithDefaultApplication();
but there is no way to know that editor is closed (maybe by checking that file is not locked in timer???)
-> i can start the native process and pass file as parameter BUT looks like the code NativeApplication.nativeApplication.getDefaultApplication(file.extension); does not work for any extension :( - it doesnt work for "rtf", "doc" but works for "pdf"... and [file.openWithDefaultApplication()] works fine with any file!
The things is, I've build an application in flex which suppose to be for web but when I'm running it through the Flash builder, it opens up flash player app instead of opening in a web browser. I've tried to do "run as webapplication" but failed.
But when I click on that link in our standalone.exe, on my system "ultraedit" gets opened and it tries to open a path on the local system and the webpage adress after that. "C:ProjectsInflationhttp:\www.google.de".
Is there a reg key or custom GPO out there that will let me default Flash Player to open in Low Quality mode? Whenever a flash site opens, it opens in High Quality.Using Win 2003 SP1, with IE6 with Flash Player 9.0.
I'm working on my companys website and I am trying to make a link from flash open the default mail program so they can send us an email. All of that works fine and dandy.... on PCs. While using a mac I was not able to get the email to go through, it will just send back an undeliverable email. Does anyone know of a solution for this or am I going to have to completely change the way that I'm doing it?
Heres my HTML Code: infoEmail.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, getInfo); function getInfo(e:MouseEvent){ navigateToURL(new URLRequest("mailto: email@emailaddress.com"), "_self"); } I know that the PC email actually goes through, it forwards it to me.
I have a Flash form sending variables to an ASP script (bono.asp) in order to print a discount bonus. The bonus grafic is then shown in a new window for the user to print with his/her data on it. (name, address, etc). Well, the problem is that it not only opens a new window with the bonus (without the data ), it also opens the bonus in the current window (with the data), forcing the user to "go back" to the flash website and loading the entire animation again. This is the code in the Flash form asociated to the Button:
