I would like to restrict user input to numbers only between letters. for example: the user is allowed to input "a2b", but "2ab" or "ab2" isn't allowed.

I am working on an application in which i have put one Multi line input text box. I want to allow user to enter data only up to 8 Lines. User can not enter more than 8 lines. So is there any solutions..??? I dont want to use MaxChars as it can restrict user to not enter more than predefined number of characters. View 4 RepliesI've written a function that restricts user input to just numbers (0-9,.) and stores the input in the associative array, userInput[]. It works but seems inefficient looping through the entire input text string to scrub out invalid characters. Anyone have suggestions for a more efficient approach? Note that a working solution must correctly process mouse or cursor key movements/edits within the input box.
Also, you can see I'm using the KeyboardEvent.KEY_UP event to trigger the processing. The docs seem to indicate TextEvent.TEXT_INPUT is really the proper event for this purpose. I started with TextEvent.TEXT_INPUT but found the event is triggered before the last key pressed is actually added to the instance. The result is that the function was always one characterbehind. Is there an easy way to get the current text in the input box, including the last key pressed, when processing TextEvent.TEXT_INPUT?
I am trying to automate the input process so that when a user inputs 3 numbers into the first field, it automatically jumps to the next one. I have the code to do it and it seems as though it should work but, for some reason, when I move focus from one field to the next the data in the previous field is re-arranged so that the last character input becomes the first (610 becomes 061 - for example).Here is my code:

View 6 RepliesI have an Array of objects that each have a Name and a Score. I can sort the Array with '.sortOn()' by the object's Name or the Score, but when I sort by the Score, if some Names have the same Score, they don't list Alphabetically within that Score.
The following code shows what I mean. The Names with a Score of 50 are together when listed by Score, but they are not Alphabetical. How do I combine both ways of sorting?

I need to convert a many paged document into numbers.
logicly a=1, b=2, ..z=26 & 1=1, 2=2, etc.. the numbers of the letters need to be seperated by comma's
and the spaces between words must be replaced by dashes
so for example: "i am crazy for doing this" should look like this:
"9-1,13-3,18,1,26,25-6,15,18-4,15,9,14,7-20,8,9,19"
does anyone know of a script that will take up to 500 words per conversion, or does anyone know a application that will be able to do this? unlimited amount of words would even be better.

I use a TextInput component of Flex 4.5 to enter some text in English. I use the restrict attribute to ... restrict the keyboard input to characters a-zA-Z only. The problem is that if i copy/paste a word in another language, i can then paste it into the TextInput component. Is there a way to avoid that? i have a question that is almost like other questions but with a small but very important difference. how can i restrict file types for user with a popup showed in the browser.
The standard file input of html can limit that with a command but it does not work in all browser so it is not an option. I do not want to validate the file extension after the user has chosen a file but before that, when he is choosing.[URL].. but it uploads the file after the user has chosen it, i do not want to do that, i want to upload it after the user submits the form.
So the problem looks like this that there are some ways of not letting the user send a not valid file but they are not good because, one is that i validate after the user have chosen the file and the other is that i upload the file before the user submits the form.
I just want a simple thing to not letting to "chose" a not valid file, it does not matter if it will be made with java script or flash, just let it work.
I'm making a project in which I have a input/output text box. I'm trying to restrict the words that are able to be said in the input box, but I can't seem to figure out how I'd do that. I'd think that I'd use .replace, and possibly an if function which tells it that if a word used does not equal the allowed words, to replace it with something such as ###.
