ActionScript 3.0 :: Adding Navigation Buttons To Slideshow?
Mar 18, 2010
I followed a tutorial to build a click-thru photo gallery that is linked to an XML file. The tutorial set up the navigation as being controlled by clicking the images, but I wanted to add some more obvious navigation prompts for viewers on my website. The "next" button was easy to do as I just copied the actions for clicking the images on the main section of the stage, but when it came to building the "previous" button, the code was not working. I want the button to take the audience to the image before the image they are on when clicked.
I've pasted what I have below and highlighted the sections that I have altered. If you could please tell me what I'm doing wrong, that would be great.
I have tried several navigation scripts and z-index all over the place but no matter what I try the sub-folders of my navigation on my homepage always gets hidden by the slideshow. Can someone tell me how to correct this? If you need to see it go to this site and move your mouse over the 3rd link down (home services) to have the sub-folder come out:
Was hoping to get some advice here. Having trouble with what would seem to be a basic navigational system for an iPad presentation. I have, for this example, 5 pages in my library which I've added into an array. The effect I'm aiming for, when the user swipes to go to the next page, it should:
- Add the next page to stage using addChild (out of view) - Tween the current page out of view, tween the next page into view - Remove the old page using removeChild.
The reasoning for this is I will have a large amount of pages with heavy animation and I'm trying to avoid having them all present on stage at once to prevent a drop in FPS.
Here is my code so far. I've tried a few things such as trying to re-set currentPage with the array but have had no luck. Been pulling my hair out for a few hours now!
I'm making an xml slideshow width 2 navigation arrows. I have loaded either the xml and the images. The problem is this: in the first frame i have a movieclip called "foto1" in which i load the first photo and underneath this i have another movieclip called "foto3". I load the two photos and i fade "foto1" to "foto3". after i'm going to the second frame in wich i have "foto3" and underneath this "foto1". I've loaded "foto3" but when the movie go to the second frame "foto3" contains nothing.

I've got an interesting issue with the actionscript in my file. I've created a slide show with 27 labeled frames - they've been labeled "frame 1", "frame 2", "frame 3", etc... My issue is the first time everything works perfectly, if you hit next or previous. It goes to the correct frame. On the last frame if you click next it should take you back to "frame 1" and basically loop through all the frames again if you keep pressing next. The problem is it goes back to frame 1, and then next doesn't work on this frame. I don't understand what's going on considering the first time around - these frames work perfectly. Here's the code on frame 1:

I'm new to Actionscript 3, and what I'm trying to do is build a navigation menu. What I did is I made a movieclip, added two listeners to it, MOUSE_OVER, and MOUSE_OUT, the MOUSE_OVER tells the menu to play, so it then animates the opening of it. The problem though, that when I put my mouse on the buttons themselves, the menu thinks that the mouse is out of it. I understand that the mouse left the menu itself and entered some other object. I thought of making a new rectangle, and on the mouse out, to check whether the mouse is really out of the menu's regions, it didn't work though.
My favorite error: ArgumentError: Error #2025: The supplied DisplayObject must be a child of the caller.at flash.display:isplayObjectContainer/removeChild()
What I am trying to do is basically get my navigation working correctly. I had it working by altering the alphas of movieClips, but they just end up overlapping each other even if they are invisible so that's not working out. I have 5 navigation pages. And thus, 5 nav buttons, and 5 movieClips (content for each page -- Home, Location, Tenants, Design, Contact). I want to simply show the home movieclip when on the home page and remove the movieclips from the stage for the other 4 pages.
Then, logically, I want to click the Tenants page, which removes the home page, location, design, and contact movieclips. Very straightforward show only one and remove the rest from the stage, but every combination of add/removeChild and parent and stage etc. is giving me that error above. What's confusing me the most is that the add and removeChild works for the location page, but none of the others. The location movieClip is no different than the others, and I made the code the same but it's the only one that works.
I started my First XML Slideshow/Gallery. Through perseverance and with a little help I have manages to get my thumbnails perfect the problem I am now faced with is adding my main images. I have managed to add the image to my stage but I want the relevant image to only appear when an onClick function is called by the thumbnail. Here is my problem, I dont know how to call the specific image in the onClick function only all of them (it would appear)?
Code: import com.greensock.*; import com.greensock.easing.*; var urlRequest:URLRequest = new URLRequest("slideshow.xml");
I've been asked to incorporate a slideshow into a website that I'm working on, which is fine, except they have seen a particular tranition effect that is used between images, this can be seen on these two sites...[URL]. Its kind of a bleach effect? Which I presume is achieved using some sort of tween engine like Tweenmax or the Fusekit? The Honda site also has a nice second transition effect which is pretty cool, where dots kind of fall away? Has this just been done on the timeline?
I love the XML slideshow code that I found on this site, but I was wondering if anyone knows how to expnad on it- for each image that comes up in the slideshow, I want 2 or more smaller images to come up beside it (i'm making a portfolio site, and each small image will be part of the campaign relating to the large image). The even trickier part is when someone clicks on the smaller images, their larger image should come up.
I've got a little test swf showing what I've made so far: [URL] What I'm wondering is how to add a play and stop button to this, I've set it up as separate scenes for each image, but my concerns are when there are maybe 20 or so images to flick through, some users may prefer to just click play, as is common and let it do it automatically...(but I don't want it to load playing) I'm not sure how you'd go about producing a script that starts playing on press of the play button from whatever scene you're on
How would someone go about getting the actionscript to look for another field in the xml file that had a Url link to a webpage for each image that would be activated by clicking on that particular image.
I downloaded the trial of flash cs4 and have created a simnple flash.I am creating a simple slideshow, each of the slides should be clickable and redirect the browser.I created images then imported them and they were automatically converted to symbols.I combined the symbols using some motion tweens.I then created an actions layer and created clasic tween wher I want the user to be able to click. My problem is I cant get it working. I think I am not referencing the right objects.[code]I have tried setting the object reference to the motion tween instance name, the classic tween name on the actions layer and the symbol name none seem to work
I was able to take an existing Flash file created in '06 and make a simple slideshow. See it at: [URL]. Now I've been asked to add buttons and make the slides fade instead of slide into each other. They want it like this: [URL]. So I created a very simple mock up: [URL]. I just can't get the buttons to work like the prosolassociates one above. I have attached the FLA here for review. Attachments: slideshow_buttons.fla.zip (9.0 K)
It all works fine. However, I am trying to put in links on the stage outside of SSP (i.e., Home, Gallery, About, etc.) as shown in this example website [URL]. When I do, the stage is truncated and part of SSP is skewed off the page.
How do I make sure that my stage containing text and SSP is captured as the SWF?
I have been using the tutorial on the Photo Slideshow Using XML and Flash, and think it is fantastic. It is really clear and easy to follow. However I have encoutered three things with it. Firstly I would love to be able to add a border around each thumbnail accross the bottom, that would change color when the user rolls over the thumbnail.I would also like to be able to highlight which thumbnail is currently being shown as the top image. The third issue I have had is when a user moves the mouse to the right of the first image, it scrolls about 5 pixels to the right even though there is no other image before it.
I am new to Flash CS4 so I may be doing something stupid. I created my assests on Photoshop CS4 and imported them into flash as flash layers. I followed a training video by Paul Trani about creating a first website. I have several pages in my site, home, about, contact, photos etc. I created navigation buttons for the homepage and they work great. However on my other pages I created different buttons as they are in a different place and have some additional buttons that the homepage does not have (except the contact page has common buttons to the homepage). I put the homepage and second page (contact) actions on frame 1. I then created a new keyframe at frame 20 where the rest of the pages uses common buttons. I then changed the language in the action script so as not to conflict with the frame 1 action script. I had trouble making the second group of buttons work so I created a new actions layer (actions2) and they work, except.
Well my homepage buttons work, all of them. I can even go to my contact page (which share the same buttons with the homepage) and then go back to the home page. I can also go from the homepage to the other pages and those buttons work... UNTIL I go back to the home page or to the contacts page (the pages that share buttons) then those buttons NO LONGER WORK??? It seems like once I committ myself to one group of pages (I consider myself having two groups of pages based on the sharing of buttons by each group) it disables the other group.
I've looked at endless tutorials, including ones that just say "copy this code" and none of it works, so here I go: I want to make a flash document that will play 20 different scenes. The scenes are independent of one another (will stop when they reach their end rather than continuing to the next, etc.), and are selected for viewing via a navigation bar on the left side (with 20 buttons respective of each scene, obviously). So, I've tried numerous code to try and make the first frame of each scene recognize all the buttons (they are the same for each scene), and make each button skip to it's respective scene.
However, nothing seems to work. Even the "stop();" function ceases to work as soon as I try to enter more code to make the buttons work. So, my question, in essence, is how do I get something like this to work? A generic example code or template would obviously be very useful (instance name and such are not complicated, as I just use "button01_btn" "button02_btn" / "Scene 01" "Scene 02" etc.), I'm using actionscript 3, but admittedly know very little about coding
I'm trying to generate buttons derived from an xml file, and attach the created buttons to a movie clip. Right now, nothing is appearing within the movieclip. Code: _global.itemArray = new Array(); var button_spacing = 45; var button_count = 0; total_button_count = 0; [Code] .....
I'm into a personal project with the Tween Method:
A menu with 5 buttons inside the movie clip instanced from bt1 to bt5.A main movie clip that extends the stage dimensions. When buttos are released they shall target to the respective Y value and stop.So..
I was thinking of adding frame on top of my home poage to give users better navigation with a meun on top.But how do you make when you press the button in flash the hyperlink will make the frame at the bottom or specific frame page to change?
I have this slideshow that I'm so close to having completed, but there's one issue I'm having with it not resuming after certain buttons are used. I've tried to figure out what could be causing this but I just can't see what it could be. I feel I'm so very close to having this completed if it weren't for this one issue.
In the slideshow buttons '1' and '2' work perfectly, however buttons '3' to '6' are not working completely as they should. During the slideshow, as it plays through the slides if you click on button '1' or '2' you are taken to the corresponding slide and then the slideshow automatically resumes, which is correct. However, if you click on any of buttons '3' to '6' you are still taken to the corresponding slide, but the slideshow does not resume and stays on that particular slide. I've looked over the Action Script 3 code several times and I just don't see what could be causing this but I'm not too experienced so there could be some error, no matter how minor, that I am missing.
