ActionScript 3.0 :: Buttons Freaking Out And Move Very Fast Up And Down

I have four buttons across the bottom of my scene. When hovered, the buttons "should" animate upwards to reveal more of the button that is hidden. It should stay there until you mouse-out then it should animate to its original position. My problem is it seems that the buttons active area moves with the up and downward animation making it freak out and move very fast up and down as if it is being told to animate back down then triggered to animate back up at the same time. So it looks very bad and unusable. I'm not really sure why it's doing this. It's a little hard to explain so here's a url to download my FLA.

when i click some button it move and stays there, until i click another one, so its working fine..but if you click two buttons fast enough they both move ? how can i manage to stop this?

Problem is that my rewind and fast forward buttons do not work properly in the sense that they start to mess up when you fast forward or rewind past the current scene. It seems to just skip through the whole movie and totally mess up the animation.the code for the controls is on a single layer and reads as the following:

I have a small mask that I need to animate across the stage in response to clicking various buttons. It has to go a different distance each time depending on which button is clicked along the x axis. I can get at the starting and ending x co-ordinates. I need to develop a set of x coordinates so that the mask starts moving fast and slows down as it gets nearer - kind of like the easing effect. I figured using some sort of simple 1/x^2 expression and have spent an hour or so fiddling in excel. Trouble is its a LONG TIME since I did maths, and I can't remember what formula to use. Have tried google with "parabola", "simple curves" etc.

After read a lot about ball physics, watch some examples and few days of trying making pinball with bitmaps, I use simple (easy to work with) and fast performance Physics AS3 engine for bitmaps [URL] but still cant fix problem: if ball is moving too fast and object on path is too small, there will be no collision detection (code works perfect only with bigger objects or if ball is moving slower). I am not good at physics and maths. Here is function code which make physics for ball on every frame rate (but maybe its better to change it to setTimeout):

I am making a breakout type game where you bounce a ball around and it hits & breaks blocks.The issue im having is with handling the ball after a collision is detected.Every frame the ball checks four points on its surface to see if they are colliding with any of the blocks. The problem occurs when the ball starts moving fast. The ball's radius is 7 pixels. If it is moving upwards at higher than7 px/ frame, then the ball might end up half way into one of the blocks.
In that case the ball detects a collision on its top AND on its side (which is bad -- If the ball is travelling upwards it should detect the collision at the top of the ball)how I could fix this so that I can make the ball move fast without sacrificing the accurate detection of collisions??

well i want to make buttons that on rollover move to left, on rollout move back to their initial position, and if clicked, they but stay this time at the final rollover place, and be there until something else is clicked. When something else is clicked, the previous button , returns to its initial place. So i ve got it all figured out except for the freeze and move part when the buttons are clicked. All it does now , is when they are clicked they freeze at the position i want, but i havent got a clue how to update them, after so they start moving back, and reacting on rollover and rollout, when the next button is clicked.

This code is meant to assist the fast-forward and reverse buttons catch actions that occur on the timeline as they travel along skipping 15 frames at a time, but the actions are not being caught for some reason.

It has been awhile since I have worked in flash.Right now I am working on something where I would like a panel to disappear when someone mouses off the stage.stage.addEventListener(Event.MOUSE_LEAVE, leaveHandler); It usually works fine but if I move my mouse really fast it doesn't fire. I have also tried the same thing using a custom invisible button that surounds the perimeter of the stage and I have tried ROLL_OVER and MOUSE_OVERand again, if I do it too fast my event doesn't fire (I am using trace)I can't find anything on the net about this - is this typical of flash that if you move your mouse too fast you break it? Do I need to increase my frame rate (I would really rather not because I have perfectly timed animations - I am at 30 frames per second)

I was looking for a way to create play, stop, rewind and fast forward buttons for an animation I created in Flash. I found a nice description at republicofcode.com/tutorials/flash/controller_bc/, but after trying the code for stop and play I get the error: Access of possibly undefined property onRelease through a reference with static fl.controls:button.

I have written a custom component in CS5 and exported it as an SWC. It works fine and dandy if I place it on a timeline with one frame. It compiles in a timely manner, and ends up being 33k in size... However if I extend the timeline to say... 240 frames (10 seconds), and do nothing else (the component persists on all frames) it takes several orders of magnitude longer to compile (from a couple seconds to a few minues). Yet, the compiled swf remains exactly the same size (down to the last byte). I'm assuming the compiler is doing some sort of optimization... But I'd like to know what's going on... It should not take that long to compile the video, and makes the component practically useless.. I know there aren't many people doing Components (especially in Flash).

So I am working on a portfolio site for a friend. She has a few photo galleries. Each one on it's own frame with an empty movieclip that loads an external .swf gallery (has pre-loader bar). There's three Sections so I have three buttons with _root.gotoAndStop("framelablehere"); behaviors on each frame.
What happens is if the external .swf file is loading and you decide to click to another section while the .swf has not finished loading my whole timeline freaks out and plays threw all the frames in my main movie. So it goes threw every section of the entire site! I have multiple stop();'s threw out my main movie. Basically one for each frame in my main movie plus more in the external .swf's.

I am having trouble with a job I am doing at the moment which has an mc with buttons within it. I want it so that when I roll over the mc it tweens from a small version to a larger version, and on this mc there are some buttons. At the moment I can get the mc to move but the buttons remain inactive and also the rollover states on the buttons don't work. I have attached a simpler version of what I am trying to do to this post.

I'm creating a menu system, the text buttons should, on rollover, move all buttons to the left (of the button currently rolled over) 100 pixels, in the gap created a sub menu running vertically will appear which will break into a 2nd horizontal submenu etc. I'm still in the early stages, and have hit a stumbling block, I placed a trace (this); cmd in root of the roll over function then again in each segement of the IF/ELSE loop inside that fuction. The trace CMD in the root of the rollover gives me the feed back _level0.btn1 or 2 or what ever button I have rolled over but the ones inside the IF/ELSE loop all say _level0.btn0 regardless of the button I roll over!

relatively new to flash and I'm trying to put together a little interactive map. On this map I have a series of buttons which when clicked display further information on the area it. The map is a movie clip and which can be moved about by dragging and dropping. When I move the map the buttons stay in the position I set them whilst the map move. How could I go about making the buttons follow their set position on the map when its moved.

When the car is at button 1, and you mouseover button 2, the car moves towards button 2, then when you mouseover button 3, the car moves towards button 3 etc., all while the car stays on the road (path) that it sits on - so not like a mouse follow but constrained to the path. I also need the car to go in reverse, so if the car is at button 4, and you mouseover button 3, the car will move towards it.

I know everyone has wrote this a hundred times, BUT I just can't get it to work
I have a main content area called MC that is very wide Then a mask around the area I want to see of the MC
I have two buttons set up below the mask for LEFT and RIGHT
How to I make those buttons move the main content, and stop when It gets to the end of the masked area so you dont just keep scrolling
ALL I HAVE in my code right now, is attached the left and right buttons---

The button works quite well, except that I would like the sub-menu to close up once the mouse clicks elsewhere on the screen. I have tried to find the Action Script for this but have been unsuccessful. What script can I use to cause the menu to close up when a user clicks outside of the button?

I want similar features, ie; rotating and expanding text controlled by mouse events and drop downs.
I'm not concerned about the drop downs currently, but for all I can think of right now, I am trying to figure out the best way to complete this task, and the code (AS3) that would be needed.
I've come up with a few thoughts (forgive me as I'm only moderate at Flash- can code, remember most of it, understand it, but can't always come up with the solution off the top of my head)

I have 2 buttons that i made an up arrow and a down arrow. I would like them to move an image up or down on mouse click. Although i made the button rollover actions previously and i got the script below from researching online. Now I am not sure if i should even bother with it. I thought if i could get the actionscript to recognize the buttons and tell it what to move the (the ad) I could get them to work. But haven't figured out how to do that and if i have to make custom buttons for this. see what i have below thus far.

I'm new to AS3 and I am making a website and I want to animate a button (buttonA), after a certain button (buttonB) is clicked buttonA should move from underneath buttonB and should move to a certain location (it only moves vertically). The movement should slow down a bit when the button reaches it's destination to make the movement look smooth. When buttonA is pressed some other action should be done and buttonA should only be able to get pressed when it reached it's destination below buttonB. And lastly, when ButtonB is pressed when buttonA has reached it destination nothing should happen. And when some other button which is already on the screen (buttonC) is pressed buttonA should be returned to it's original position (after which buttonB can be pressed again to move buttonA)
The current way I am doing it is so: on frame 1 ButtonA is positioned underneath buttonB. Both buttons are on different layers. A new layer ("actions") has this code:

When I play it it goes well for the first time, but when I press buttonB afterwards it looks like it goes through all the frames after frame 1&2, then it returns to frame 1 and the position of buttonA is reset and buttonA starts moving to its destination again. I also get this in my output:

all the tutorials for movement in actionscript seem to use the onclipeven(on enter) as well as only refer to movie clips. so this is what i want to do in the simplest sense.RedButton is starts at position RedA. If you click it on position RedA, it moves to position B. If you click it on Position B, it moves to Position C. If you click on position C, it goes back to B.
I basically want a 7 buttons to move around using actionscript. They each have a their own "home" spot as well as 2 "shared" spots where the active button will sit. i tried a simple function similar to:

So theres obviously a huge mistake in my logic because it doesnt work at all, not the mention i dont get any movement, just kinda...teleporting buttons, which is not what i want.
