ActionScript 3.0 :: Draw Parabola - Using Given X And Maximum Height

May 10, 2010

I have another math question. I think this is fairly basic stuff but I'm so bad at math I can't wrap my head around it. What I would like to have is a formula that allows me to create an upwards parabola, using a given X and a maximum height. The maximum height is always the same as the positive X (so 3 if X = 3 or -3). The parabola must always end or begin at 0. Am I making sense at all?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Centered SWF With Minimum And Maximum Width/height?

Aug 6, 2010

I am trying to build my portfolio which is coming along fine.

I do however have a problem.. I want the site (SWF) to scale according to browser size.But, I want to implement a maximum and minimum width and height.

I dont want it to scale so that it is bigger than my stage size (1365px x 845px), and I dont want it to scale so that it can be smaller than for instance (800px x 600x). And I also want the SWF to be centered at all times.

If you need to see a working example you can see what I am trying to achieve on this site: [url]....Take a look at the slideshow when you enter the site, and try resizing your browser window. You'll notice that the pictures will shrink, but won't scale above their obvious 100% size. I tried looking at the page source, but I didnt understand much. Looks like they have used Actionscript for the resizing/aligning.

ActionScript 2.0 :: GetBounds() - Get A Movie Clips Coordinate Bounds And Use The Minimum And Maximum Values Of X And Y To Draw Rectangle Around The Object

Apr 11, 2007

I'm having a little difficulty getting to grips with the getBounds() Movie Clip function. I assumed the getbounds() method simply got the boundary coordinates for the movie Clip, that one could use to draw a rectangle. This is what I'm trying to do;I'm trying to get a movie clips coordinate bounds, and use the min and max values of x and y to draw rectangle around the object. Simple right? But in my case, I'm getting some unexpected results. I wonder does ther registration point of the object determine the coordinate values? Also are the coordinate values local to the clip instance or global to the stage?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Custom _xmouse Coordinates Using Parabola

Nov 7, 2006

i was trying to print out the readings for custom _xmouse coordinates as the mouse moves. I succeeded in manipulating xmouse coordinate readings with two points, but now i am trying to manipulate it through 4 points! I tried using a parabola calculation as the numbers get bigger and bigger as they get further from 0, x. I'm beginning to think that i'll have to add a different calculation after the mouse passes each point now, like an IF statement if _xmouse goes to 30, then start multiplying a different number, until it reaches 60 etc. Check out the image below, i'll post the swf if you want, i've tried lots of different transformations etc, nothing goes through my 4 custom points: 0, 30, 60, 90. I can make it go through two points, 0, and another number, but never more than 2.

Flash :: Rotate BitmapData When Using Draw Method. Width Height Bounds Clipping / Cropping?

Jan 29, 2010

I wrote a collision detection class that works off using BitmapData.hitTest. Basically, every update, the .draw method is called and then two BitmapData's are hitTest'ed against each other to see if there is a collision.It works pretty well, however if I start rotating the source MovieClip I use for the BitmapData, the transformations don't get registered in the draw method. So what I did was pass through a Matrix in the draw method. That works. But here's the actual issue. If I output the BitmapData to a Bitmap on the stage, I see that Bitmap is, in fact, rotating, but now it's exceeding the bounds (width and height) of the BitmapData. Which is cropping / clipping the image of the source MovieClip.

UPDATE: Basically, when the Bitmap clone of the MovieClip rotates outside the positive co-ordinate space, it doesn't get drawn. It rotates outside the bounds of the BitmapData set width and height. I can multiply the bounds by 2, and then center the bitmap inside the set bounds, but then the origin point is never fixed and the object is always being moved around. Works pretty well, but makes aligning the object to any specific point impossible.Here's my isolated test code. It requires you to have a MovieClip on the stage named "iTest". I used a fairly vertical arrow shape (higher than it is wide) so I could keep track of rotations visually accentuate the clipping problem:

var rotateTimer:Timer = new Timer(10);
function rotateObject_init():void
{

Flash :: Use A Parabola Formula In Firing An Arrow That Will Always Intercept A Given Point

May 11, 2011

First note: mathematically, I'm not that skilled at all. I played a game on iPhone a while back where you press a point, and an arrow fires from your castle which will always intersect the point you pressed. I wanted to make a similar game, thinking it would be an easy quick make; then I ran into the realization that the mathematics for this is actually beyond my skill level.

I'm assuming they're using a parabola formula or something which would determine the velocity and angle needed when the arrow is launched for the arrow to always intersect the clicked point. I only vaguely remember how parabolas work from school and have no chance of working out any formulas.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Integration - Using A Parabola To Generate Skewed Random Results?

Mar 21, 2007

I'm trying to write a function that'll take a set of results, assign a probability to each result, and then pick one result at random, according to its probability.I thought I'd calculate the area under sections of a basic parabolic function (y = x^2) to generate the skewed probabilities.

Because of the nature of this curve, the amount of skew is determined by the range of the parabola used, as x tends to zero, the gradient tends to zero, so using 0 - 0.001 would be only slightly skewed. As x tends to infinity, the gradient tends to inifinity, so using values 0 - 100 the probabilities would be heavily skewed.to recap then, my function would be passed a skew factor, essentially the upper limit of the parabolic graph to use. All I need do is divide the whole range into equal sections according to the number of values and determine the definite integral for each range of the parabola assigned to each of the possible values. Make sense? Good.

integrating y = x^2 gave me y = x^3 / 3

from this I developed the following code:

PHP Code:

vals = ["dog", "cat", "monkey", "horse", "marmotte", "hampster", "yetti", "ant", "mouse", "duck"];
skewfactor = 9;
trace(getProbabilities(vals, skewfactor));

[code]....

and it kinda worked. It produced a set of probabilities which looked like they fell in line with a simple parabola.My problem is that no matter what skew value (i.e. max range) I pass in, it produces exactly the same results and I'm not sure if my maths is wrong, my theory on the nature of the curve is wrong or if my code is wrong.

ActionScript 3.0 :: BitmapData Draw() Method - Draw The Bitmap On The Stage At Design Time?

Mar 18, 2009

I am using the draw() method of the BitmapData to encode a jpeg of part of the image. Now this should be easy enough given the object I want to draw to the bitmap is on the stage at design time so I know its location and dimetions exactly! Heres the code I have in place.

Code:
var myBitmapSource:BitmapData = new BitmapData ( street.width, street.height, false, 0x333333);
myBitmapSource.draw(street, null, null, null, new Rectangle( 96, 5, 571, 450 ), true );

I know for a FACT that no part of the street clip I am drawing out is in negative space, and it's registration is (0,0). However, it cuts off A lot of the top of my image. y=5 in the above rectangle is where I need the top to be, but it cuts the top off of the image... even if I change it to 0, it has no effect.

ActionScript 3.0 :: BitmapData.draw() Failing To Draw Entire MovieClip?

Dec 15, 2009

I'm trying to do some lean blitting for an object that rotates by rotating it once at startup and capturing a BitmapData snapshot of each 5 degrees. The problem I'm having is that the draw() method of the BitmapData object is only picking up pixels in the MovieClip that are below and to the right of the registration point. If I change the MC so that the registration point is in the top left corner, I sometimes get what looks like most of the pixels, but the entire object rotates into and out of the frame, since it's rotating around the corner and not the center.

Bind A Flex Component's Height To Height Of Browser Window?

Nov 10, 2009

I want to constrain the height of a flex component to the height of the browser viewport.

The component's children are populated from a database table using a repeater, and are basic checkboxes. How can I force the component that contains these to limit itself to the size of the viewport?

Flex :: Layout - Set Height Of Accordion To Height Of Tallest Child

Apr 5, 2010

By default the height of an Flex Accordion container is the height of the initially selected child. I'd like to be able to set the height to the tallest child so that no resizing or scrolling is necessary when other children are selected. I do not want to use the resizeToContent property. I want the size of the container to stay constant no matter what child is selected.

My current thought is to extend the accordion class setting the creation policy to "all" and then override the measure function to loop through all the children and find the tallest one and use that for the height. This seems a little kludgy though, so I'd like to know if there is a better approach. Ultimately my question is: is there a way to set the size of an accordion container such that the container never resizes and scoll bars are never necessary to display any of the children?

Flash :: Symbol's Height (in Code) Seem Different Than Its Height (in Design)

Jan 11, 2011

I have a bit of graphical content inside a symbol that I've created in Flash CS5. Let's call it FunGraphics_Art, it's set to export, and it extends MovieClip.When I edit the symbol in Flash and I hit control-A, the properties panel tells me that all of the content has a height of 72 pixels, positioned at 0,0.The content consists of a few (classic) textfields, and a couple of Checkbox components and a few bits of vector art.All the content is on a single frame, no layers.So far, so good. I export my art as a .svc and am able to use it all in code just fine. However I then add the following bit of code to my .as file..[code]Somehow, there's something strange going on that's causing Flash to think my exported symbol is about 75 pixels higher than it actually is. I've looked around for invisible "blank" textfields, but haven't found anything yet.
