ActionScript 3.0 :: Loading And Passing Images To Classes

Oct 21, 2010

I have a AS3 game with about 300 images to load.
Method A) Now what I do in .net is load images required in each class e.g., Player class has 50 images to do with player movement and Enemy Class has 50 images to do with enemy movement.
Method B) I have read in AS3 you usually load all the images in the game in 1 class and pass the array of images on to the relevant classes so player/enemy images are loaded in a load class and then pass on those images to the classes.
Which method is best as I prefer method A?

I am guessing I will need to save the String namein an outside file for the video class to grab. Once the video hasfinished playing I want to go back to the menu page.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Passing Variables From Down Classes

I'm trying to create a oop flash website, but I'm really struggling with some basic things. Example 1: We've got four classes

DocumentClass -> FormsClass -> Form1Class -> ListClass

Let's say someone clicks a next button in the FormClass. That dispatches an event "nextForm". Documentclass is listening for this event, and displays the next page. But it needs to read a value (selected radiobutton) from the ListClass. What would be the best way to get this variable to the documentclass?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Passing XML Info Between Classes?

Oct 19, 2010

I am creating an app in Flash Pro using AS3 for my wife to track our son's hockey progress. The app will have three sections: start, data entry, data retrieval.I have created the screens as separate classes to handle their individual functions. My data is stored in XML that I need to pass between these screens.I tried creating a separate class to handle my XML, but I am having trouble reading and writing to the new class. Is there a better way to handle passing this XML information around inside my application? Eventually I would like to have the app write to an external XML file then pull the new rewritten file back in. This code is in one of the .as files already, it's just not working yet.I added my files below (7 as and 1 fla Zipped) if you want to check them out.

Flash :: Passing Data Between Objects/classes?

Dec 27, 2010

So i a building a categorized menu of different foods. I have a class for "categories" (buttons) which essentially will return a string "salads", "drinks", etc. I now have another class "menuItems" for items within categories and this handles sizes such as "small", "med", "large", etc. My problem now is that when i return "salads", i want to invoke an array which contains all the elements of salads, send it to menuItems which will populate the menu. So far i have both the category objects and the menu object setup. I just cant seem to be able to send the data that the category object is returning and pass it to the menu object. Both of which are added to the stage as shown below:

If there was a way that i could say add all these classes to one class so that they can talk to each other that would be great but i dont know how to do this.

Flex :: MXML Views - Passing Dependencies Into Constructor Of Classes

Oct 6, 2009

I'm used to building applications using pure AS3. I always pass dependencies into the constructor of classes I make, but this method seems to not work out well for Flex MXML views. It seems like I should define setters on the MXML class, which map to attributes in the tag/class instantiation. But using this method I cannot specify which properties are required and in what order I expect them etc. What is the preferred method to give a Flex view it's dependencies?

ActionScript 2.0 :: YAY Action - Loading Images With XML Loader Resizes And Displays Images When Users Click On Nav

Dec 9, 2005

Explaination: MX 04' Pro Thumbnail Nav. loading images with XML Loader resizes and displays images when users click on Nav. reading XML Problem: Users click Thumbnail Nav. first image gets loaded and loader resizes to image. However the next choice by user on thumbnail click, the second image doesnt get resized in the loader. It goes beyond holder. Here is my code for Thumbnail and Loader:

[Code]....

Now the first image loads fine and the loader sizes to file from XML. However, when users click second choice from Thumbail the loader doesnt resize to new image size. It only gets resized on the first selction or if users click the next or prev. buttons then the images fade correctly but nothing fades back in. Now if they do hit next or prev and then hit a thumbnail option it loads and resizes.

Actionscript 3 :: Prohibit Users From Loading Swf Files By Flash Loader.load() And Only Allow Loading Images?

Apr 1, 2010

I want to have an AS3 app load images from url supplied by the user. But I don't want a malicious user to be able to load an SWF file in place of the image, such as with an altered extension "maliciousSwf.png". Well, not sure how big a security threat that is above and beyond the ability of the hacker to decompile swf, but I think that ideally such behavior should not be allowed.

So, is there any way to prevent this? When people allow users to load images in their Flash apps, do they somehow guard against loading of SWF? Or is this really absolutely no big deal?

Actionscript 3 :: Incompatible Classes When Loading SWF?

Apr 2, 2010

I have two ActionScript 3 projects, game(.swf) and minigame(.swf). At runtime the main game loads the minigame via Loader. I also have a shared library (SWC) of event classes, included by both, which minigame will need to dispatch and game will need to listen to.

First: Is this possible this way? Second: What will happen if I compile the minigame, then change the event classes so they're incompatible, then compile the main game. Will Flash crash when trying to load the minigame SWF? (I hope so)

Third: And what will happen if I change the event classes, but in a way that preserves interface-level compatibility?

ActionScript 3.0 :: File Size And Loading Classes?

Feb 6, 2010

i have several custom classes which all contain Sprites.does the fact that each as file imports flash.display.Sprite increase file size?i would assume when compiling that flash is smart enough to just import each package once but i just want to make sure.an over simplified example (obviously in this example the over all effect is 0 but i am starting to have more and more custom classes so i want to know)say i have a simple class that extends sprite to include an index property.

public class NewSprite extends Sprite {
public var index:int
}

now if in my code i would like to have "Sprite"s and "NewSprite"s for my own benefit of keeping track of what needs an index but does it add to file size to import flash.graphics.Sprite twice or would i be better off just importing NewSprite.also if i add variables to a custom class but dont give them a value does it take up extra space - for instance if the above NewSprite had 99999 indices instead of 1 - i am assuming if each index has a value the NewSprite is much bigger, but if i leave each index null, does it still increase file size?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Loading A Second SWF, Passing FlashVars

Jun 25, 2009

I needed to write a very small SWF that would load a second SWF, passing all FlashVars to it. In searching for how to do this, I found bits and pieces, but nothing complete. So, in case this is useful for someone else:

ActionScript Code:
public class MyPlayerLoader extends Sprite
{
/**

[Code].....

Basically, this packages up all passed in FlashVars into a URL and loads it. There is one FlashVars that isn't passed, and is identified by SWF_TO_LOAD_PROPERTY. If in the FlashVars, that identifies the SWF to load. If not present, DEFAULT_SWF_TO_LOAD is used instead.
