Can anyone translate this AS2 code to AS3? I tried myself but I am having a problem with the setProperty method. Code is pasted and here's the link to the source files.
I've been working hard to achieve a parallax panning effect like the one seen here url... Unfortunately the closest i have come is url...Mine is rather choppy and doesn't provide the easing that Mauricio has included in his.[code]
Is the setProperty method only applicable to remote shared objects and not to local shared objects? The following code works fine: Code: web_so.setProperty("web", "someURL"); trace(username_so.data.Name);
Where 'web_so' was earlier declared as a remote shared object. When the above line of code is parsed, the bbc website opens in the browser and the trace statement get's printed in the output cosole. However if I were to replace the web_so...code witht the following: Code: username_so.setProperty("web", "someURL"); trace(username_so.data.Name);
Where 'username_so' was earlier declared as a local shared object. The trace statements prints out fine, but the brower dosent fire up at all. Which makes me wonder if the 'setProperty' method is something unique to remote shared objects, but I dont see the API mentioning that.
I am adding "layer" objects to the stage with a depth value.
I have then created my own camera class. When I tell the camera to move to the right what Im actually doing is telling each layer object to move to the left.
The distance that the layer moved to the left is based on the value of its depth variable...
var fCameraDepth = 1; var fTan:Number = Math.tan( fCameraMovement / fCameraDepth ); oLayer.x += fTan * fLayerDepth
This works well and gives me a really nice parallax effect. The problem I'm having is that I want to be able to tell the camera to look at a movie clip on any layer but I'm having trouble figuring out how to convert the movie clips coordinates to the cameras depth.
Im trying something like this...
var fCameraDepth = 1; var fCameraPosition:Number = oCamera.x; // the layer will have a + or - x val compared to the camera so we
I was wondering if anybody could show me how to achieve the Parallax scrolling effect like seen on here :[code] I literally just need it to work with 2 layers, a foreground and background.
I saw a websitethere is a parallax effect, when we click on the bottom links it goes to specific location or the specific point where the internal page is located.Actually I want to integrate this effect in my portfolio, Is there any tutorial or script like this?
I just want to say that I am fairly experienced with AS2 because i'm used to visual design, but I am very new to as3.So I found a tutorial on a parallax effect and then tailored it to my needs. I have had previous websites where I loaded and unloaded swf's with AS3.But when I combine the scripts to load and unload external swf's with the parallax actionscript, My parallax mouse follow effect does not work. It is a lot to explain so I uploaded the .fla and all the files needed with a description of the problem. I'm really stumped here with what I am doing wrong.I did not include any script for adding the external swf's so you do not have to backtrack through my problems and you can show your way of doing it.could not include the movie player because of the file size so I included the actionscript file in the folder and where it is placed in the fla.
I want to create a parallax scrolling effect using 3 PNG images that are 950px x 335px. One image is the foreground, another is the background and the third is the "middle" image. What I want to do is automatically scroll each image horizontally at different speeds, but I can't figure out how to do that using AS3. All the parallax examples I've seen so far requires the user to scroll the background using their mouse or keyboard, and that's not what I want to do. I want it to automatically start scrolling when the user loads the page.Can this be done with AS3? If so, can someone give me a script or tell me where to find one?
I'm working on a charity project that needs a parallax. I followed some tutorial and got the parallax and page zoom out working. The problem is I'm not sure how to stop the parallax from moving when I click on the MC pages on the map. They are marked as Village1 , 2 and 3. The pages AS3 scripts are under parallax-level3 MC. Attached are the current working files. [URL]
I am using the panning image effect from the URL below:
[URL]
The problem i have is that I only want the image to start panning left and right at the point the mouse reaches the edge of the table. At the moment you get movement no matter where you are on the screen.
I would like to enhance this effect by having the image return to center after it is moused off of. Currently, it will just stay where you left off. It would be neat if it returned at the same speed as it pans. I would love to see if this can be done for a client. Here is the code from the tutorial:
I really like the text effect Pom used in the footer contest, and would like to use the same grid-type method of creating mc letters but with a different effect. i understand how to change the parameters and shapes of the letters, but can't seem to figure out which piece of code is purely for the explosion effect. basically, i want the letters but with the 'Repel' effect from[URL] here is Pom's AS:
[AS] cellSize=3; radius=10; damp=.85;
[code]....
and here is the .fla using the repel effect using pre-made mc:
I understand the Array Method: arrayname = new Array(); arrayname [0] = "Text" arrayame [1] = " Text2"
And have it randomly pick one via a clicked button or what have you, but how do I have these effect variables? We have randomly selected from one in the array, how do I make it so once it selects one of those, it effects one variable, and if it goes to another one effecting another variable + - or what have you, without using if statements?
first have a look at this: [URL] It loads "auto" coordinates from php file, and makes the "auto" move after timeinterval. It is needed tht it could load infinate coordinates, but i fail to do it. If u change setProperty(auto, _x, kord ) to setProperty(auto, _x, x2 ) , it works, but as u can see only with one coordinate.
When state is changed, we can define the new properties for the new state overidding the properties of the base state.
But, I had a doubt. What is the difference between using setProperty() and removeChild() in Flex ?
Take the following case. Suppose there are 2 Vbox inside the application container. When the state is changed by some event, I need only 1 VBox in the appln container.
(a) Should I set setProperty for that particular VBox of width and height to 0 ? or (b) Should I remove the VBox from the new state by using removeChild() property ?
I have read this a few times, however, I never really understood the alternative. Please help me understand.How would I, without SetProperty, change the _alpha of a movieclip defined by a variable.With setProperty I would define the variable(which obviously will be changing, therefore a variable is needed):var movieClip = "_root.someMovieClip_mc"setProperty(movieClip, _alpha , 50)
I'm trying to do something pretty simple: I am duplicating a movie clip and setting the _x and _y properties of the duplicate. The reason it is driving me up the wall is that the code works if I export for Flash Player 6, but not for anything later, and according to the sites I've read this code should work. I don't want to get into this project (which is big) and find out later that I can't export for such an old player.Here's the code:
Code: function createBalls(ballNum) { var newClipName:String = "ball" + ballNum;
i want to duplicate a movie clip b1 and create ball1 to manipulate them with setproperty, and the same for b2 but this one into ball2. when i execute this code it would only do it for b1 and not for b2.

I'm having some problems setting _x and _y positions of a movie clip attached (into a clip on a masked layer) using attachMovie. The code should position the clips icon1-8 on the y axis (100 pixels Ipart). The destination movie clip (the one with the actions) resides in a masked layer, I remember reading that there were some problems with masked layers in version 5. (i'm using flash MX). The movie clip is _root.openwindow.files
I can't seem to get setProperty to affect any change detectable by getProperty, or any other means.
* Can you please help me find and fix the problems in my code? Also, it would be great if you could provide a snippet of code to both read/write to the SO from the Flash swf client, and changes required in the FMS server-side code to receive events onSync from another FMS server (also sending to another FMS server.. I know it should be very similar in theory).
got stuck with this... I've 2 mc in timeline instance names are: form1 form2 in first frame I wrote the following code
[Code]...
this works ok but the question is... multiple targets, how could I do something like this: setProperty((form1; form2), _alpha, 50); although I know this doesn't work... how could I setProperty of more than one instance?
how can i set alpha property in flash mx without using the setproperty action. when i use setproperty action to change alpha value ,the graphic doesn't animate.
My stage is 640x500px. My map is 1163x500px. The idea is that you can scroll in the stage by positioning the mouse at either the right or left side. Then the map would scroll right/left. Only place I found the scrolling effect is with following parallax scrolling tutorial: URL...The scrolling function is exactly what I have been looking for (just the scroll, not the parallax effect or the links), but when I create my own file and run it in CS4, it doesnt work. So I attempted to create my own version.[code]Since nothing actually happens when I play the movie, Im assuming Im doing it completely wrong.
I need to translate this AS2 code into AS3 ASAP! how to translate a few lines from AS2 to AS3 [URL]I was supposed to make a flash 9.0 cs3 menu with buttons that stay down until another button is clicked.I've found an example of this on the net, one that is perfect in every way for what I need to have done.However, as always, there's a catch. The code on that site is written in AS2, which doesn't work for me because I'm using some functions which are incompatible with it (I suppose they're AS3 supported only, e.g. loaderComplete)
I am using the blitting technique that jeff from uses for creating tiles. I am trying to paint 2 layers of bitmapdata onto a bitmap. One the first layer is the background ( 1 image). and the second layer is the tiles. In that class below. the updateMap is the method that gets called in the loop to repaint the image.
