I'm working with a flash image slideshow and I'm having trouble getting it to read from my xml file for the captions, the same thing with the images. I've changed the paths on the as well as is there anything I'm missing, any other path I am supposed to change to read off of the correct XML file and image directory? Here's the link - [URL]

Does anyone have any info on creating a slideshow that loads external images? I only want to load about 10 and then for it to end on a final frame... just not sure how to do it.
View 3 RepliesI'm creating a simple flash navigation using some transparent .gifs. At present i import them then make them instances and use them internally in flash from there... But, is it possible to link the instance to an external gif file on the server so that the image can be change by simply changing the gif file/s instead of having to go back into flash??
I realise it would be easier to just update by importing the new images into flash but it's a client request and as they say 'the customer is always difficult'
I'm trying to get an image slideshow to work with some external data, but I'm kinda new with AS3. I'm used to use the AS2 loadVariables() function, but that no longer works. What's the AS3 version of this?

I have created a pie preloader(preloader.zip) which is working fine. Same preloader I am trying to incorporate in a xml based slideshow(slideshow.zip) to show image loading process but some how I got stuck. I am new to flash. Suggestions are welcome.
1. How to solve the problem of preloader2. Is it possible to integrate everything in a movie clip (including AS). I mean no AS on main time line but inside the movie clip. It would be much easier then to to create multiple slideshows by duplicating mc and changing the xml file.
i have a question about text in a slideshow. i know how to make a basic photo slideshow with external images. but now what i want to do is add 4-5 paragraphs of text next to each photo (with possible scrolling). the text will be different on each photo.

I have a media player that I am codging together, one that will play either videos or MP3s depending on the variables it is passed. The video player part works fine. The MP3 player controls are all actual physical MCs on the stage; each one has its own AS class file as part of the package, but there is also a lot of AS that is happening in the main FLA as well. Ok this is what I would like to do. My project I am working on has an app that will upload image files to a specific folder on my server what I would like to do is have it load all the files in that folder through flash without me having to manually add the names of the files into the coding if possible.
I can create an image slideshow but I have to put in each and every .jpg and such I would prefer not to do that as in the future there may be more then 5-10 images.
In addition I already have the app created that uploads files.
I am trying to create a "slideshow" in flash CS4 and I have set it to fade out one image is it fades in another (using alpha) for about 10 - 15 images.However, I want to add a "border" to my slideshow, that stays there throughout the entire process without it fading in and out along with the pictures.

There are some users that see white space (the stage) before thefirst image loads. Depending on the clients connection, etc this can take aslong as 2 or 3 sec.
I was thinking about placing a jpeg in the fla, and adding it to the stageas a symbol or graphic, so instead of white space (or a color other than white)the user sees an image on the page, and when the xml loader places the first image on the page, the user sees the image, and the slideshow, etc.
I have a flash CS3 slideshow that loads it's content from an external .xml file. If I export the HTML it plays fine, but if I move the HTML to the site root directory (just outside the directory with the .swf file), and let dreamweaver update the links the flash slideshow will not play. my site is at: [URL] the flash with the .xml is in [URL]

In my main.fla, I have a code which loads the other two files. I have made a photo slideshow following exactly the following page:[URL]..It works very fine in my local computer. But, after I uploaded the files (SWF, XML, JPGs) to server it does not work well. Some photos are loaded, some not. There is no problem in path settings in XML. All images are in the same folder. Moreover, the photos are not same which loads sometimes, sometimes not. For example, I can see that photo no. 1, 3, 5, 9 are loaded and rest are not loaded. Again, if I visit the page/slideshow after some times, photo no. 1, 4, 6, 8 are loaded, rest not.
Is there any way to force the SWF to load all the images one by one and not to skip an image.
Even, if I visit the tutorial page [URL].._slideshow.htm I can see that the example SWF file given at the starting of the tutorial is doing the same behavior as that of mine. For example, right now I can see that the slideshow in this page is stopped at the image "Boston" (image no. 8/10) and it skipped the image "Dome" (image no. 6/10). Sometimes, it will stop at another image and may be, skip another image.
I am using Flex Builder 3, working on a PC. Everything was working as expected throughout my first day of code updates, but on day 2 Flex started behaving badly.The problem started when I removed a component, and then got an error that it couldn't find the specified component in some accompanying AS3 code. No problem, I updated the reference so it wouldn't look for the old missing component (a form item). When I compiled the project in debugger to check my work, it failed when it got to that part, and gave an error that it couldn't find the component I'd removed. However, my code had fixed the problem, and the error was referencing a line of code that wasn't there any more. I proceeded to change the file around greatly, and even resorted to creating a new file, changing the name of it, and then recompiling it. I did a clean compile as well, rebooted my machine, restarted Flex, but every time it gives an error referencing the bit of code that isn't even there any more. It's as if it's loading a cached project each time (both in debugger and run mode).
For reference, here's the error I'm getting: ReferenceError: Error #1069: Property Winter Cost not found on views.PopupUsage and there is no default value.Well, the file "PopupUsage.mxml" doesn't even exist any more and is not referenced in my project at all, but it's still being referenced by Flex when I compile the files.What can I do to make Flex move on and look at my code?
I am trying to make a image slideshow for my companies new website. I used the Flash Image Viewer plugin from Dreamweaver, but it doesn't contain the transitional effect desired.
Every tutorial I find talks about advancing the images through an interactive control, I just want the images to change by themselves and do a fade transitional effect between images. Can anyone please point me to a tutorial that has this w/o the intractive buttons? I have been looking on the internet for hours and can only find tutorials / example w/ the intractve controls.
I have used this slideshow for few projects and all I've done in the past is import new images (about 100k) and publish. The image are bit map of type (png) not big about 100k size.
Without saving the file I do a "test movie". Instead of doing the slideshow it displays the first image but doesn't loop through the rest.
I'm at a bit at a lost here. The path to the image in bitmap properties on the origanal file in imported is relative but when I select a new image its full path.
I'm fairly new to ActionScript 3.0 so forgive me if this question is easy, but I'm having issues with my portfolio slideshow. I have a few thumbnails and when you click on one the image slides in from the right. That part is fine. What I really want is for the user to click on a different random thumbnail and have the current image slide out as the new image slides in. My code so far:

Ive just completed the Kirupa XML Slideshow today and have it all working well. But i cant figure out how to fade out the previous image as the next image fades in.

basically i was trying to make a program execute on the web, but it needs to load in pictures and since i didnt want to make the file size massive i converted where the images would show into a movie clip and used the loadMovie(pathname) procedure (im using AS2) to link the files, it works obviously when i test run it. in the pathname section i have "images/pic1.jpg" and so on for the different pictures as a tutorial i followed lead me to believe that it would find the pathname the program is running from and add the suffix images/pic.... etc to find the picture.
the problem is when i run it on the web its still trying to find the files on my computer, even though there is no part of the code that tells it to look in my documents/folders etc. even when i tried to link the file exactly, so put in oadMovieMy question is why is it still trying to find my local document folders instead of looking at its own run source on the internet. is there a way of absolutely linking it to the images i have now on the internet instead?
So I'm not AS2 pro, but I made a slideshow that loads about 15 different SWFs as each slide. Each SWF has a preloader and a "container" blank movie clip at the end which loads the next SWF. On the last SWF I have it reload the first SWF in the root "container". Now I'm not sure if this is the best way of doing this, but to me it sounds like it stacks a bunch of loaded SWFs on top of each other. Will doing something like this effect performance?
