Professional :: Flash Debugger Doesn't Stop On Breakpoints?
Jun 11, 2009
I don't know why but i've got fla files that I can't debug.
I'm able to launch debugger and the swf file is correctly run when I do it, but if for instance I add a trace in my code and add a breakpoint on it, it will appear in the output but the debugger doesn't stop on the breakpoint.
It's a pretty big project that uses a quite numbers of external swc libraries, home produced for the most, and I can't figure where could this bug come from. All the more if I create a simple fla file with a simple document class attached to it the debugger works perfectly.
So if anyone already encountered the problem or got an idea over any reason that could make the debugger to not stop on breakpoint,

I'm trying to debug my as3 game, but no way, the debugger starts (with the different debug panels) but doesn't stop at any of the breakpoints so i created an empty as3 file (.fla) and put some simple code:
[Code]...
I put a breakpoint at line 2when i press Ctrl-Shift-Enter Or Debug>Debug Movie, it traces "Hello" 2 times without stopping when i right click on the new flash player window that opens, it shows DEBUG on the menu (not grayed), and i think that it means it's the flash player debug version that is running I'm running on Vista and I tried reinstalling Flash without success, but i've got another PC with windows XP and it works well on it,
Are there any restrictions on Vista or maybe services that should be started, or anything that should be activated / deactivated?

I was currently working on a flex application with debugging set to Firefox 6. I set a breakpoint and was checking some variables... next thing I know the browser says "flash player crashed." How do I set it up so breakpoints work for an extended period of time?

When my animations are playing in the flashplayer and you rightclick and uncheck the play command only the animations in the main timeline stop playing. All the child animations continue to play. How do I make it so they all will stop playing when play is unchecked?
Is there a event listener that monitors if the movie has been stopped?

How do you stop the flash debugger if the code is running an infinite loop, or very very slowly?
I put too many trace() statements in, and it is taking forever. I know I can ctrl+alt+delete and stop flash CS5, but is there an easier way?

I seem to remember that to debug in 8 you have the file open you wanted to play with and then went to "debug" then the UI would change to Debug mode and a swf would popup.
I'm in cs4 and trying to debug a simple 3 line trace statement and when I hit "debug" it changes to "debug mode" and I can move through breakpoints and see variables and stuff. However, it doesn't open a swf (so I can actually see the actual FILE) until the END of the program has run.
I assume it is supposed to open the SWF as soon as I hit "debug"

I am using Windows 7 Professional and Flash CS4. I installed the flash player debugger, now I can't get rid of it. It slowed Flash down to a crawl. I ran the uninstall_flash_player found on this site. No effect. Flash is still really slow and still shows a ton of information in the output screen when I compile.

I just finished porting my AIR application to Flash.It works perfectly fine when I debug it via Flash Builder or when I load the enclosing HTML file in a browser that uses a debugging enabled version of Flash. However, it stops working when I load it a non-debug version of Flash. The "failure" seems to occur when the app tries to send a SOAP message request to our API server. That whole SOAP layer was generated using Flash Builder's Web Services class generation tools.
According to [URL], getStackTrace() is known to cause problems, so I disabled my calls to it but the problem still occurrs.

I have been following Doug WInnie's tutorials on flash, and am up to ep17: http:[url]....He briefly mentions these functions at the end, but doesn't go into any detail: Add event listener and callback function for roll over of the
ballmyBall.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER, ballOver);function ballOver(e:MouseEvent)myBall.gotoAndStop('glow');}[code]...
When I tried doing this, I labelled one frame within the myBall movie clip 'normal' and the next one 'glow' and I added a filter glow to the ball on the glow frame.When I play it back, and mouse over the ball it flickers really quickly between glowing and not glowing, and when I mouse out it returns to normal and stops, but I thought it should stop on the glow frame as well.

I am using the Flex Builder 3 debugger almost every day and it's starting to be a real pain that the 'Variables' tab in the 'Flex Debugging' view doesn't show local variables, only 'this' is displayed.
Also I can not add Watch Expressions for local variables.
Am I forgetting something here or is the debugger just very limited?

I have my flash set to log any errors to the flashlog.txt that's found in the macromedia fileThe above is all working fine.But even though it logs my errors it still throws up the flash debug popups.I don't want my users to see these pop ups.Instead I only wish to be able view the flashlog.txt to see what errors have occurred over time.Is their away of doing this?Are their any other variables to be added to the mm.cfg?Anything else I can do other than...ErrorReportingEnable=1TraceOutputFileEnable=1

I'm just about to uninstall and reinstall at this point but I'm getting my install all screwed up trying to update Flash Pro CS5.5 to use Flash Player 11. I had it fine using the MXP provided in this adobe blog. Though that's 11.0 not 11.1. It did work however.
I downloaded the latest Flash Player / Debugger .exe and the latest SWC for 11.1 and now Stage3D is no longer being seen. Clearly I screwed something up. I uninstalled and reinstalled the MXP after deleting the FP11 XML and FP11 directory but it's not working anymore.
Is there a clear cut simple way to explain how to overlay the latest Flash Player for FPCS5.5? I used the AIR overlay instructions for 2.6 - 3.1 and it worked every time. Now I just need Flash Player overlay instructions. I'm very interested to start trying to Starling framework with Stage3D. I select FP11 to export and it tells me it can't find Stage3D.

I can't get the breakpoints to work in flash CS4. here is what I do: In the actions panel I have a few trace statements and then breakpoints. trace("a"); trace("b"); trace("A"); now if I put break point on a or b or A or all 3 I still get all the trace statements working, so my actionscript isn't stopping at the breakpoint. Do you have to do something to enable breakpoints? I switched my workplace to debug made and then compile movie, it still doesn't work.

I'm trying to debug using breakpoints in flash cs5, it appears that the program is simply forgetting I chose to debug and does what the program is supposed to do regardless. Here's the code inside the ActionScript File, I'll put * next to the places I've tried adding breakpoints to but the code just prints the numbes 0-9 without stopping and without showing anything in any debugging windows. I've never gotten debugging to work fyi, but I have run into a brick wall and I need to figure out why it's not working:
ActionScript Code:
package {
import flash.display.*;
import flash.text.*;
[code]....
Here's the text in the Output window. This is the only text anywhere that prints as far as I can tell, I've tried opening all the windows to see if anything changes but nothing does.Attempting to launch and connect to Player using URL *Path*DebugExample.swf
[SWF] *Path*DebugExample.swf - 2084 bytes after decompression
[UnloadSWF] *Path*DebugExample.swf Debug session terminated.

I have a contact form for which I have a tween. That contact form consists of two keyframes, first the form, I tried putting the code stop(); in the first keyframe but it didn't stop. I then changed stop(); to _root.stop();, which didn't work either. I have to stop it because otherwise users would see a thank you note before they even enter their details. What can I do? Converting to movieclip didn't work either, besides it puts a funny character when I press AltGr

I'm having difficulty debugging an ActionScript 3.0 project.When set to ActionScript 2.0, I'm able to debug just fine, but I'd like to use some 3.0 functionality. However, when choosing Debug > Debug Movie, the debugger launches (or at least the empty AS 3.0 debugger panels are displayed), but I receive the message "Debugger launch failed. Debug session will terminate.". Click OK and the debugger closes.

I just downloaded the Release and Debugger updates for the Mac CS5 Flash. However, the zip files only contained the Mac projector. Wouldn't I need to update the Windows EXE projectors as well? When I publish dual platform projectors I would like both to be up to date. How do I update the Windows EXE projectors on my CS5 Flash installation on my Mac?

Im attempting to make a preloader. I am very new to action script so this is what i have.
Code:
ifFrameLoaded ( "UC" ) {
gotoAndPlay ( "home" );
}
as simple as it gets, right? Wrong, the preloader works however is get this error 1087: Syntax error: extra characters found after end of program. The preloader it self works it plays and when the movie is loaded it begins the movie, however the movie doesnt stop at any of my stop commands and keeps looping through itself over and over again till i exit the window.

I have some bombs like this :
var sjunkBomb:Array = new Array;
for (var i:int = 0; i < sjunkBombMaxAntal; i++) {
var bomb = new sjunkbomb;[code]....
Each movieclip sjunkBomb contains an animated movieclip. When the bombs reach the bottom I want to stop the inside animation.I guess it's better to stop them so they affect the rest of the game if there are a lot of bombs. I know how to hide them with sjunkBomb[x] .visible = false; but if I want to stop them? sjunkBomb[x].stop(); doesn't work!?

Why is there no 'update' available to take the Flash Pro standalone and debuggers to FP11? There don't seem to be any Adobe authored instructions on doing it manually and I can't find an update. Have just upgraded from Flash Pro CS5 to CS5.5 on WIndows, it's telling me my product is now up-to-date, but the installed players are still on 10.

When I work on my Air Project, I used stop(); to stay in a frame(which is my menu), I built the .air for testing purposes and the frames keep looping, as in, it plays all the frames, and it won't stop as it's instructed to. I'm building my Application in Flash CS5, not Flex.

i have a Flash CS 5.5 fla with a basic timeline animation. at the very last frame i put a keyframe with the only code being
stop();
nevertheless this movieclip doesnt stop at the end but loops infinitely.
the movie is exported as an SWC which is then loaded into another flash movie. however this does not call any functions in the movie nor does it interact with it, other than embedding it.
i have already tested this with the debug version of flashplayer to see if there are any exceptions, but no errors occur.

Ever since upgrading to Flash CS5 I've been having a problem with setting breakpoints in the external AS classes. Usually what I do (what I've done in the past) is to debug the movie and set any breakpoints in the class files using the debugger window before hitting the continue button. This has always worked in the past, but now I am having problems it it. It typically works once or twice, but eventually, I can no longer set any breakpoints until I close and re-open Flash. I know that they have added an XML file for the breakpoints, so I located that and opened it to see what was in there. It had a ton of breakpoints that were no longer valid, so I cleared it out and set just the one I wanted and restarted Flash. Again, it worked for a while and then stopped.
I then check the AsBreakpoints.xml file again and this time it had only the one that I had put in there previously and did not have any of the ones that I was trying to set in the debugger. So either it isn't reading this file or the file doesn't do what I thought it did...either way, it still isn't working right.

I am trying to debug the Flex application. I am able to set breakpoints in mxml file, and application breaks on those breakpoints. But when I set breakpoint in as files, I don't see the breakpoint marker, though in breakpoints window I am shown the line no. And when I start my debugging session, the application does not break at that point.
