Jul 23, 2009I'm working on a project for college and am having a spot of trouble. I'm trying to create a handy application for a football accumulator but can't work out how to use two different attributes to display the relevant information.
The idea is to present the big four clubs, plus the team they're playing, in the correct order - ie Home Draw Away. I've managed to get the first game displayed but if I change the relevant child node to display another game, I can't get the Home Draw Away sequence or only display one of the big four games.
I've added two attributes to the XML - big_four="1" or big_four="0" - for the event and hda="H" (ie for home) for the particpants in the game.

However, I've found it a little annoying that when the image is loaded, sometimes you can see the image in it's original size for a fraction of a second before it's resized to fit the loader. Is there any way to avoid this -- such as the loader only being visible after the image is resized?

This made me wonder... is it possible to build and distribute an AIR application without giving any money to Adobe (without violating any licenses, of course)? Are any of these tools free? Are any open-source?
Flex :: Running External Tools In Eclipse On Mac OS X?
Jun 16, 2010I'm using Flash Builder 4 on a mac. I've created a JSFL file for building a few fla's and then testing my main SWF file. I'm trying to run this JSFL file as an external tool from Flash Builder 4 but when I select Adobe Flash CS4.app as the file to run the JSFL Eclipse warns "External tool location specified is not a file."
I have Parallels installed and if I point at a .exe file this warning goes away. Is this a bug? Why can't I use a .app as an external tool in Eclipse?

Jun 21, 2009I'm developing a Flex front end client for a Java server application and I have a set of model classes that represent objects in my business logic and should have the same properties and exhibit the same behaviour throughout all layers. These objects
-Have form validation logic for user input
-Are displayed in various forms (lists, detail views ...) throughout the UI
-Are retrieved from and sent to the server using XML or AMF
-Are validated again on the server
-Are stored in a RDBM with tables and fields corresponding to the classes and fields
This is a very common application structure, I guess. I'm already using:
ORM for the Java backend (Eclipse persistence package)
Automatic mapping from XML to Action Script, using XML schema and the classes in mx.rpc.xml, as described here.
Now, what I'd really like to do is define the objects once (I already have them in XSD) and have tools set up class stubs for the whole chain. What can I use?

Jan 11, 2010I am looking for recommendations for tools for automated testing of a web application with some flex components.To provide some background we have a web application that was entirely developed in AJAX+HTML and we were somewhat successful in using Selenium for testing that application end to end. We recently added some flex components into the mix and it got complicated. We tried using Selenium Flex but we are disappointed with what it can do. So now we are looking for some alternatives. Ideally the tool would be able to drive both the web and the flex parts simultaneously, but we can also settle for just testing the flex components on their own. We prefer open source but good commercial tool is also an option.

Dec 21, 2009When I first downloaded Flash CS3 Professional, I was able to enter an exceedingly useful debug mode by compiling using ctrl+shift+enter instead of ctrl+enter. I could toggle break points, step in, step over and view values stored in variables at a whim.
I must have accidentally toggled some option somewhere, because this interface no longer shows up. Instead, the only extra interface I get is the output menu with the following text "Attemping to launch and connect to Player using URL <file path> [SWF] <file path> - 71984 bytes after decompression" and while the swf does halt if the as3 code reaches a break point, it doesn't tell me which break point nor give me any options to progress the flow (not even through the pull down menu I have to utilize in order to end the so called debug session).

Apr 17, 2011I'm working with Flashpunk to make games using Flex and FlashDevelop (highly recommended, amazing lib and IDE). Since performance varies so much from system to system, I want to find where slowdowns are occurring and only fix those bits. Flashdevelop has a built in tool called Profiler, but it only shows the number of objects and the memory they are using, not the execution time. Grant Skinner wrote a great tool called PerformanceTest, but it seems suited to writing very specific optimization comparisons, not automatically profiling your code.
What I'm trying to find is a tool that will automatically analyze the program while it's running and tell me which functions are taking the longest to execute. I've heard that CS5 has this built in, but I'm wondering if there are any alternatives.
Flash :: Debug An Inner Swf That's Loaded From A Non-debug Outer Swf?
Apr 4, 2009I have a swf that I need to attach the flex builder debugger to. I have full access to the source code, and can make a debug build of this swf.
However, this swf is being loaded by a non-debug build of another swf which I don't have source code to, and can't make a debug build with.
I've tried mocking this up with two very simple swfs, and while it works fine when both are debug builds, when the outer swf is a non-debug build, while I can get the debugger to connect, I don't get trace messages, breakpoints don't work, and it seems to lock up the flash app.

Mar 19, 2010I have a Rect object that I'd like to create and set its properties only once. After that, I want to just modify its properties since it already exists. This is my general idea

but can't get the desired effect. Everytime this code block runs, and depending on which version I've used, it either gives me a "can't access null object" error or the if statement always evaluates to true and creates a new Rect object and I get the "creating" Alert. What's the right way of creating that Rect but only if doesn't exist?

Oct 26, 2010I have a Flex 4 application which connects to ASP.NET webservice based on FluorineFx. It is authenticated by cookies via RemoteObject.setCreadentials()
Both applications connect to FMS server and talks to each other via RTMFP direct connection (P2P).
I want to debug both instances of this application in Firefox and Internet Explorer at one time by single click (F11).
Now I can debug only in one browser by running Debug in Flash Builder 4. I have created double browser runner with bat file registered as default browser in Preferences > General > Web browser that looks like this:

But this connects the debugger only to firstly run instance of the application in Internet Explorer.
