Flex :: Mouseevent - Track Mouse Position Repeatedly In Application?

I have a container Canvas named "cnvList" which contains another component horizontal list "hlist". When i hover the mouse over "cnvList", it should display the current mouse position relative to the container cnvList. I have used cnvList.contentMouseX for this. But it should repeatedly track the mouse position repeatedly even when the mouse is not movedk. Can anyone suggest me with code how it can be done?

I've been trying to track down memory leaks in our application, and keep finding myself back looking at Spark components as the culprit.
Many classes in Spark use RichEditableText for displaying their text properties (ComboBox,TextInput).RichEditableText has a local textContainerManager property, and frequently calls compose() on this.Here's the relevant abridged extract from TextContainerManager

Line 1242 is the crucial line here, as it gives the static dictionary a reference to our component.(Note - I've checked this with the debugger to confirm which branch of the ternary gets executed.) This would prevent the instance from ever being garbage collected.
Eg: Static dictionary has a value with a reference to the instance -- instance cannot be GC'd.In turn, this would prevent any other instances which have a reference to the instance of TextContainerManager from being GC'd also.While this theory certainly matches what I'm seeing in our app, I can't beleive that there really is a memory leak in such a low-level spark component.

I have a MOUSE_DOWN handler that creates a CLICK event listener on a child object. Naturally, as soon as you release the mouse button, if you happen to be over the child object, the CLICK event fires.I was disappointed to discover that event.stopImmediatePropagation doesn't interrupt the CLICK event from registering the MOUSE_DOWN as part of its detection cycle. It makes sense that it doesn't but still... disappointing.A MouseEvent.CLICK consists of detecting a MOUSE_DOWN on the object and then if it's followed by a MOUSE_UP without leaving the object, he event fires. I had hoped that by cancelling the MOUSE_DOWN event, it would clear that out of the CLICK buffer, but no such potatoes, alas.This could all be handled with a flag and a couple more MOUSE_UP and MOUSE_DOWN handlers, but dang, smacks of effort

i'm trying to make a scrollable box, when a mouse enters and STAYS on "wrapper"'s area, "pubsBox" moves 10 pixels to the left.

My problem is that I'm not sure how to make the MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER work, to recognize that the mouse is still ON the area and so pubsBox should continue to move 10 pixels to the left every second. I understand that i have to use a Timer, but what I'm concerned about is the fact that I can't get Flex to recognize that the mouse is still OVER "wrapper" and continue firing the event.

I'd like to know what is the difference between MouseEvent.CLICK & MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN. Because when i use MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN for a button to set full-screen view its doesn't work, instead of this MouseEvent.CLICK works. So what was the reason.

I have a flash app loaded in an iframe. User mouses down in flash and goes outside of stage. When user goes outside of stage, is there a way to release the mouse capture from flash so that parent receives further mouse events and not the flash app?
In Firefox and Chrome, parent doesn't receive events until the user mouses up
In IE, parent receives event when the user goes outside of stage.

I am trying to create a variable in Actionscript 2 that will record the position in the timeline, so Flash knows the user's last position on the timeline.The first line in the mc is: var portfoliostate;On frame 20 of the timeline, I have the following actionscript: portfoliostate = "1_ portfolio";When a button is clicked, I want Flash to recognise if the user has been on frame 20 or not. I have a simple Flex (Flash Builder) application which pops up a new window when a user clicks on a map. The user can make subsequent clicks on the map to have additional pop up windows appear, each of which currently pop up on top of the initial/previous pop up window(s) (i.e. at the same X and Y position). I want to modify the application in such a way that each new pop up window will be rendered slightly offset from the previous pop up window. A coworker has suggested I try to find a way to leverage existing window cascading functionality in Flex, but so far I've not found anything which can manage this for you. Is there such a solution cooked into Flex already, or should I roll my own by calculating the new pop up window's X and Y position based on the last pop up window's X and Y position?

[code]When I hover the upper (red) part of the List (I would like to have the List scroll downward, the higher the mouse position is, the faster it should scroll). Similarly, If the mouse hovers over the bottom (red) part, the List scrolls upwards, and the lower the mouse is hovered, the faster the list would scroll. The current code does work - Though, the trace outs make it obvious that:this.layout.verticalScrollPosition += (mouseY - 220)*0.5.or this.layout.verticalScrollPosition += (mouseY -86)*0.5;are giving jumping effects, is there a way to make these values change more linearly or smoother? I created an AnimateProperty, but that works well only if I would like to scroll to a selectedIndex, In this case, I would like the scroller to keep scrolling linearly as the mouse is hovered to a particular red area, and increase in speed when I scroll to either extremity.The Objective: While the mouse is over the Bottom (red part )of the List, the verticalScrollPosition scrolls faster as it gets farther than the center of the ticket list... yet there is jumping effect going on, I suppose due to the EnterFrame. the Same with Upper Part... the higher the cursor is, the faster the List should scroll.I feel this is a common problem to Flash CSx developers.

I'm getting an unusual behavior that I can't seem to get to the bottom of. When I run this, if I move in the swf area it traces normally on mouse move. To be expected.
But it's tracing for the move event when I click anywhere on screen. If I click and drag, it traces as if I were moving in the swf area of the browser.
Here's the code. I've simplified to it's barebones. Just put this in in an empty AS3 project in Flex called "Engine" - sans quotes obviously.

In summary, I have an image scroller that loads a series of thumbnails defined in an XML file. All of the image load and begin scrolling. When I rollover the scroller, the scrolling stops then resumes again when I roll out.My problem: In addition to a mouseover pausing the scroller, I would like to be able to load text from another XML node based on which thumbnail the mouse is currently over.My question: How do I keep track of which thumbnail the mouse is over? Do I need to create an additional array to keep track of the thumbs or is there a simpler way to do this?

a textfield which acts like a button and when you press and hold down the mouse and move up or right the value increases and when you move down or left value decreases.
how to do this the most efficiently... on a mouse_down how would I track where the mouse is moving and how much it has moved in what direction so i can ajust the value in the textfield?

I have an Application displaying a spark.List. Every item of my list must be visible (no vertical scroll).
I need my Application to be scrollable in a web browser, so I've add a Scroller containing all my components. When the browser window is too small to contain all my application, scrollBar appears.
My application looks like that :

When I scroll with my mouse cursor outside of the List, everythink works fine. When I scroll with my mouse cursor over the List, nothing happends.
It looks like the mousewheel event is stopped by the List, even if the List does not have a scrollbar.

I always come here and scour the tutorials and forums for help when I need it- but this is the first time I've not been able to find what I need or in the form that I want - anywhere it seems! The site that I am working on consists of one main element, from which the user can open frames containing information. As you can imagine this is pretty one dimensional- so I'm looking to add some depth to this site. Now the point- I really enjoy the effect demonstrated on the website for Pretty Lights music.
The effect I'm referring to is having background elements slightly follow the mouse - and they track in different strengths (creating a nice feeling of depth). I don't plan on my own being as complex- the idea I had was simply having some "dust" looking specks in front of and behind my main content, and having it all track slightly with the mouse as the user navigates the site.

I have an Input Text area that users can edit and then submit. I need to be able to show, on screen, the cursor's current position as they type. I don't need to know where the mouse is but all work-arounds I've found so far can only tell me the mouse position. The font for the text is 'courier' or 'courier new' and the Input Text area is scrollable.

I know we can track when the mouse has left the stage area in AS3.
But, can it reset a button that would have stayed in its "on" state?
My swf will be embedded in a web page, there are 24 buttons all around its border, and as soon as the mouse leaves the stage, they stay "on", so I want to reset them to the initial state.

I am trying to track mouse location on the stage in a swf file with Action script. I found properties that appear to have x and y location, stageX and stageY as well as localX and localY. But I am getting compiler errors to the effect of attempt to access possibly undefined property: as follows: 1119: Access of possibly undefined property stageX through a reference with static type Class.

I was wondering if there was a way using actionscript to set a larger target area for the mouse_over even, i.e. if the mouse is not necessarily over an object, but is maybe 20 px away from it could i trigger a mouse_over event?My other idea would be to create a movie clip that follows the mouse everywhere but to be honest Im not too sure about this. I don't know how to track the coordinates of the mouse.

I have 2 overlapping movieclips on the stage. Both are instances of the same movieclip, but with different names. One bigger then the other, due to a magnifying effect. (I have tried to out-rule that code by the way, so its not that). The intention is to make both movieclips play when the mouse is over the stage and then stop as the mouse leaves the area. Seems simple and I have done that alot of times with other animations.

I've got an image gallery, that when the the image is clicked, it opens 2 images side by side like a magazine. Once the 2 images are loaded and visible, it makes visible 2 movieclips on each side to let you go to either the previous/next 2 images. Here's my code, I made bold the code that specifically relates to my problem. What I'm trying to do is when the button is clicked it either increases or decreases the imgCount by 2, and reloads the new images, but since the function I'm trying to initiate is triggered by a mouse event I don't know how to trigger it when the other function is triggered.
