ActionScript 1/2 :: Possible To Determine If A Program Is Installed On The PC Running The Flash?
May 2, 2011
I use Flash to develop a movie that runs when a user installs a new version of my companies software, and allows the user to access the user documentation and software installations at the click of a button. I use ActionScript to control the flow of the movie based on radio buttons that the user selects so that they are only provided with information relevant to them.I have been asked if Flash can determine whether a program is installed on the user's computer which can then be used to determine the flow of the movie.

Ever since I installed Flash CS4 on my computer, it runs fine for a while before becoming really slow to respond and a pain to use, so I have gone back to using Flash 8 which runs fine. Is this a problem with my computer or the program?

Is there any way to disable a computer's screensaver when a flash program is running?
It's for a program that I run locally (converted .swf to .exe).
The program is also used on other computers so changing stuff in the registry or something like that isn't really what I'm looking for.
I tryed changing mouseX but it's read-only..

I have found little to no flash to C++ documentation, let alone Flash to C++ over the internet. What I want to do: -Have flash send a string (or number) from a website to a server running a C++ program -The C++ program will receive the data and do something with it -After that, the C++ program would send back a response -Flash would then accept the response My goal is to make a simple MMO, but I can't start it without a server program to handle the players. I don't need a super-complicated example, just something simple, kinda secure and coded in AS3 and C++.

I'm writing a card game in ActionScript 3. Each card is represented by an instance of a class extending movieclip exported from Flash CS4 that contains the card graphics and a flip animation. When I want to flip a card I call gotoAndPlay on this movieclip.When the frame rate slows down all animations take longer to finish. It seems Flash will by default animate movieclips in a way that makes sure all frames in the clip will be drawn. Therefor, when the program frame rate goes below the frame rate of the clip, the animation will be played at a slower pace.I would like to have an animation always play at the same speed and as a consequence always be shown on the screen for the same amount of time. If the frame rate is too slow to show all frames, frames are dropped. Is is possible to tell Flash to animate in this way?

Determine, whether a defined program is running (for example firefox.exe) If its running, then get the current dimensions of its window - i want to make a screenshot of the window, so i'd need other parameters too i guess: Is it minimized? is it behind some other window?
Is this possible to accomplish in AIR? Im using the latest version (2.6)

I have this code:
ActionScript Code:
for (var j:int = 0; j < 20; j++){
if (values==j){
var "ingredient"+j:"Ingredient"+j = new "Ingredient"+j();
[Code].....
it doesn't work for what are probably obvious reasons but I show it to give you an idea of what I'm trying to do which is change the name of the variables while the program is running.

This may sound like a strange request, but I need to be able to determine:
1. What browser domain the current swf is executing in (that is, the page that hosts the swf is displayed in a browser, what is the domain of the page)?
2. What server domain the SWF was loaded from (ie, what the URL domain was for the SWF)?
I believe both of these I can get via javascript and ugly workarounds and pass them in, but what I need is actually to get these values (at least #2) from inside the SWF without relying on the javascript in the hosting page.
Specifically, what I'm trying to determine is if the SWF is executing in a page from the same domain as it itself was hosted/loaded from. I want to fork on this test and create different behavior for a SWF if it's "hot-linked" (that is, loaded onto a page on a different domain from where I host it).
I've looked into flash.system.SecurityDomain and ApplicationDomain... both these have properties called 'currentDomain' which would seem to be the value i'm looking for (for #2), however this object is a static variable that I can't seem to get any information out of or transform into any kind of useful string that I can look at it's value and test with it.The only info I've found on either of those two classes all relates to passing them to LoaderContext and such, when you are loading external resources.I do not want to load anything, I just want to determine how and where the SWF is executing.

I only started coding Actionscript about two weeks ago and I really need help on this, I am seriously considering just coding an if statement for each value if I can't figure this out. Sorry if my code is terrible formatted, I am self taught using Adobe Help.This is what I need help on.I have a program installed on a game server (CoD4) that outputs the server information including player(s) info and would like to be able to make it so that there is a flash document on the website displaying the information for each player. I wanted the program to build the information automatically and so far I have been able to make it work but the formatting of the output is terrible.To make things simple, the only real information I need from each player is their name and guid. Hopefully each player's info is on a new line.This is the xml document the server is outputting:HTML Code:[URL]
Code:
import flash.net.URLRequest;
import flash.net.URLLoader;
import flash.events.*;
[code]....

I would like to be able to operate a scanner from my AIR application. Since there's no support for this natively, I'm trying to use the NativeProcess class to start a jar file that can run the scanner. The Java code is using the JTwain library to operate the scanner. The Java application runs fine by itself, and the AIR application can start and communicate with the Java application. The problem seems to be that any time I attempt to use a function from JTwain (which relies on the JTwain.dll), the application dies IF AIR STARTED IT.[code]

I have created a flash program and I would like to run a second flash program from inside the first. To explain, say I am running a program that draws a circle and fills it with a color. Then, I have designed a second program that will divide a circle into sectors by entering percentages, to turn that circle into a pie chart. Is there a way to be running the "draw a circle" program and have a button that opens the "divide the circle into sectors" program in a new window and then passes information from that program to the first program. I am sure I will have to send the information from the second program to an XML file and then have the first program recieve it from the XML file (which I can do), but I don't know if I can run the second program from inside the first program.

I'm using this snippet to check if an app/activity is installed:
public static boolean isIntentAvailable(Context context, String action) {
final PackageManager packageManager = context.getPackageManager();
final Intent intent = new Intent(action);
List<ResolveInfo> list =
packageManager.queryIntentActivities(intent,
PackageManager.MATCH_DEFAULT_ONLY);
return list.size() > 0;
} public static boolean isScanAvailable(Context context) {
return isIntentAvailable(context, "com.google.zxing.client.android.SCAN");
}
In the above example it checks if the Barcode Scanner App is installed, which works just fine. However, if I try to check for the Adobe Flashplayer using com.adobe.flashplayer it doesn't work and always returns false. Is there a better / more reliable method to check for Flash?
