I am trying to use this xml search form URL... and one thing i am finding is it seems to be character specific.Say i search joe bob because my xml file says Joe Bob the search result will return nothing as i didn't use caps when i typed in the search field. Is there a way i can get it to check for upper or lower case ?

i'm working on a menu with a search field, all this menu is done in flash, on the english side works perfect, you write "dah" and it searches for "dah" but on chinese, you write "餅" it posts "??" instead the characters that i want to search for.I changed the encodig, but it just got things worst, i just can write squares if i change the encoding to big5,

I'm using Kirupa's "search array" to check wether something is loaded. It "works" however it doesn't stop if daft = 1, so it keeps checking and gives its final answer as 0 if I can't escape from the for loop I don't know

View 2 RepliesLong story short: I want to search a multidimensional array in AS3 for (in this example) the location of 6 strings - all of which are stored in another unrelared array. Long story long: Once I get the locations (in the multidimensional array) of each string, i then know where it's located, and can access other atributes of that object - so if i found the string "box3" is located in element [5] of my multidimensional array, i can now target: multiArray[5][3] to return the 4th item stored (keeping in mind we're starting from 0, so 3 is the 4th position).
I can get this to work once, but I'm trying to set up a for loop based on the length of my basic string storage array - this array holds (in this example) 6 instance name strings - each time my for loop loops, i need to run a search in my multdimensional array for the next consecutive instance name. Then, once I've located all of them (and store the results in a new temporary array) I can dig around in each location for the info I need.

View 6 RepliesI have a super involved and somewhat silly site I've been working on for a long time piecing together fragments of AS2 code and modifying them to the best of my limited ability.The site is here:http:[url]....I am finally adding the last steps, a series of contact forms with a PHP script in the back end. Anyway, I implemented a form script and have it triggered by clicking the "CONTACT" button you can see on the lower bar. So, click contact and once the form opens (an external SWF loaded into an MC), type away and everything works fine unless you use the letter "f" in either upper or lowercase. It causes the screen to flash and for the form input to lose focus.It works (in that you can enter everything normally -- the form doesn't function, but that's just the PHP which I have yet to edit.)

View 4 RepliesI am having problems formatting the XML Flash photo gallery. I can't seem to get the photos to center on the page. Some of my photos are vertical and others horizontal, and they are all pushed to the left. I don't want to make all the photos the same width. Is there any way to use css to style the xml? Or is there some other way to do it? Url...Also, if anyone notices any other problems with the gallery,please let me know. This is only the second thing I've done in Flash, and I may have made some mistakes when I changed things.
View 14 RepliesI am new to flash and was working with the Kirupa tutorial that showed the letters of Kirupa being moved and fading, all done within 30 frames. The example that was posted is so smooth and slow in its transition. I followed the directions but mine is quick and jerky.
View 1 RepliesI've started a project a while ago, so far it is almost done but there is something that I seem not to be able to do alone... I would like to add a search function which I don't know how to do.It will not be a normal search function so I am going to try to beak it down with an easy example:
Let's say I did a project that is embeded somewhere in a normal html page with a main menu from where you can get to different city maps (e.g. New York, Paris, Berlin). The maps are seperate swfs. On all those maps there are several buttons for historical sites (or whatever) with a mousover function and a link to a page with more information about that specific site (on html).the names of the buttons are always a letter and a number (New York: "N1","N2","N3"...; Paris: "P1","P2","P2"... instance name for P1 is p1_btn)
What I need now is a search field in the main menu where you can search for those buttons. Meaning if I type in "N2" and hit search it will take me to the New York swf and show me button "N2".
I know this might not make much sense like this but the actual version is quite different and more complicated context-wise. Therefore if possible I would like to leave it that way with the main menu, the linked swfs and the buttons.
I've got a catalog of events in XML that is read into my Flash swf. I'm trying to develop a search box that will search through the titles, descriptions, presenters, etc. and return a list of related events.
Does anybody know a prebuilt AS2 system that does this? Or a good tutorial on how to go about this? I have googled, but haven't found much.
Here is my approach so far. When I load in the XML I create an array of the frequency of all the words in the nodes that I'm interested in. I figured it would be useful to do this once instead of each time a search is performed. I store that word index in another array with an index that will take me back to the original node. I was trying to figure out if there was someway to put it all into one index, but then I'm not sure how I'd link back to the original nodes.
When performing a search I look through the array of word indexs and check for the word and return another array of which original nodes contain the word.
If the search term isn't represented I generate all the permutations of the word that have an edit distance of 1 -- i.e. that have a letter changed, added, or deleted in any position. So for example if the search is for "the" the list of 1-edit would be ahe, bhe, ... tae, tbe,... tha, thb...athe, bthe,...tahe,tbhe, ....... he, te, th. If any of those are found it returns the results and puts up a "Did you mean xxxxx?" type of notice.
So far all of this is working rather well.
I'm still working on figuring out what to do if the user puts two words into the search box.
Also haven't figured out what to do with plurals and other "stem" type situations.
I want to make this pretty simple and easy for people to get the results they want.
Its mostly the way google is set up that makes it so easy. I just happened to notice that the url for a google search is always the same except for the search variables at the end. http:[url]....So all I did was to add a textfield to get the variable to put on the end of the URL. (And a button to press)

I am building a photo gallery for a friend using Kirupa's tutorial (located here: [URL]). The gallery is working out great except for one problem and that is using the keyboard left and right button. For some reason when I press the right arrow on the keyboard to go the next image it jumps to the third image, then the 5th, 7th, 9th etc. As you can see it keeps skipping one image, the same thing happens going backwards. However, when I use the onscreen previous/next buttons it cycles through just fine.

how to add a sort of timer for the slideshow...one that counts down from fx 6 seconds to 0 every time a new image in the slideshow appears. something with a variable and a text area...but how to make the count down follow the image delay...i really would like to know if this is possible.

I am using the kirupa xml foto gallery and I am loading different sized images... if they would load nicely centered the problem is solved... (not to stage width/height..!!) The movieclip "picture" has to load the images centered from its own registration point so that it can be placed anywhere on the stage.... now its loads the images from aka left top...

I'm trying to generate an isometric grid via code using kirupa's tutorial but it's not quite working correctly as I'm trying to convert it. I am trying to generate a 5 x 5 grid with a unique coordinate to each square, but I can only get a row to form with the coordinates showing x = 5 and y = 5 for each square of the single row. I am trying to create a simple form using Actionscript 3 that will collect data from a form, then pass that data to an asp file. I have attached the following code to the submit button,but this is not working.I'm not sure if I have to add anything else and I don't understand why this is not working. View 2 RepliesI am having some issues with a php email form that I am using in my AS3 project. the form works perfect and all communication is good.however when the user is on the page and wants to tab to the next text field it jumps to one of my hyperlinks on the same page and not to the next text field down on the php form.
is there any way to stop this from happening.I have tried placing the php form on a seperate layer in a seperate mc and I have done the same with the hyperlinks .you can see what I mean by visiting this development site.(after entering go to contact)http:[url].....
