ActionScript 2.0 :: Flash Xml.load Offline In Msie SP2?
Mar 11, 2005
I've recently sucessfully ported a PHP/MySQL driven search to an offline Flash and XML format. It works perfectly loading its results from a large selection of XML files.
The problem I have lies with Msie under SP2. Since there is a html frame structure for the offline site the browser silently fails to show the Flash movie that loads the XML files from the hard drive and displays search results. Another movie is responsible for collecting the search query and sends it to the results movie through a localConnection.
Msie under SP2 obviously needs to be configured to allow this Flash file to be loaded and to let it retreive its xml files. My question is, are there nicer ways to work around this problem other than asking the viewer to manually configure his/her Internet Explorer...

I've tried to use it. It works fine in all the browsers in a non frame layout. But when aplying it to a frame layout (i know, not cool but nessecairy) it refuses to work, and it generates an error message. That it can't open the requested HTML page.
In order to work offline I'm using XAMPP to develop a website which is working great except that I can't see any Flash content. External Flash players have no problem working offline but obviously won't load anything but SWFs and FLVs. Is there a way to get Flash to work in a browser while offline?
I'm building a site that needs to work both online (served in a browser using http://), and offline (served in a browser using file:///). The site is using basic HTML, but needs to be able to play FLV or MP4 videos. There are many video players that work online, but getting a player to work on the users machine is more problematic. Every one I have tried either doesn't work or shows a message about adding the flash movie to my trusted files in flash player.[code]Has anybody experienced a similar problem? Does anybody have a suggestion for alternatives that may work.
The user is downloading the .swf file (an e-brochure) from a link in an email. I'm trying to track the users interaction on the offline .swf. Is this possible?
I am trying to create a 'Password' database with flash to push both to and from an external database, the only problem is that I do not want to have to run IIS or Apache or any other web server. Is there any way to read a non localhost/web based type database within flash? If so can someone point me to a tutorial or at least in the right direction?
it does of course save the flash/game cookies to the macromedia folder but, what if i want to reformat? how would i, on reinstall of windows reload my game progress? theres gotta be a way?
I've got Flash content that needs to run within a web page off a CD. It works fine if I change the security settings in the Flash Global Security settings screen but that can only be accessed online. So...an the security violation be overcome with a cross-domain XML on the local drive somehow?
I am currently using Flex (Flash Builder 4) and making web service connections to a Apache PHP Zend AMF server to retrieve data. This works great, but I am wondering what options are available for fault tolerance. I know I can probably set up a second server that the application would switch to in the event it is unable to reach the first server. I am also thinking about trying to give each individual machine some tolerance.
For example, if they at least had the ability to input data to the application, that would be a start. So if they click 'save' and it can not reach the server, it caches it or stores it to a local file until the server is back up. Though lack of being able to do data look-ups might be a big problem. Maybe there are already some libraries or something I can look at to do this?
I have created a button, and once you hit the button (within the HTML page), I want it to open another HTML page in the same frame, both HTML pages are stored in my hard drive offline. It required coding in the code snippet panel which I do not know.
I'm working with FLash+XML, and I had a thought: I don't want to give my clients Flash+XML solutions, if they will have to edit the XML themselves. It's too complicated for them.So I thought of a Flash Application for offline use, that would be some sort of a XML Content Management System, built in flash, suitable for offline use (user should upload updated .XML files which is OK). In this app, creating / editing / removing nodes should be like managing folders and their content in Windows Explorer.I don't believe my mind is bright enough to be the first having this idea, perhaps such program already exists. Does it?

I use a laptop which is never connected to the web for customer demos away from base. It does not have the Flash authoring environment installed either. Furthermore, a customer's own system used to run development versions of web sites using HTML with Flash content is not guaranteed to have web access either. Because some of the associated FLV files are quite large, uploading to a web host for such testing is not really viable even where clients have web access at meetings.
I have an AS3-based project which triggers Flash 10 local security protection on systems other those that used for authoring, for which the workaround is to set the source folder as trusted using the Flash Player Settings Manager. but [URL] doesn't seem to offer a useful way to avoid this problem without going on line to the Flash Player Settings Manager via an Adobe web site.
I'm having timing problems with a music video I am working on. The framerate it 24fps which for a 22 second animation should give me 528 frames. However, In the preview of the slides the 22 second mark on the sound is reached by about 310 frames. What's more, the 22 second point in the sound is reached at a later time in an exported swf movie, but still not 528 or 310. Why is the timing different in all viewing modes, which one should I use to time my video or how can I set them to all display the video at the correct timing?
create a xml news board, i finally completed the news board and i had no problem displaying my offline xml file.I uploaded it to my testing server and nothing came up. i parse the rss feed in a different way ?when i tested it on my testing server. but when i tried it locally from my flash app it worked.
I am creating an offline Flash Application which takes the user's photograph and stores it into a designated folder. My problem is how can i Store the photographs WITHOUT using any server side languages. (As its a standalone offline application).I know about the JPEGencoder classes and all.I can't use FileRefrence because it asks the user where he wants to store the image while i want to save the image in a pre-defined folder automatically.
Is it possible to read/write data to and from Access with Flash in a offline format? I need to create a stand alone system that users can log into and pull information from - but it will not be networked or have any sort of internet connection.
I want to create a flash form and be able to collect the dataoffline. The company I work for has a e-newsletter, and we wouldlike to set a lab top up (outdoors w/ no interenet connection) atan event and have the people sign up for the newsletter on thisflash form and collect the data in some kind of database (excel orwhatever). We had used paper in the past, but taking the names andemail addresses from the paper is time consuming and sometimes very
I am designing a CD-ROM for a client for my university's project.I was wondering if It is possible to add some thing like a contact page? if yes, what should I do? As it is not possible to use Php for an offline media what else can I do? I did a research and found out I can connect the form or a button to out look but that's all, nothing more?
I have imported an .FLV file to my flash movie and no matter what I try when I upload this it just won't show online. heres the info in my component properties:and im just loading the .swf in the normal old fashion way for testing:
HTML Code: <embed height="400" width="540" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" src="intro.swf" play="true" loop="true" menu="true"></embed>
It plays perfectly well in 'Publish Preview' and when you launch the HTML page offline. However it won't play online. First I published it in Flash 8, where I'd created it, uploaded the swf and the html. In Firefox it loaded a blank page which revealed on right click that there was a Flash movie there, but you couldn't see it or do anything. In IE it just stuck half way through loading. Then I resaved it in Flash CS3 and published it with AC_runactivecontent.js. Uploaded it to my site and the result was exactly the same. To check my syntax a friend uploaded it to his webspace, and put another swf on the same page using the same syntax. The new swf played, but mine didn't. The 'publish settings' for the two were the same. Again, if you look at the page offline both play. My friend made some changes to the FLA and published it successfully on his webspace. He suggested the file size may have been a problem: I had had some fairly large audio files in it and 'updated' them to smaller ones. The resulting swf was 6mb. We wondered if the old ones had been retaines somewhere, boosting the file size. The only other difference I can see between his version and mine is that there's a font I used which wasn't on his PC. His version has it as Arial (there is only one word in the whole thing). I took his version, deleted the sound files and reimported the smaller versions, which then published as a 3mb file. But now it doesn't play! Results in IE and FF exactly as above.
I am developing a Flash application that will be made available for both online and offline (via DVD).Opening the HTML through the web presents no issues. However, if the HTML file is opened locally, Flash Player security stops the application from communicating with local HTML files unless the Flash Global Security Settings is set.How can I allow the Flash application to run properly locally without setting the Security Settings of the FP.
I'm making a software using AIR, and I got the installer installer.exe, but when I'm going to install in the target pcs, It tells me "This application requires a version of adobe air which cannot be found .....", but I need that my installer setup everything that I need to run my app in these pcs that have no Internet connection.
Hi, i am very new to actionscript, and i am trying to change language of text of label for online-offline button.actually for other label text i am able to change the language but for online and offline button it is getting difficult because it is depending upon network available. Also for the label for online-offline,we can't give separate property for online and offline.Only either online or only offline we can give.
Can you please find any solution for this?

Below i am giving the code i have written for online-offline.But that one is working only for online, not off line
I've used this website a lot over the past few weeks as a reference for my actionscript 2 questions. It's really been fantastic ď so first I would like to take a moment to appreciate the community and wealth of information on this site and forum.
I have a couple of methodology questions concerning an .fla file I'm working on. I made a flash gallery here. As you can see online the images fade in as they are loaded dynamically via the loadClip() method.I would prefer them to load more like this. Is it possible to load an image to a variable instead of a MovieClip that exists on stage?
In addition to this if you download the zip file with the flash file you'll notice that the position of the images and the text is more accurate than when viewed in a browser. I thought flash was a self-contained entity and that it would run identically on all platforms / browsers / online / offline / remotely / locally.
I am looking into building an AIR application that will show positions of locations and associated details in layers over maps. The positions will be entered into the application as GPS coordinates. The users of this application will only need to look at one country and will not always have internet access. Is it possible to do this with Google maps?Is Google maps the best solution for this?Do you know of other packages that would offer similar functionality to Google maps in Flex/Flash?
We're using the script to have an online brochure, and now want to be able to put it on a CD for offline browsing as well. When it is viewed offline, an error message pops up and wants me to add the page/folder in here:Since this is a plugin script that doesn't have an fla file for me to edit, what are my options here? I've tried to decompile the swf file in order to make the changes, but that doesn't work (the script is fairly complex, so I didn't think it would decompile fully).
