ActionScript 2.0 :: Rotating MovieClip Towards Mouse Position
Feb 12, 2005Any way to rotate a movieclip to face the mouse location?

View 1 RepliesIm trying to follow an example and get a simple arrow sprite to rotate to the mouse position. This example comes out of the book 'Foundation Actionscript 3.0 Making things move' however when I build the following .as files, open a new as3.0 document, assign the document class to RotateToMouse, run the movie the swf's stage is blank and lacking the arrow sprite im telling it to create.
Code:
Code: Select allpackage

Does anyone know the code for finding the global positioning of X & Y co-ordinates of a click of a button which is constantly rotating, and then secondly the code for when you click on the button it displays a movie clip on top of it -(position of x & y when clicked) at the angle that you clicked it (so underneath the buttons are still rotating so other people can click them where they are)to explain the context, I'm trying to design a mock up of a circular interactive table when someone comes up to it and clicks on one of the buttons that are moving, it reads where the person clicked it and opens up a new box (movie clip) where they clicked it (at the angle) so its not upside down if you are at the topI've included my .fla file which shows the four buttons moving and a little diagramexplaining what I'm trying to do.
View 5 RepliesI have been trying to convert this effect into AS3 but have been having majour issues : rotate clip
I have an object (class) with a handle, when dragged I would like the clip to rotate with the mouse (much like rotating an object in photoshop). I have put my code into an ENTER_FRAME event, and have been using a matrix object to do my rotation (is there an easier way?)
Code:
private function rotateClip(e:Event)
{
myMatrix.rotate((Math.floor(180*Math.atan2(mouseX,mouseY)/Math.PI)+90));
[Code].....
was my attempt at converting the code from the example link. I've also tried various other methods using trig to no avail.
I am trying to make a line point to wherever the cursor is when I stumbled upon the Math.atan2(); function. It appeared that i would put
line.rotation = Math.atan2(1,1);
to get 45 degrees or pi/4, but I was wrong. It barely moved the movieclip at all. So what I'm trying to do is to get this movie clip to rotate along with the mouse so the line is always pointing at the cursor. Also, how would you get movieclip to move along the line created by the line of these two points?
Okay I have a script in which I have added an image to the stage. It is absolute centered. I then have another with is on top but much bigger. I would like the big image to move opposite of my mouse position on the smaller image. ie: cursor is on bottom left corner the bottom left corner of the larger image is in the same spot. And the same thing for any other area.
I have tried many different ways but to no avail. I have done research but no one has been able to give me a solid answer. Anyone know of a way to accomplish this. Keep in mind this it needs to work regardless of the image size.
I am using Action Script 3.0 to animate an instance (MovieClip class) to follow the mouse positron the thing is, the left corner of the instance follows the mouse courser. Now there is a cross on the to left corner and my guess would be that the mouse follows that cross, but i can not change the position of the cross within the instance/ original object. Does anyone know how to make the center of that instance follow the mouse cursor?

View 2 Replieshow can i test the position of the mouse inside the area of a specific movieclip WITHOUT using rollover and rollout events?
the movieclip is the irregular shape (star)
i need to do some action according to the position of mouse (inside/outside of the movieclip area) but i can not use rollover event because i have a button placed over the movieclip.
Essentially what I'm trying to do is nearly the same as this: http:[url].......However I'd like to ease/tween the movieclip position and rotation to the mouse position.The main issue I see is trying to get the current movieclip rotation and the target rotation,then tween it cockwise or counterclockwise from current to target.The way a movieclips rotation uses positive and negative numbers throws it off.If you just want to lock the mc rotation to the mouse rotation its fine, but once you try to tween it you run into difficulties. So the end effect would be like if you were to draw imaginary clockwise circles around the object, it should just keep rotating clockwise towards the mouse. Then if you started going counter clockwise it should just keep easing counter clockwise to the mouse.
View 1 RepliesI am looking for direction to this old UFC effect - [URL] that appears on the main page. It is movieclips rotating on different axis based on the mouse position. So far I have found this script:
stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_MOVE,EnterFrame);
function EnterFrame(e:Event)
{
mc.rotation = (180*Math.atan2(mouseY-mc.y,mouseX-mc.x))/Math.PI + 90;
}
But this only rotates on x and y. What's a way to approach this effect?

View 3 RepliesThis seems like it should be simple, but... I've been trying to figure out how to do the following, and I can't seem to make it work. It all works except for the hit test part. I have a working drag and drop application. I need something different to happen when the user drops an object while the mouse x,y is, or is not over a certain (very irregularly shaped) bitmap inside a movieClip. how to do this? I have found some complicated ways to hit test between 2 bitmaps, but not 1 bitmap and mouse x,y.
View 3 RepliesI want to ask how to show/ hide movieclip by one click in the same position of the mouse cursor .
The idea is that i have 10 square shapes and i want to click one of them to put a small circle inside the square and do the same with the other squares .
I have a basic script that moves a movieclip to the opposite Y position of the mouse pointer:
Code:
var cP = this.createEmptyMovieClip("centerPoint", 1);
cP._x = Stage.width / 2;
cP._y = Stage.height / 2;
var myBox = cP.attachMovie("boxMC", "myBox", 2, {_y:cP._y});
cP.onMouseMove = function() {
myBox._y = (cP._ymouse * -0.9);
};
Everything works great, but I'd really love to be able to ease the box to it's Y position, rather than moving it to it's final position immediately. I'm having a difficult time with it because the box is moved based on the mouse position, which obviously doesn't ease.
I need to move a movieclip based on mouse x position. Like this site [URL] - Which I built using a flashloaded app, but I need more control in this project so I'd like to code it without the app. Basically, I have an image of a boy (left) and a girl (right) and I want to move the boy slightly toward the girl when the mouse goes right and slightly away when the mouse goes left. But only about 25-50 pixels in each direction.
I've cobbled some code together from google searching and rough ideas, and it works in a way, but the boy jumps about 400 pixels to the left on the initial mouse move and then floats a bit too far right and left from there. Here's what I've got on the boyMC:

I am having difficulty with getting the playhead to move inside a movieclip based on the horizontal or vertical position of the mouse on the screen. I can get the horizontal motion to move the playhead, but I can't get the vertical movement to do the same. I have attached the document class .as file for it.
View 2 RepliesHow would you force a mouse follow movieclip to snap to a x y position if it reaches x y boundaries or perhaps if a button is released the movie clip snaps to a x y position? Of course if the mouse returns to x y boundaries I'd like for the movie clip to follow again.
Right now this is the code I'm using to make the movieclip follow the mouse within x y boundaries:
Code:
onClipEvent (load) {
_x = 0;
_y = 0;
[code]....
The other is a scrub that manipulates a MovieClip, but tracks a change in mouse position from click to release, instead of tracking the changes in position of a slider playhead. But here is the download for that one:(sorry not a link due to not having over 50 posts yet, you will need to copy and paste)I have found plenty of AS1+2 ways of doing this idea, yet just haven't found any solid AS3 versions.I am currently in a class to learn Actionscript and have tried to figure out this problem yet I am just not yet to that level.
View 0 RepliesI have recently followed a tutorial to make a movieclip in flash that makes buttons spin around a point depending on the mouse position. I have made my own version off this and would like to use it in a full flash website that i am making at the moment.
The only problem that i am having is with aligning this clip and as it is made up of script i cant physicly drag it to were i want it. I understand how to alighn this with x/y positioning but when i preview the flash in a web browser it is positioned correctly but then when i 'full screen' the browser this clip jumps about 4 inches down the page.
I have a MC that i am moving on to the stage that i want to look as if it rolls in to position. I cant find any referance on how to do this. my code so far is:
//Pic1
PicHolder1.x = 1800;
PicHolder1.y = 322.4;
Tweener.addTween(PicHolder1, {x:161.2,y:322.4, time:1, transition:"linear"});
this gets the motion across but how do i roll it then stop at the end position?
I have a movieclip (root.mc) containing multiple movieclips (root.mc.mc1, root.mc.mc2...). And the parent clip is rotating (rotation). I need to know position of the nested mc when its moving trace _root.mc._x+_root.mc.mc1._x) returns the static value. But the value is static value based on the starting point of the moving clip, is there a way to get absolute position while the clip is rotating?
View 1 RepliesI have a wheel with info on it in pie shaped areas, the user can turn the wheel to any position. What I need to do is have movie clips play when the wheel is at a certain rotation, depending on where the wheel is turned different clips would play off to the side
View 2 RepliesBasically the x position of the mouse should control the play position of a movie. Do I need something like an event handler (I'm not sure exactly what these do, but I've seen similar scripts that seem to use them).
View 2 RepliesI have an Input Text area that users can edit and then submit. I need to be able to show, on screen, the cursor's current position as they type. I don't need to know where the mouse is but all work-arounds I've found so far can only tell me the mouse position. The font for the text is 'courier' or 'courier new' and the Input Text area is scrollable.

View 1 RepliesI have a map application that when I use the mouse wheel the map will scale up or scale down. The next thing I want to do is to focus on the mouse pointer while zooming on the part of the map.
I have this code...
function focusMousePosition(){ onMouseMove = function (){ Stage.width = _root._xmouse; Stage.height = _root._ymouse; updateAfterEvent(); }}
var mouseWheelListener = new Object();var wheelNum:Number;
mouseWheelListener.onMouseWheel = function(wheelNum){ focusMousePosition(); if (wheelNum > 0){ map._xscale *= 0.9; map._yscale *= 0.9; }else{ map._xscale *= 1.1; map._yscale *= 1.1; }}Mouse.addListener(mouseWheelListener);
Code:
addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_WHEEL,mouseWheel);
function mouseWheel(event:MouseEvent) {
Map.scaleX = Map.scaleX + event.delta*.01;
Map.scaleY = Map.scaleX;
}
The problem with this code is that it scales from the registration point (0,0). Due to the other transformations I'm doing to this image at various times, it isn't possible to move the registration point. The image is larger than the stage and the user is able to drag it around. I want the mouse wheel to zoom in on the place the mouse is hovering over (or at a minimum...the center of the "view" they have...aka the stage)I tried doing this:
Code:
internalPoint = new Point(Map.mouseX, Map.mouseY);
externalPoint = new Point(stage.mouseX, stage.mouseY);
var matrix:Matrix = Map.transform.matrix;
[code]....
Which, incidentally, I'm using that whole portion of code to zoom into the state they will be in when they use the mouse wheel.
I'm trying to create a simple site that when you move the mouse to the right of the screen a movie clip rotates one way abt 45 degrees and moves the other way when the mouse moves to the left.
I'm trying to get the effect of a horizon line rotating to the mouses movement around the screen.
I am working in AS2 and I have a flash project that is almost complete but I would like 1 thing modified.I have a fish image following my mouse.
(script below)
onClipEvent (enterFrame) {
_root.yChange = Math.round(_root._ymouse-this._y);[code]...........
The problem is that I would like the fish image to "turn" and face the direction of the mouse. Currently, as is, the fish follows the mouse fine when the mouse is moving to the right, but when it goes to the left the fish swims backwards rather than turns and swims the correct way following the mouse to the left.How would I modify the script to get the fish to turn and always swim forward when going left and right?
