ActionScript 2.0 :: Springs On Stage - Elastic And Static Points
May 8, 2004
I am trying to do the following spring in Flash MX: [URL]. The red points should be elastic, and the black ones - static (actually I will be attaching buttons with other specific functionality there). The spring should be situated on the screen the way it is right now - horizontally centered in the lower part of the stage.

I've attached some images for reference, but as I make my window larger the bottom of my stage gets cut off. I'm working off of a website template and am not particularly sure how the elastic function works. I've had some success changing the code to
Code:
Stage.align = "T"; and Stage.scaleMode = "showAll";
but then there are just solid blocks on either side of the background image that don't look very good.
so the bottom will be locked in place and not get cut off when resizing the window.
mainpage, Frame 1
Code:
Stage.align = "TL";
Stage.scaleMode = "noScale";
_quality = "BEST";

I am curious on how I can add springs into a basic motion tween for something like menus.
I checked out Kirupa's small tutorial but that is a constant, not something like rollovers. The basic idea is much like lots of other sites, I just want to add a little less ridged feedback from my menus.

I have a magnify glass cursor for my portfolio website and it's working fine, except I need it to stop before it reaches the edges of the stage as when it is in a browser it "cuts off" the magnify glass and it looks weird, see on my site and move the cursor to the very right or left: [URL]. The code I have to control my glass is here and I just need to be able to add some x,y etc coordinates somewhere to stop it at certain points on the stage?
var moveGlass:Number;
magnifyingGlass.onPress = function() {
moveGlass = setInterval(startGlass,1); };
function startGlass() {
magnifyingGlass._x = _root._xmouse;
magnifyingGlass._y = _root._ymouse;
} magnifyingGlass.onEnterFrame = function(){
this.largeobject._x = (this._parent.original._x-this._x)*2;
this.largeobject._y = (this._parent.original._y-this._y)*2;
}

I'm working on a project where I have to load multiple movie clips and center them on the stage.
PHP Code:
loaded_clip._x = Stage._width/2;loaded_clip._y = Stage._height/2;
Unfortunately, in this case that doesn't cut it. The move clips I'm loading all have different registration points, and they end up looking anything but centered. Is there a way to center them based on some other factor other than the registration point, so that they look centered?

I've experienced an odd behavioral of flash and correct positing of objects, properly a bi product of floating point values.
case: Imagine 10 MC which expand and contrast with a damping effect, each MC's would then position itself to the previously MC in Y axis.
problem: when all objects expand and contrast and then reposition themselves to the previously MC, then occasionally there's a shift in the Y position which gives a white space of 0.x pixels.
I seem that either flash have an update issue or more likely there's a conflict in the way flash convert floating points to position the object on stage.

add multiple instances of an object to the stage at different but not random points.
For example - I have a box that is linked to a class file. In the class file I have an "ADDED_TO_STAGE" event listener. The function that is called places the box at a certain position on the stage say.... x=100, y= 200.
In the document class I create an instance of it like so -
_box:box = new box();
addChild(_box);
Now what I want is to create multiple instances of box on the stage every 5 seconds. But I don't want them all to spawn at (100,200) on the stage. But here's the catch, I don't want them to be random spawns either.
for ex- I want the first instance of box to spawn on (100,200), then 5 seconds later, the second instance to spawn at (200, 800), the third at (100, 500) and so on.
Would it be possible for me to create objects on the stage to serve as reference points for where i want the instances to spawn instead of writing the exact co-ordinates?

I have a static utility class that must have a reference to the stage, and I'm not sure what is the best option for me to get the stage inside my class...
I've thought of these options:Pass in as a parameter of the function Have a static variable I can set to the stage I don't like either of these because they are ugly.
What methods can you suggest for me to get a reference to the stage in my static class?

Does anyone know how to addChild(aMovieClip) to stage by using a static function, like:
public static var player
public static function LoadPlayer()
{
GameEngine.player = new Player
stage.addChild(player)
}
(Or better yet tell me how to run functions in different class without creating instances of them or using static function )

I understand how to resize the stage to 100% x 100%, but it seems exceptionally difficult trying to keep a footer MC/Sprite/Shape 20px high yet 100% wide.
I can use EXACT_FIT, but if the browser shrinks or expands the movie clip changes size. Keeping that height static is a pain at the moment!
So, basically I'm just looking for direction. The liquid layout tutorials seem to work for elements NOT stretched 100%...

I need to know when an element is added to the stage (using main document class). So i use :
Code:
public override function addChild(__child:DisplayObject):DisplayObject{
super.addChild(__child);
trace("child added");
return __child;
}
Which works fine. I also use a static class, to which i pass the stage using :
Code:
public static function setStage(__stage:Stage):void{
_stage = __stage;
}
But if i add to the stage (_stage) a MovieClip from the static class, my "real" stage doesn't seem to get that something was added. So i guess _stage !== stage.
So why is this happening, why is _stage not getting the methods of stage ?

Is there a way to make an static method act over an object of its class that is already on the stage, without using the keyword "this"? I mean, like "generic object of this class: do what I'm telling you to do, wathever your instance name".My goal is to create an method that get called by any object of this class, based on the changing on the value of an external variable, but since I cannot use the "this" keyword to reffer to each instance, I could not figure out a solution.

I have been tasked with trying to create a drawing tool that draws dotted lines as you drag the mouse across the stage. I can easily capture the points on MouseEvent.MOUSE_MOVE and store them in a vector and then draw the points as dots:
The problem is that I need to calculate evenly distributed points on an ever growing Vector of points so I can only draw the line between say every 5th point (say using modulus). I have been battling away with Bezier curve equations both Quadratic and Cubic but still can't quite figure out how to convert my Vector of points into an evenly distributed Vector of Points without sucking the life from the CPU.

I want to make a static function that I can use in all the custom classes.It should be some kill(); function that would remove the object from the stage as well as removing its event listeners. I made it in Document class, and it didn't work. Here's the code:

public static function kill(e:DisplayObject)

Let's say you have the following situation:
1. Static var(an Array) stored in a class.
2. You create a variable reference to the static class in a separate class.
3. Splice some items from the reference variable in the separate class.
4. Trace the static class and the items have been removed from that too.
5. Verify several times.
6. Get confused.
7. Post on Kirupa.

Ok, so I have a bit of a mess here (Which I'm probably not doing right anyway, which could be my problem...). I have a document class, I'll call it as Body.as, that creates an object from another class known as Headgear.as. There are also other objects created from other classes, or will be in the future. Now, amoung all this, Headgear.as and all of the other classes Body.as will use to make objects require the use of dragging functions (starting and stopping dragging). On stopping drags, position checks are then made to compare a particular hidden movieclip with the dragged MC.
To try and save myself some hassle (from making the same functions over and over to ensuring that when the objects are created I don't need to send a complete crapload of variables just to ensure the position checking function would work), I had the functions for the event listeners (Which are set-up on the draggable MCs in Headgear.as) just direct to functions in Body.as

I have a strange issue where a dynamic text field will not show a bold version of a font (Gerstner BQ) if the regular version is on the stage in a static text field.Remove the static text field and the dynamic text field displays the bold font correctlyI have created a test FLA to reproduce this and by turning the layer with the static text field on and off (Publish settings -> Flash -> include hidden layers [unchecked]), the issue is quite clearhis issue is so big for me that I have had to abandon a project in CS5 and start again in CS4 just to work around this.

If I created a static method. say I decide to call on other methods within that static method. Do those methods I call on need to be static as well? what If I used some of the properties. Not to store data permanently, but just within that process. Do those properties need to be static ??

Yesterday I found myself wondering, what is the difference between either having a class with methods that are all static, or simply giving your class the static attribute?

Alright, so I have a class that is linked (via the linkage panel) to a scrollbox class. I'll paste the class here:[code]Ignoring the formatting, the commented out functions are the ones causing the issue. Adobe says that it's a static class and I can't use non-static functions. The way I wanted to use it was:
1. Call the page button generating function above.
2. In the main code in my program is this line:scrollbox.setClickFunction(historyContent.generate Page);So when the buttons that are supposed to be generated are clicked, the scrollbox class can call the History pages generatePage function and pass it which page to show. (I did this because there was a lot of text and a limit on how much would display, so small chunks sounded logical).
3. In the onClick function (which I haven't finished yet because the rest wont work), when you click one of the buttons it calls the set function. Its that simple.

Is it possible to put Elastic eas in and out without using the
Code:
import mx.transitions.Tween;
import mx.transitions.easing.*;
and then putting in values? Coz i need it for buttons, and diagonal popping doesnt work. So i was wondering if i could just put it on keyframes, and then select bounce or elastic.

i am working on movie clip that will change dimensions ( width and height ) depending on the loaded picture size .I made an easing transformation and works fine.
on (release) {
this.onEnterFrame = function() {
_root.box._width = _root.box._width+(200-_root.box._width)/2;[code]......
I think that it will be much more flashy if I make this transformation bouncy or elastic .I started by searching for tutorials but most of them were about elastic scaling (the shape is changing as one peace )But nothing about sizing , I mean putting a specific value for width and height .
