ActionScript 2.0 :: The Number Of Items Inside An Array?

I have an Array where in position 0, there are two items "name1" and "name2", then in position 1, there is only 1 item "name3", and position 2 there is only 1 item "name4".now when I trace like this:trace(exampleArray[0].length) the result is 2;but when I trace like this:trace(exampleArray[1].length) the result is 5;I understand that on the second trace its counting the length of the item so its the number of letters that its returning. I'm just wondering how can I get it to return 1, which is the number of items in that position which is what I'm interested in.

basically I have an array that stores some var(int/numbers). And when I loop through the array changing the numbers of the var, at the end the number seems still unchanged. You would have a better idea of what I'm talking about base on the below code.

I'm trying to create a shuffle button for my mp3 player. I don't want it to repeat any song in the xml playlist until all the songs are played. Is there to display a random number on the click of a button, without repeating any number in the array until all the numbers in the array are used?
I'm trying to get the number of items with a certain attribute in a xml file....for example, i want to find out how many "thumbs" there are with an attribute of "websites"

The above gets me the TOTAL number of items in the WHOLE list (numOfItems) so i'm guessing i need something like:

I am working on trying to collect data within an array (which works) and this data is collected when a button is pressed or selected. I also want the ability to remove an item from the array if the button is pressed again. Currently, I have these buttons dynamically generated and everything works well. The buttons have ids applied to them. SO what I am trying to get working is, if I select button 0, 2, 3 (0 indexing), the data array created holds [A., C., D.]. I want to remove A. after I click button 0. Instead, it seems to cause problems. What I am doing wrong with splicing??? trace statement:

If a dot being dragged causes another to exit the stage area that is fine.I have tried a few ways, none work too smoothly.One issue is that a dot which stops dragging at the edge can be hard to pick again.Another issue is that if you drag really fast you can drag a dot offstage. This is usually when the top or bottom dot is dragged quickly from where it has stopped at the edge and the mouse is released just outside the stage.FLA is attached.
I have a movieclip, "holder", that has a lot of movieclips contained inside of it. I am trying to duplicate "holder", as well as all of the movieclips inside of it and create a 2nd movieclip called "holder2". Below is an example of the problem I am having. The movieclip "holder2" is created, but it does not duplicate the movieclip "box" that is inside of "holder". Is it possible to do this using duplicateMovieClip? If not, is there another way of accomplishing the same thing?
Came across yet another obstacle today and was wondering. How would i permanently highlight specific items stored within a list box (flash component) if, say an error occured. Moreover, how would i highlight them red instead of green?
I'm trying to create a little linking menu, for that I want to use items and then have some text within those items. When the user then clicks on the item, it's supposed to link. It all has to be loaded externally from an xml file. Now, I can get it to work half the way, the items come up, but it doesn't load the text, and it doesn't link either.

HOWEVER: I would like that if - for example i am on item 10 and click to item 4 - all the thumbnails between 4-10 are removed. it it possible to dispatch this click event X number of times dependant on the - count value?? I have a basic XML menu that dynamically attaches the menuItem instances to the stage. They are being attached to the root timeline, but I want to put all of the actionscript inside a movieclip called "menu1_mc". I am having some trouble with the proper syntax, because when I move the code inside of the movieclip, I can't get them to attach to the stage unless I still reference _root. I'd like them to attach at (0,0) of the menu1_mc movieclip.
I have an AS2 .fla with all of my stage items on the timeline as opposed to inside a container swf. I must chose Center vertical and Horizontal options in the HTML alignment options when publishing in order for my movie to be perfectly centered in the middle of the browser. I would like to have a FULL Browser Background Image, however when I try using the following code, my background ("bg") does not fill the entire browser.
what I am doing wrong and if it is even possible to have a full browser background image while still using CENTER alignment in the HTML publish settings? I have tried the following code with and without the Stage align settings and with the xy coordinates centered-still no luck!
