ActionScript 3.0 :: Flash MaxChars Property - Default Text Format

I've created a code that read the date of a day from xml and then put it into a textfield. Here the declaration of the textfield:

var dateTxt:TextField = new TextField();
After I set for the textfield a format and the maxchars property:
Code:
dateTxt.defaultTextFormat = txtSTit;
dateTxt.maxChars = 8;
But if I insert a number of characters bigger that maxChars it is inserted in the textfield ignoring the maxChars property. It's because I've set the defaultTextFormat before to set the maxChars property?

So, I've been working on this for a few days and what drives me nuts is this is a simple file with a lot of simple script and I still can't figure out what this error is and how to fix it: Property 0 not found on flash.text.TextField and there is no default value The script below what we're looking at, everything is drawn with AS3, there are no library objects (save for the font). I sort of understand what the error is saying, but I don't fully understand it or how to fix it.

I have a dynamic input text field, but for some reason it wont allow me to set the max characters to 2...when i put the text field properties and it in the function, the text just appears layered one on top of the other, and when i add the text field globally, it allows to input an unlimted number of characters, but moving left to right.
I want the text to be able to be entered so only 3 numbers can show up?

I have 10 text input. (txtin1, txtin2, txtin3,.....) I going to change the maxChars for every text input but I going to do that dynamic in a loop. I have tried

The first line of this code is throwing ReferenceError #1069. "Property focusMask not found on ObjectButtonSkin and there is no default value." The "skin" variable is of type MovieClip, and the actual object instance is of type ObjectButtonSkin (which extends MovieClip).

This was never a problem before, so I'm not sure why this is happening. The ObjectButtonSkin class is not marked as dynamic or anything else, so perhaps that's the problem? One site suggested I should be using "()" instead of "[]" to access the property, but that doesn't seem right.

I've been using a custom base class with an id property that is automatically assigned by a manager class when an instance is created. I use this value in multiple ways and require it to differentiate each instance.
I want to remove the need for my own base class but still have a way to tell instances throughout my application apart.
Is there a property set on all objects in ActionScript 3 that can act as a unique identifier?

Which means it is refering to this specific line of code which rests in my Main method:

I am working on some text animations using ActionScript (3.0).The type of animations that I want require tweening each character of the text. Therefore, the way I want to do this is to break apart the text string, create a text field for each character, put it into a sprite, position the sprite so that the characters form a linear text and then tween the individual character sprites.But the problem is if I have an HTML string of text. If I try to break apart the string, then the HTML tags will break and they will be animated as if part of the text? Is there another way of achieving this type of character by character animation? Is there a way in which the HTML formatted text can be kept ?
