ActionScript 3.0 :: Private Variable In Class - Accessing Array?

I have a class that creates an array from a config xml file. I set a private variable in that class and use a getter in other classes to access the array. The routine that uses the array does the following:
- Call the getter and assign the returned value to a local (private) variable tmpArray. the getter is a simple return() using a value that is established in the constructor.
- Uses a for loop to itterate over the contents
- Uses array.shift() to pop the item in tmpArray
The next time I run the routine, the contents of the array is empty. I'm using the same getter. I implemented the getter when I tried to manage both arrays in the same class figuring that as long as the original array was private (i also tried static), that the value would not change. I have since worked around the problem by moving the routine that fills up the original value from the constructor to the getter. So, consider the following code:

If I create a variable myVar and set it to 1 then set myOtherVar = myVar, the both equal the same value. If I change the value of myOtherVar, myVar is not affected. But using the shift() method changes both the original and the copied array.

Here's my main class:

in the timeline I have a dynamic text box named my_textbox: var my_test:main = new main(); my_test.check_DVBViewer(); my_textbox.text = ??Basically the class waits for the callback variable (my_msg). The problem is: I need to set the dynamic textbox text to my_msg variable. How can I access it? I know I can access a public var in the timeline with functioname.variable but I can't define a public var inside a function, right?

Currently I have two classes which are "bullet" and "enemy".There are two instances of the enemy class.Code from an ENTER_FRAME event in the Bullet Class:

The Enemy Class has a private variable called "hits".What do I have to do in order to reduce the hits of the instance of the enemy that was hit by the bullet?

Why I am losing scope on an array that i define as a private member in a class? I am able to access it from a couple of different functions but in one place inparticular it keeps coming up "undefined". What causes scope to be lost in a function for an array that is defined as a private class member?

Okay so you've got your private vars in your AS2 Class, you think they're all safe right? Wrong.
Doing a trace(MyClass.myvar); will spit out an error that the var is private and you can't touch it.
But a trace(MyClass["myvar"]); will work perfectly fine. You can use it normal, without any setters getters outside the class.
Is there a way to protect against this? I think this is a huge security flaw. I know it's simple OOP, but a private var in an object should have rules.

I realize this is kind of an odd issue, but I am wondering if there's any way to get Flash to allow me to access a class's static functions using a class variable that points to the class. Example:I create a class called FooClass that has a static function named fooI then create a variable of type Class that points to it

One problem I keep coming upon is that I'd love to access the custom variables I define within one class from another class. In the game I'm creating, Main.as is my document class, from which I invoke a class called 'Level1.as' which invokes all the other classes I've written.Below I've pasted my class 'DieLikeThePhishes'. For example, I would love to know the syntax for accessing the boolean variable 'phish1BeenHit' (line 31) from another class. I have flash (AIR) application running on a single controlled system (there is only one computer running it and nobody has access to it).I will host some files on Amazon's S3 and I need to make sure that only my flash app running locally on that computer can access those files.I'm wondering what the best (most secure) approach would be for doing this.My initial thought is to make the files on S3 private and store the secret key on the local computer running the flash app. Then when I needed to access the files from flash I would send out an authenticated query string with some expiration time. The only problem with this is that I don't know how to generate the S3 signature in flash. Also I'm a little skeptical about storing the secret key on the flash machine (even though it's a privately owned machine with no other users using it).Is there a better approach perhaps?I have access to a server with PHP, so I could maybe use that as some kind of proxy, I'm just not sure how while keeping the file access secure and not creating a bottleneck through the web server (as opposed to direct access to S3).

I'm having trouble setting up my Ball class so I can set a variable which I can then access in another class later. I'm under the impression you can only do this with a public static var, but when I try to make my variable public static the code doesn't work.

the code checks where the balls are on the screen and moves them onto the square. I want to set a string variable for the direction its moving eg. "right" for the ball that's moving right. I'm not sure how to access this in another class.

I did a separate levelData class to be able to flexibly add levels. I was happy with it until my supervisor ordered me to convert my levelData into XML. I did an XML version of the levelData's data (question, answers, correct answer...). I used the old class and converted it so that it fetches the XML.
All seems well, I did traces of my answers array and it printed nicely...
But the headache started when I tried this.

On the stage I have a movieclip by the name of rect_mc. Inside it have have a MovieClip square_mc.In the time line that I get when I double click on rect_mc (timeline of rect_mc) I have written the following code

I want to find out whether my swf was loaded locally or from another swf. For this purpose I have declared a variable 'parentType' in my fla. var parentType:String = String(parent); There is a function in the document class that determines whether swf was loaded locally or from another swf. The name of the function in the document class is 'externalOrInternal'. The varaible parentType is passed as a parameter to the function externalOrInternal externalOrInternal(parentType); The name of the document class is Main. In the constructor of Main I have the function pollResize() (the use of this function is to listen for the resizing event. That part of the code is not shown in the snippet given below).

I see that swfParentType is has value insde the function externalOrInternal. My doubt is why null is traced inside the function pollResize. Why is it not [object Stage] as inside externalOrInternal. Due to this I am not able proceed further with the stage resizing event.What needs to be done so that proper value is traced in the function pollResize.

I have a class, the relevant parts of which are defined as follows:
class myClass extends MovieClip {
public function myfunc() {
trace( "mainVar: " + _root.mainVar );
}
}
As you can see, I want to access the variable "mainVar", which exists in the main movie, from within the class. This works fine, if I have only one instance of the class. But, if I have more than one instance, within separate movie clips, the value of mainVar is always taken from the first instance. How do I refer to the actual instance from within the class?

I'm was getting good with as2 but recently made the mind switch from, I'll learn as3 tomorrow to as3 is awesome. The problem for me is that I don't understand the scope for classes. I know I can trace a variable on the main time line when the var is declared in the class. But how do you access a main time line var from a class? Here's an example - main time line Monkey.fla

I have a dynamic class, which has an array declared normally, before runtime.Usually, you can dynamically access a variable, whether it has been declared or not with
myClass["variable"] = 4;
however, trying to do this with an array, like so
myClass["array[0]"] = 4;
does not store 4 into the first element of array, and instead stores it into the variable "array[0]". For instance, after executing the previous code,
trace(myClass.array[0]);
traces undefined, where as
trace(myClass["array[0]"]);
traces 4.
Is there anyway I can access the elements of the array dynamically?

i am making a few object of action script..,what special about this object is that in the contructor function of this object is that i make it to send a sprite parameter which will act as it's parent..,var anObject:myObject = new myObject(parentSprite);and in my main project i used those object and store it in an array after adding it to the stage.i do store it to an array cause i need to be able to refer back to it..everything was fine up until i need to call function inside that object which i already stored in an array. how should i call the function in that object from an array that stored the object?

In my project I've defined a Point class to build Point objects. I also built a Polygon class with a (private) array property, Points. The polygon class contains a method getPoints() which return the current Points array. My objective is to built one or more Polygon objects and assign several Point objects to the Polygon's Points array. Let's say I've created two Polygon objects, plgPolygon01 and plgPolygon02. To both objects I insert three new Point objects into the Points array.
As I call the plgPolygon01.getPoints() method, i expect to get an array with three values. But when I do this, I get an array with six values. So I conclude: while I was inserting Point objects into the Points array of a Polygon object, this Points array seems to be public instead of private. Otherwise, I'd only get the Points I assigned to the first Polygon object and not all the Points assigned to polygons.

I try to serialize objects with their private attributes, in Flex.
The introspection API does not seem to allow it:
"The describeType() method returns only public members. The method does not return private members of the caller's superclass or any other class where the caller is not an instance."
Is there another way for an instance to know the name of its private members?

I have a class which deals with a lot of visuals, which essentially are movieclips. So I have around 50 privately declared movieclips in the class. Would it be a good idea to put them in a dictionary and retrieve them by their name (as key) , put them in an array or just leave them as they are?
My issue is the visual look of my class right now with that many private members, looks like a mess visually.

I have some code from a CS3 app composed of the .FLA file with an .AS file for the class that had definitions for two private classes in it. Yesterday I brought the files into CS4 and noticed that they did not compile. Gives an 1120, access of undefined property and names a constant. I have reduced this problem down to bare bones and it still occurs, so it is a bug in CS4.
