Here is the sample XML...

I think that you can do this using html but if you have a PDF in your root directory will Flash be able to link to bookmarked pages in that document?

View 2 Repliesim trying to pull .swf files from MySQL by using PHP, ive set everything in the database up with an ID and licked it properly. Im not sure if the 'type' has to be anything special, right now its just a 'VARCHAR' and when altering the javascript part of it that that flash automatically generated-- in the i tried to echo it out by putting it in the value like
< param name="movie" value="<?php echo $row['video_path']; ?>" />
I downloaded a flash spread gallery [URL]which uses a xml file to designate the pics to be used. It is very cool but it is kind of a pain as I have to manually type each pic name in the xml file. Is there a way that I can modify either the xml or the fla to just pull the pics from a folder? Maybe two folders one for the pics and one for the thumbs?
I would like to just dump a bunch of pics in a folder and their thumbs in another and have it automatically just post them.Attached is the fla and the xml (and a .js file) zipped.flashmo_185_spread_gallery.flaflashmo_185_photo_list.zip
Is it possible to embed code into a flash swf that pulls the system date and if it is greater then a hardcoded date, the file will stop playing, quit or abort playing, or just jump to the end of the swf?
View 1 RepliesI have a bit of code here that pulls, at random, 50 images from a file and pushes them into an array. I now need to pull, at random, 350 times from the array. I'm using a timer in place of the for loop to grab the images from the array. My code works fine as long as I do not use an array and I loop the images straight from the file. But that's very slow and bad form. I think I can do everything except the .load of the array. I can't seem to make it work. I'm getting errors that say "#1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference" or "1067: Implicit coercion of a value of type Array to an unrelated type flash.net:URLRequest". I think I get the point of these messages, but I cannot seem to figure out how to pull the URLRequests back out of the array.
var imgLoader:Loader;
var imgSource:URLRequest;
var imgArrayer:Array = new Array();[code]......
Is there any way to pull down the source code for a page using actionscript 3?
For example, it goes to google.com and downloads the source code for it, then stores it in an array or string. Would URLdownloader work?
How could one do this?
We have a couple of tutorials at Untold Entertainment to help you marry Twitter with Flash. Here's how to get Twitter updates into Flash:

I am doing a project that consists of AS3 in flash an importing an external xml data that will populate dynamic data in text fields in my flash project. The xml is all ready set up (pre existing) data. The structure of the XML Code looks like this:
<GlobalDynamicData xmlns:xsi"[URL]">
<schema version 1.0.0>version 1</schemaversion>
<DynamicDataFields>
<DynamicDataField>
<DataField> AlertOn</DataField>
<DataValue>0</DataValue
[Code] .....
which works fine,
My question to everyone is How do tell flash to pull specific dynamic data if all the datafields are exactly the same... I would think all data fields that are named have to be diffrent so when you script the code you are telling flash to go to that data source and pull from that record. If you have the same naming convention how does flash know which one to pull from if they all have the same name..
find the code to pull some simple text from an external website's RSS feed into a basic text box in a Flash movie. It would need to be in AS2 to fit with the website. I understand I need to pull the content via an xml / php page under my own domain in order to get around the Flash security, but I still can't scrape together the right code for it to work.
FLash CS5
Actionscript AS2

I have an XML file using CDATA and trying to pull my image in. Ex:
Code:
<ingredients><![CDATA[<img src="test.jpg" width="304" height="466" align="right" />Ingredients: Water, Carrots, Celery, ....
My text field has all the ingredients it needs in order to pull this image in i.e. multiline, render as html etc.
When I compile my swf I can see that the text moves up and it looks like the image wants to be pulled in and yet it doesn't show.
Things I have tried: Variatons of the file. PNG, JPG, GIF Moved the file into the same folder as the XML file
I've got a weird problem with loading Flashvars into my flash application. I tried to isolate the code and try it in an other document, but the object returned is still empty.This is my HTML code:
<div id="Div1">
<object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" width="630" height="671" id="testApp" align="middle">[code]......
It show begin nicely in the console window of Chrome, but it does not print the flashvars.
I wrote a simple flash loader that loads external swf and then calls javascript function to show div containing flash. I need to pass flashvars to loaded swf. I have read that I just need to use query string when loading to pass variables: externalswf.swf?var1=val1&var2=val2
BUT there is a problem. External swf can be very big and I'd like it to be cached by flash engine. It seems it's impossible in case of url parameters ?var1=&var2=& because those vars often change.Is there other ways to pass vars into inner swf. (I cannot change inner swf and I know only one thing - it use vars passed via flashvars mechanism
My external container isn't able to set FlashVars since I upgraded to Flash version 10.1.53.64. What's the matter ? A simple for loop didn't list anything in the loaderInfo.parameters object (for (var val:String in loaderInfo.parameters)).
It didn't happen with any older Flash version.
Environment:
Windows XP SP3
Container: Excel 2003, set FlashVars through VBA code
Flash ActiveX version 10.1.53.64
I have a video player swf which loads in a flv file via flashvars. This works perfectly, but when it reaches the end it loops ie Goes back to start and plays again. This only happens when it is embedded in a page because when I press cntl+Enter to preview as swf alone it works.

I am trying to create a basic flash player that auto loads a file that is read from a databaseI know that using flashvars is the key, and i think javascript to load, however i am not sure how to startso what is the procedure?what actionscript do i need?what javascript would i need?do i just install the flash vars into the embed?
View 2 RepliesI've got a SWF that collects feedback from users on a website. The questions asked are pulled in as XML, using a URL supplied via flashvars embedded in the page. Unfortunately, this appears to have broken in the latest version of my SWF.[code]Using External Interface.call() to call console.log in the browser outputs null, yet in a previous version (where this code has remained unchanged) it works and outputs the URL as I would expect. I can switch between them see it working on the earlier, then update to the newer one and it outputs null again.
The only change in this newer version of the asset is that I added a symbol and a bit of code to add that to the stage after the XML has been loaded - but that did not in any way change the code getting the URL from the page's HTML.I'm using Flash CS5 and it is an ActionScript 3.0 project.I did read somewhere that this could be done via ExternalInterface would it be more appropriate for a scenario such as this? Is it a viable alternative if for some reason I can't get this to work properly?
I need to retrieve a value in as3 from a html page on a particular event say "mouse-click".We cannot use flashVars as it is obvious that i need the value on a particular event
View 2 RepliesI have a quick question... is there a way to simulate a flashvar while testing an application in the Flash IDE? I know I can export it and test it on a web browser with a container passing the flashvar, but it's so much easier to just do CTRL+Enter :P
Specifically, what I'm doing here is the following: My movie has a lot of things hardcoded... I want it to load the hardcoded parts only if there's a flashvar called "debug" and set to "true". As you may have guessed, I DO NOT want that flashvar to be known to my providers, but I do want to set it on the IDE so everytime I test the code, it enters my debug mode (and so I don't have to change even a bit of code to publish it later)This would be my code:

I have a movie that loads content from an XML file. The path to the file is passed in using flashvars. I am using SWFObject to embed the Flash in a web page. I have a routine that checks for an XML attribute from flashvars and if available passes it to a variable; if no XML attribute then it uses a default. Because I'm having trouble with flashvars I'm also displaying the path in a text box. The code looks like this:

I want to know which is more effective to use in terms of passing values to flashvars.I have a dynamically created XML on the fly that will be assigned to a flashvar.I am planning to assign a whole xmldoc to the flashvar..it basically includes all the tags as in the whole xmlobject..and then i'll use this var to be able to display it on a carousel like image gallery.. Basically the content is all dynamic.Is it more preferrable to accept the XML PATH or the whole XML DOCUMENT for the flashvars?
View 1 RepliesI am trying to take a PHP variable and pass it along to Flash via Flash vars. My end goal is to pass a string formatted as XML to Flash, but because I'm struggling I've stripped everything down to the basics. I'm just trying to pass a simple PHP string variable to Flash via FlashVars with SWFObject but something isn't right. The page won't load when I try to pass the variable inside of php tags, but it will load if I just pass a hard coded string. The basic structure of my page is that I have some PHP declared at the top like so:[code]How do I pass a PHP variable using SWFObject and FlashVars?
View 2 RepliesIs it possible to pass flashvars to standalone flash player via the commandline? Among other reasons, I want to run some unit tests from the command line.
View 2 RepliesI tried many Flash .swf before and they all can be scaled freely -- by using a width and height in the HTML, and sometimes in the URL params or flashvars. But is it true that all Flash object can be scaled? For example, can some Flash objects using absolute coordinates to plot graph so that every 10 pixels it marks 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and no matter what is done at the HTML or any where else, it just won't scale and the browser can't do anything about it either? Is there a way to scale it to half the size for that graph? (that is, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 is separated by 5 pixels instead of 10 pixels)
View 1 RepliesI thought it was a problem with my Try / Catch statement, but in reality my issue is really just trying to do a check in an If / Else statement to see if my Flash player can obtain any data from a flashVar. If flashVar VID = great, Else read from an XML file.Basically this is what I need to have happen:
Check to see if there are flashVar values
If so then load the other Class files and DO NOT get the XML file
If not then run the code in the Catch statement and load the XML file
UPDATED CODE I put a lot of comments to explain what I'm trying to do :(
public function playerLive():void
{
// Attempt to load from HTML EMBED[code]......
I have a flash player embedded on page page.php?user=john using swfobject. The player calls the xml file content.php to get the results. I'm trying to get the user name from the url id. and fetch results based on that. I can get the username on page.php by doing $_GET['user'], but how can i pass that to content.php. Having read allot of articles online, i did the following,I'm embedding the flash on page.php using swfobject like this
<script type="text/javascript">
var flashvars = {user:"<?php $_GET[user] ?>"};
var so = new SWFObject("<?php echo $index->CFG['site']['url'];?>preview2.swf", "sotester",
how can i get values of parameters name1 and name2 in embed tag as following HTML code using AS 3.0 but not using FlashVars (because of i need to suite with all embed code of older version AS 2.0)
HTML Code:
<embed src="http://mydomain.com/myflash.swf?name1=value1&name2=value2" quality="high" bgcolor="#000000" width="320" height="240" name="myflash.swf" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" allowFullScreen="true"
