I am creating a CBT course using Flash CS4 As3. I need to capture progress information from the user as they complete each unit in the course so that the next time they access the course they can pick up where they left off. To do this I need to know how to write and retrieve this information to and from a text file or a cookie so that it can be retrieved re-enters the course.

(The reason that I tried to read proprietary format is I want to utilize their awesome editor. What I actually want to do is, I want to make an iOS game with cocos2d. There is a code to move things around in cocos2d but there is no decent editor. So I'd like to use Flash as an editor, then convert the motion to objective-C cocos2D code by reading the .fla file.)

View 4 RepliesI have two variables that I would like to store in a remote data file which can be accessed by my Flash file. It is for a voting system, so the first variable would be a counter that is incremented each time a user votes, and the second would be the total rating. The average rating would then be calculated from these.
How would one store, retrieve, and then update these variables from the data file?
I can create the system within a single Flash file for a single session, but obviously I'd like multiple users opening the file simultaneously to be able to access the data and update it.
I think it can only access the network but not local file system, but from internet some people said it can in the newest version, can anybody confirm? It can reach arbitrarily file or just a specific location?

We are going to host the video on our domain and the video creates a sol cookie (flash cookie) file to store how far the user has proceeded though the video. So my plan is to access this cookie to see how far the user has progressed and then fire an event when they have finished the movie.
I have been googling for some help but haven't found to much. I have found out that its possible to do in javascript and I have found some .net sol file viewers but haven't seen any examples I can get my mind around.
I have watched the traffic that gets created with fiddler and every time the next button is clicked a new request is fired with the swt file that is being accessed. I would also be happy with tracking every time one of these swt files has been accessed as well.

here is a possible scenario:
User visits my web page A token is generated on the server and stored in the database Token is then saved in LSO User leaves the site (maybe shuts down his computer) and comes back later Token is read, located in the database and the user is recognized (lets say that token is a foreign key that links to other user data stored in the db)

I've inherited a menu bar (www.ensim.com). You can see that when you hover over the buttons (most of them, anyway) you get a drop down with subnav links.
The way they did it was to populate the movie clip with text from an external .txt file, so you could easily add sub links and change urls and stuff. Nifty idea.
The problem is a new url I'm trying to add apparently contains an escape character that it doesn't like. The new url is "/index.asp?page=solutions&sec=voip". When that goes in there, it won't write the link lable (<a href="borked url">This doesn't show up</a>)
Sort of weird, I kind of assumed that, being a plain old txt file, it would just spit it out and move along.
Just wondering if flash is able to do this using a 3rd party app perhaps? Im creating a flash application (closed source), and I want it for others to be able to customize the program in the means of changing text colors by editing the actionscript using an external .as file. Problem is, the external actionscript works, but it will only work when I recompile or republish the fla file in flash.
