I 'm working on my site and I 'm struggling to get to buttons working. It is basically very simple:
[Code]...
Ive been getting a 1009 error when i try to add an event listener to my buttons. no matter what im doing i keep getting this error.
heres my error:
Quote:
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
at bb_fla::MainTimeline/frame57()
heres my as3 code:
ActionScript Code:
stop();
_save.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, saveAll);
function saveAll(event:MouseEvent)
[Code].....
I have this script where the error #1009 appears continually, the stange thing: my script is working correctly and I want to get rib off this error. When my script is "correct", meaning, no more errors appear, the script doesn't work with the external swf. The error target the red "movie01" in the script but this reference was used already with success, why not this one? This script is working but with the error #1009:
var movie02:Loader = new Loader();
movie02.load(new URLRequest("test/seq.swf"));
addChild(movie02);[code]....
I have a button symbol in the Library that I want to use *later* in the movie (i.e. not on frame 1!). When I get to frame 50 in my movie I want to stop the timeline and have the button appear at that point but not before. At the moment there is nothing else in my movie apart from an instance of the button named 'button01' placed at frame 50 on its own layer, a stop action on the timeline at frame 50 and the following code on frame 1[code]...
Is there something I must do to instantiate the button before I can use it later in the movie? I don't want to have to put it on the stage at frame 1 and make it alpha=0 as I saw suggested somewhere else I'd like the button to appear only when I need it.

Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
This is the error I cannot seem to understand. On the stage I have a movie clip, mcTree. It's keyframe is in frame 3143. There is no tween or anything. In frame 3144, I have the following actionscript:
mcTree.gotoAndStop(2);
I publish the movie and I get to frame 3144 then BAM TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
at 2file_fla::MainTimeline/frame3144()
As you can tell, I'm more than 3000 frames into my animation here and have made it this far using this method, and it has worked.
gotoAndPlay function not working, I am getting this runtime error "Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference."I understand its meaning, what is the reference that is null here , even keyframe 3 exists.

I'm trying to create a portfolio website, and I want my picture strip to move in and then become buttons. I have made them buttons, but once the strip stops moving I keep getting this message.
[Code]...
In my 1st frame I have the following action script and it works fine.
cal.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, function(){gotoAndStop( "cal" )});
trucks.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, function(){gotoAndStop( "truck" )});
raven.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, function(){gotoAndStop( "raven" )});
frank.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, function(){gotoAndStop( "fr" )});
[Code].....
I've posted a lot of code below. It still loads / traces fine on frame 1. On other frames only the last two come up in a trace (though they should all be the same). Then when returning to frame 1 they are all null.
I keep getting this message in flash cs4 when I try to actions to the my menu buttons
"TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at Enigma_fla::MainTimeline/frame1()"
[Code]...
Frame 1 on the timeline is empty, so I have no idea what I'm doing wrong.
I am making a webpage for class and i copied all the code from previous projects that i made that worked fine. I made a menu that once you go over the button it starts a 2 motion tweens that end with buttons appearing. i keep getting the message
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
The whole code is this
stop();
back.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER,back1);
function back1(event:MouseEvent):void {
gotoAndPlay("one");}
pump_link.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN,pump_btn);
function pump_btn(event:MouseEvent):void {
MovieClip(parent).gotoAndPlay("pumpkin_frame", "pumpkin");}
I'm trying to make a slide-show that adjusts to the width or height of the stage, and eventually, of the web browser window. I was able to load and resize a picture by writing code on the timeline, but I got the Error #1009 (Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference) when I put this slide show into another movie clip loader (which chooses between different swf pages of the website, with the purpose of keeping the swf file sizes down). By the way, my "slide-show" loads the picture fine. When I use the movie clip loader to load this "slide-show" it works too. Only when I use the Flash Player to open it, it gives me the Error 1009. I looked around on actionscript.org, and everyone seems to be recommending the folowing code (or something like it):[code]
I also ran into some information about document classes and I figure maybe I should be using document classes to make this stuff more modular and reusable. So I put my slide-show code into an .as file, importing all the flash.xxx.* classes, and put it in a package and class and constructor function... in the same directory as my swf file, and set it as the document class to a blank fla file. Then I tested it and all I got was a blank swf. This is without the Event.ADDED_TO_STAGE code. I guess I don't know how to get the document class thingy working either. So my question is, can someone tell me how I can change my slide-show code into a working document class without the Error 1009?r?[code]
I have two Flash projects, an Intro (1 scene) and a Portfolio (5 scenes).I copied all layers from the Intro and created a new scene in the Portfolio file,and pasted the layers. All of my buttons work except for the button that brings me from the end of the Intro, into Portfolio.weirdly enough, this the same button that I use throughout the portfolio to bring me to the "Home" scene.When I remove this button, the error message goes away. Below is the action, and below the action is the error message.
BtnHome_mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, onClick18);function onClick18 (event:MouseEvent)
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at Portfolio_Final_fla::MainTimeline/frame28()
I have a preloader which has this code (simplified):
Code: Select allvar loader:Loader = new Loader();
loader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, loaded);
loader.load(new URLRequest("x.swf"))
function loaded(e:Event):void
{}
And x.swf has this code (very simplified): Code: Select alltrace(stage.stageWidth); When I run preloader, I get this error: TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at x_fla::MainTimeline/frame1()
After clicking to radio buttons i see next error:
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
at fl.controls::RadioButton/drawFocus()
at fl.core::UIComponent/focusInHandler()[code]....
so, if i choose eagle_rb or tails_rb radio button from start i see error.i click to button whit existing choosen answer (gameScreen_mc.eagle_rb.selected = true;) then all working
I've read through several threads about this error, but haven't been able to apply it to figure out my situation... My flash file is an approx 5 second animation. Then, the last keyframe of each layer (frame #133) has a button in it. My flash file should stop on this last key frame, and you should be able to click on any of the 6 buttons to navigate to another html page in my website. Here is the Action Script that I have applied to the frame in which the buttons exist (on a separate layer, see screenshot at: [URL]

Starting new thread for this topic as suggested by forum. I have a website which tweens movieclip pages (named home, bio, music, video and contact). Love the effect and trying to keep it. Main timeline contains the main buttons (home_btn, bio_btn, music btn, video_btn, contact_btn). Music page has a XML mp3 player contained in it with button control. Video page has an encoded video with no code.
I need the following:
1 - Music and video to shut off as those pages/movieclips tween off the stage. Gets annoying with them playing especially at the same time
2 - Music player to play correctly. It is not with the new code.
I have the following code. The "Tween Code" is on frame 1 of the main timeline of the movie. The "MP3 code" is on frame 1 of the music movie clip. I am getting the following ERROR message when running my movie. I ran the Debugger as I publish and it points to music.my_channel.stop(); in below code. My thought process on this was that it would reach out to the music movieclip, find my_channel and stop it.

I have created an invisible button myButton_btn inside a moviclip with instance name supermarket_mc. The supermarket_mc is based on a class Supermarket, which has the following code and works fine.
public class Supermarket extends MovieClip
{
public function Supermarket()[code]....
Now, if I have a button on Stage they work fine when I add a listener to them. However, when I add a listener to myButton_btn ie:
supermarket_mc.myButton_btn .addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, turn);
myButton_btn does not react to click events and I get an additional error Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.I suspect that the MouseEvent.CLICK in the class definition overrides the MouseEvent.CLICK on the nested button.
I am not an expert in flash, but i do work with AS and tweak Flash projects , though not having deep expertise in it. Currently i need to revamp a flash website done by one another guy, and the code base given to me, upon execution is throwing the following error."--- TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null objectreference.atNewSite_fla::MainTimeline/__setProp_ContactOutP1_ContactOut_Contents_ 0() at NewSite_fla::MainTimeline/frame1() --"The structure of the project is like, it has theifferent sections split into different movie clips. There is no single main timeline, but click actions on different areas of seperate movie clips will take them between oneanother.All the AS logic of event handling are written inline in FLA , no seperate Document class exists.
Preloader Movie clip is the first one getting loaded. As i understood the error is getting thrown initially itself, and it is not happening due to any Action script logic written inline, because it is throwing error even before hitting the first inline AS code.I am not able to figure Out what exactly it causing the problem, or where to resolve it. I setup the stuff online, for reference if anybody want to take a look at it, and here is the link.You need to have flash debugger turned ON in your browser, if need to see the exception getting triggered.

I added a flv into my Scene 1 then i added a new Scene.I just wanted to after finishing the .flv flash go to next scene.but when i added a new scene,and I test my movie,the .flv didnt show and i recieved these errors
[Code]...
This is my code,
stop();
button3.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, playClick3);
function playClick3(Event:MouseEvent):void {
gotoAndStop(422);
}
On frame 422 there is no code at the moment. I keep getting the error TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
I've been away for a while and I just started to work on my new portfolio website (in flash). The design is finished and I followed a tutorial on youtube called the ''the fluid flash website to keep your flash website always centered''.The tutorial went good but when I wanted to go to another frame with other contents, an error appeared in the browser saying:
Code:
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
at serrick_port2_fla::MainTimeline/resizeDisplay()
The code for the website is:
Code:
stop();
import flash.events.MouseEvent;
var myStage:Stage = this.stage;
[code].....
when all my script code is in the first frame everything working fine, but when I put some code in second frame, i've got the error:
Code:TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.at khekhe_fla::MainTimeline/frame1()[code]....
in the second frame i've receive the error i wrote about in the beginning. (i click btn_training, script sends me to the second frame, and when i click btn_back i receive the error).
sometimes I get this strange error during gameplay:
Code:
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
[code]...
I still don't know what causes the error. The only thing I discovered is that sometimes an object is null inside of my SoundManager. But I don't know why. I already checked all appropriate arrays if something's missing there but all seems to be ok there.

I am trying to use the scroll pane component and I am having a few teething troubles. I have a scroll pane as a child object of a movie clip which is essentially a 'page', if I display this page it works fine and the scroll pane does too. If I then remove this page from the display list, go to another page and come back by readding it to the display list, I get the following error, even though nothing else has changed:
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.at fl.containers::ScrollPane/fl.containers:ScrollPane::endDrag()
The scroll pane is still visible and works correctly, but ideally I'd like to stop this error.
I'm creating a simple gallery for a website which literally loads the next image when the image is clicked. I've set it up so that the images fade in. When i preview the .swf file in flash i get the below message:TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.atOutside_Portrait_fla::MainTimeline/fl_FadeSymbolIn_12()Everything seems to work ok, but im wondering if this is going to cause any problems. I've copied in the action script text which i have used below.
stop()
/btn1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, fl_ClickToGoToAndStopAtFrame_9);
function fl_ClickToGoToAndStopAtFrame_9(event:MouseEvent):v oid
[code]....
I'm trying to set up a contact form but I get a #1009 error. I read somewhere that it has to do with false targeting but I can't find my error(s). Please help.

I have code on the first frame of timeline and code in a class file and when publishing I get Error 1046: Type was not found or was not a compile-time constant: MouseEvent. This error gets thrown on the frames where I have buttons and their corresponding MouseEvent code, thus the MouseEvent error I suppose.Although I don't know how to fix it, I tried adding import flash.events.*; to the first frame's code, which resolved the Error 1046, but then caused Error 1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference pointing to line 29 of the class file which states container.addChild(btn); - the last item in the class file below.Each set of code works fine by itself, but when used together causes a problem. Can someone assist with what I need to change? I suppose there is some sort of conflict with the MouseEvents?
Code on the first frame:
ActionScript Code:
stop();
//tried adding import flash.events.*; but it caused Error 1046
I_acknowledge_btn.visible = false;[code].....
Further to my earlier posts about identifying and manipulating clips and subclips created in a for loop, I'm sure I'm still not using the best methods of identifying any given clip or it's nested subclip. The following works, but I understand that naming clips and using getChildByName are not best practice.
However it seems to me that using getChildAt could be cumbersome to keep track of, particularly if clips were to be added, removed or swapped during the course of the program.
I expected that clipArray[2].weeBox would have been sufficient to target that subClip in the object referenced in the third slot in that array, but that's clearly not the case. Is this it, or is there a better approach?
