Nov 30, 2004Once, I wanted to make a large RPG-game. I wanted it to be like Zelda, Diablo2 style of RPG with much Hack-and-Slash but also a little quests and a big world to explore. (a BIG game). A game needs to be programmed, so I had to choose a programming language. I chose Flash, because its easy to make graphics in it, and its not that hard, I thought. The game was planned to be a stand-alone-application that you could have on your computer and play whenever you wanted to. Much like any other game. But, this was not something I thought of in the beginning, games you make in Flash usually is web-games, right? But this RPG I wanted to make was not an online-game, and I didn't want it to be either, because it would be to big to download everytime you wanted to play it.
A RPG-game needs a save game/load game function. But Flash cannot write to external files! This was terrible! Now, its a great safety protection to make flash files not write bad things into your computer. But I need it in order to save my games! There is this way, that flash can load variables from external text files. But is there some way that I dont know about to make it save there to? One way is to make the player manually copy a mass of code (variables) from a window in the game, into the textfile. Any way to write from flash to a textfile?
I know these other two ways of "saving".
1. Using cookies to save and load.
2. Using an online database of some sort to store/load variables.
But they're for online flash applications only... So I'd rather not use them.
Professional :: FLV Marks Start A Event In The Site
Nov 14, 2010I working with my new website where I want to show a FLV movie.Next to the movie, I have a text box that will have a new text at certain times.I want some kind of marker in the film to trigger the change.I use Aftereffets to make the movie and know that in the program I can set layer marks in timeline. But how should I do so Dreamweaver or similar software detect such marker.

Aug 2, 2010In the past I have used PPro CS4 and Encore to create a DVD of clips which I show to clients. Each clip has a chapter mark so that I can jump quickly to the start of each clip. I now want to make a big Flash file of all the clips, with chapter marks which I can quickly jump to. But when I create the file from PPro, I get all the clips in one nice big file, but with no chapter marks. If I create it from Encore, it cuts the file into lots of little Flash files, the cutting points being the chapter marks. How can I create one big Flash file consisting of all the little clips, but with chapter marks which I can jump to?

Mar 4, 2011I hope I am in the right forum with my question - I am playing at [URL}.. and there is a Flash Application for Live Games - Link "Live" at the website.
My problem is that I can't open the Flash games because I if I click at "Live" in the main navigation nothing happens!!!
Other flash applications at other websites I can't open or see without problems - I really don't know what the problem is.
Professional :: Save CS4 Documents In CS5 Without Save As Dialog?
May 7, 2011At my college, they have CS4 (master suite) and at home I've got CS5 (design premium). I can save files in CS5 as CS4 so they can be read at college (by Flash) but I have to do it via the "save as" every time I save. After a couple of times, it get rather irritating. Is it possible for me to save in the usual way (as if it was a CS5 document) without the save as dialog every time I save my work?

Dec 17, 2010I was wondering if its possible to automate games and apps that have been written in flash.
For example.
Suppose a simple card game was written in flash. To automate it I would need to
-read all of the values of all labels on the screen. -figure out the location and identity of active objects like buttons and text boxes.
I suppose these values could be passed to some kind of executable flile running outside the browser which would then move the mouse and click the buttons as desired.
Mabey there is a better way of doing this ?
I tried running flash apps in Firefox with firebug and fireflash installed to see if I could see what was going on inside the flash files. It didn't work. Mabey debugging has to be enable inside the files themselves which is no use if they are owned by somebody else.
Is it possible to automate a gmae somebody else has written in flash ?

The second one will contain the first game. The third one will contain the second game. The last keyframe will contain the scoresEach game contains a movieclip that is being controlled by a main class that I wrote using as3.0. Jun 20, 2011When I played Pogo Payday Freecell, if I'd right-click on a hidden card it would show that card. Now (on Flash 10.3) if I right click I get a pull down menu with show card - press space bar, Global setting and Adobe written.
I've also noticed on a number of other sites that right click now bring up this pul down menu with Adobe written on the bottom. How can I change the settings so they work like they used to?
Professional :: Screen Scrolls In Games With Arrow Keys?
Mar 13, 2010I can't lock the screen or whatever you want to call it. If the game requires the arrow keys to move the character, it scrolls the screen until they can't see the game. I have tried to click on the flash player game window but it still scrolls to the bottom of the page when you pich the arrow keys.

Sep 21, 2011I downloaded the trial version so I could work on the final project for class but for some reason when I tried to save it my computer froze up. Is this because the save feature is turned off for the trial version or was it just my computer? If I can't save using the trial version than I wasted memory on my computer and a lot of my time downloading the trial version that isn't going to be very useful to me.

Jan 22, 2011I play games on Pogo and have never had a problem with their Flash Games until released Daily Hot Shots. It doesn't load fully and I've done EVERYTHING I know to do to get it to play. No errors show up. I can play ALL the other flash games but this one. When I right click, the name of the site's owners do not show up....I have the settings showing though Not all of the game loads and that's the problem. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling....tried a different browser and have the same exact problem. THIS GAME WILL NOT PLAY.

Mar 21, 2010I am pulling a .txt document into a flash swf. The accent marks are in the txt doc but when it pulls into the swf and viewed in the browser they are missing. Txt doc loads fine with no errors but characters with accent marks are just missing.

Actionscript 3 :: Use A Flashvar That Contains Quotes And Other Marks?
Jan 12, 2011Is there something I can do to make it so that a flashvar can contain any sort of punctuation and not break the html code? Like some sort of encompassing brackets or something? Right now if I try to include some long strings that have quote marks or other characters that could have some sort of meaning in the code, then it tends to interpret it as code rather than a string. Anything I can do?

var array1 = new Array();
array1[0] = "1";
array1[1] = "7";
I know that these are in string format, but this is necessary for the whole code (i think!) but I want to be add these to values together, to get the value of 8, however if you do:
var answer = array1[0] + array1[1];
Then it just joins the 2 values to give 17, however if you times them, it treats it like a number.Is it possible to add them to get the value of 8 in another way without having to remove the speech marks from the array value?

Whenever I have an error in an actionscript file, it shows nothing in the "Flex Errors" section of Markers but when I open the file that has the error it shows a question mark next to the line where the error actually is.Is there a way to show these questions marks in the markers section of Eclipse?
