Programming Language / Tool For Web-based Visio-like Drawing As Applied To Product Configurator
Jul 28, 2010
I have extensive experience with MS Visio Solution development, and have a need to provide similar functionality in a web interface in the context of a heavily visual product-builder or "configurator". Visio functionality that I hope to reproduce:Visual shapes stored in a sidebar, from which the user drags and drops onto a drawing area Shape creation on the user's end is probably not necessary... just arrangement, sizing, changing parameters etc.A back-end for extracting the parts the user has dropped onto the drawing area, including the parameters they've changed, dimensions, relations between components etc.In the most general sense, I just need an interactive interface.Given the above parameters, is Flash a good option? Is there a development environment that might be better?
I have to make a productconfigurator for a client, something like a car configurator you see on their sites.Is there anyone with experience in this area? Wich is the best approach? Put every possibility in a database?
i want to create product comparison site expecting good no of user hits (100 + concurrent users) i am from dot net background(LOB Application),i haven't done much research for good programming platform for such user oriented website with some user generated content , i have following options
1: c# asp.net Ajax 2: silver light 3: php 4: flex/flash 5: ruby,python,java 6: any other language
database Sql Server/My Sql/Oracle/ any other. i want to deploy it on cloud,i want good user experience, can compromise on seo,site need to be scalable for lots of contents added later.
I haven't programmed in a while, and have kind of lost interest, but I want to get back, and I've enjoyed C# the most, a lot more than objective-c and visual basic. So I want to make some games that me and my friends will be able to play next school year. So basically something you can play on the web.
What programming languages deploy to the web?If c# is possible, and a mac with safari/firefox would be able to use it (I can't install plugins, and I don't want to get in trouble for making myself admin again)Flash, Java, etc. If java does, I'd like that most since it's most like c#. Then what libraries/engines would I use? I want to do 2d. And then what IDE would I use?
Poony Script is a new programming language for Web, working with proxies between Flash Player and ActionScript 3, and a powerful performance and high flexibility of development, in addition to being free and unrestricted.URL...
I just discovered impure.com and was very impressed by what can be achieved in terms of visualizing data using their workspace. Although the platform is free to use, but not open source yet. This causes a few problems because the API section works with .com sites for eg. for ebay, so I cannot visualize ebay listings for regional sites such as ebay.in because the link to ebay.com is hardcoded.I searched around, but didn't find other projects that offer a similar way to work with site APIs and other data sources with the kind of user interface and detail that impure.com does in a realtime way within a browser window.This brings me to the questions:
-What technologies would be involved in creating a similar kind of project
-What are the open source tools that can help develop a fullscreen UI to render the workspace. Are there any alternatives to flash for this, and how do they compare
The goal would be to use standard python data structures, python scripts to do some processing on these data structures, scripts to gather data from csv, json and API sources such as google yahoo, wikipedia and flickr, and scripts to render graphs, tag clouds, network visualizations etc. Then bring them all together into a visual interface that supports drag drop and simple type checking.How would the python backend integrate with the UI.
I need to create a web product catalog for about 200 items. I am doing this as part of subsite for a large company and long-story short, I need to make this site self contained, without relying on any assistance from their IT department (so no MYSQL, etc.).They already have a catalog of thousands of products, but the purpose of this subsite is to highlight products to a particular market.The catalog would need to have the ability to create a hierarchy, and basic product information (name, description, image, sku number) and an interface for easy updates. No ordering.
Im trying to convert a flash binary-decimal converter to another programming language (TI-Basic). I've got all of it down except one key part. I've got a solid backing of actionscript understanding but find myself unable to understand the following statement:
if (iNumber%2) { bin = "1"+bin; } from this tutorial
I realize that inumber%2 will return a value being the remainder of inumber divided by 2, but how can this be a conditional? "if (2) { }" doesn't work for conditonals im used to. Or if your a TI-Basic wiz
p.s. how do you wrap actionscript tags around content in a post on the forum?
Actionscript 3 and am trying to make sub-titles for my video based application.I have managed to get the English subtitles for the same. However, I was wondering as to how the same could be implemented for other languages which do not have same font as English words?
In Flash you have the option to embed only certain unicode blocks of selected font. Those characters will then be available in your project.Which unicode block is needed to display certain latin-based language? It's obvious in cases like Greek or Hebrew but what latin extension do I need for German, Danish or Czech language?
I'm having a hard time with strokes. First I selected a stroke and the properties panel would not let me change it's thickness. How to add a stroke to an object. We used to have a tool that allowed us to apply a stroke to an object. That is gone now. How we attach a line to an object now?? It looks like Adobe has changed Flash CS4 to be more like Photoshop. It is about as intuitive as a tax form.
I come across a problem when i follow the book "classroom in a book series" the Flash CS4 one (Red cover book) Chapter 2 Q.1 I try to draw straight lines or curves but i found i still cannot manage how to use PEN TOOL How can i draw straight line? Also how can i draw absolute vertical or horizontal line with some special combination key like CTRL or SHIFT i tried guessing SHIFT or CTRL while using PEN TOOL but no help
How can i draw curve? i know it depends somehow on whether i hold my click for a new anchor point? Any tutorial which is clear and easy for new comer for fully understanding for PEN TOOL.(Currently i try reading pdf reference from ADOBE Web site and google search but did not make myself understand.)
Q.2 I cannot use bucket filling a shape draw by PEN TOOL(i already search google sites but cannot find one with satisfied causes for this FILLING Problems) like the image shown below(Please click to enlarge this PRINTSCREEN) Tools i used are PEN TOOL drawing a shape first then a BUCKET for filling color.
I have a requirement to create a drawing tool. I have completed till where on mouse down i can draw and on mouse up i stop the drawing. Now i want a eraser in place; something very similar to what is there in paint. So on mouse down of the eraser and moving over the line segment should erase the portion of the lines.
right now i can create a straight line from mouse down to mouse up. what i cant quite get is a preview of that line. does anyone know of a simple way to show a preview of the line while the mouse is still down and the user is moving the mouse?what i have now:
Code: var clip:Shape = new Shape(); addChild(clip);[code]......
Is it possible to draw a strokeless shape with the pen tool (as in Illustrator)? It is quite tedious to have to go back and remove strokes from my shapes.... especially since I can't see how to do it without clicking on each segment and hitting "delete"!
bit of a noob at flash, so I've been having a bit of a difficulty in using the pencil/brush tool in drawing an animation. I set a keyframe, and paint a yellow stroke. Then i continue onto the next key. I then go back to the first keyframe, and want to paint a black stroke over part of the yellow stroke i made earlier.
after selecting this first frame (making the layer active), I go to change the stroke color of the brush to black but find that it now changes my yellow stroke (which I want to keep yellow) to black. I see that in selecting the frame, by default whatever strokes were made on this frame are also selected (which I don't want). So I'd like to know how do I avoid altering my previous stroke and still put a different colored stroke overlapping it on the same frame?
also is it possible to append a brush/pencil stroke to an old brush/pencil stroke?
I have downloaded the trial version of Adobe Executive Suite CS5. In the Flash Professional CS5 program I am trying to do a drawing with the pencil tool. In the old version of Flash that I have (4.0) if I draw two lines that overlap, I can delete the line past the point where they cross. In this version I can't do that.It treats each line I draw as a separate item and won't combine them. I notice the properties panel says I am in Object mode which would be the reason. However I can't get it to go to merge mode, which is supposed to be the default.Is this because it's the trial version and not all features work in that version? My email address is[url].... and I can be phoned at 541 782-5904 (Oregon).
I am attempting to build a tool which creates a graph through data drawn from a MySQL database, however the .swf doesn't seem to accept the xml sheet that is created by the PHP. I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on this?
Is there a way in as3 to manually call one of the preset line stroke styles? I'm going to be drawing a line in as3 and want to use one of the stroke styles given in the pull down menu (6th down actually) in the line drawing tool in the gui.
Right now I can create a straight line from mouse down to mouse up. What I can't quite get is a preview of that line. does anyone know of a simple way to show a preview of the line while the mouse is still down and the user is moving the mouse?
What I have now: Code: var clip:Shape = new Shape(); addChild(clip); stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, startLine); stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP, drawLine); function startLine(evt:MouseEvent) { clip.graphics.moveTo(mouseX, mouseY); } function drawLine(evt:MouseEvent) { clip.graphics.lineTo(mouseX, mouseY); clip.graphics.lineStyle(1, 0xff9933); }
I want to display text which can be circled/marked over by the user. Also the user must be able to print/erase and move on to a new swf file once the page has been printed off. I have looked at a few different options but as yet I have been unsuccessful with the functionality.
Is there a way in as3 to manually call one of the preset line stroke styles? I need to call one of the stroke styles given in the pull down menu (6th down actually) in the line drawing tool. I.E. I'd like to be able to draw the exact same line via manual calls in as3 that I can draw with the line took in the GUI.
i'm a newbie using Flash CS4 and AS3. A retired social worker, I need to create a basic Flash drawing tool for an eLearning project to teach students how to draw their family tree.
The drawing tool would allow the students to add multiple circles and squares to symbolize their family members, plus text labels for names, ages, and they would need to be able to draw connecting lines between the circle and square symbols. Finally, in order to continue work on the drawing, over time, they would need to be able to save their drawings to be re-opened and edited (add new symbols, erase incorrect ones, etc.). Once the drawing is completed, they would need to be able to print a copy.
Being a newbie (but I have done some related scripting: JavaScripting-ECMA-262, HTML, CSS), I am not sure if this can be done in AS3, Flash CS4. But, if it is possible, I would like to learn how to create this.
I draw a shape with the pen or line tool. If i did not draw it perfectly connecting the dots, i cannot fill it with the paint buck fill tool. How can you tell it to just close the structure
I am creating an application that will allow users to model system information by allowing them to Drag and Drop objects from a Flex Tree into some sort of canvas/grid ie: like a whiteboard application eg: Visio/MS Powerpoint etc. The application requires the following functionality:
Drag and drop items from a Tree to some sort of canvas/grid Move items within the canvas/grid Delete items from the canvas/grid Resize items in the canvas/grid Save the position of the items to a database Has good performance in terms of rendering components with images I am not sure which Flex component is best suited to the canvas/grid. I was thinking of using either:
Datagrid or (can't drag/drop to cells easily though) Grid or (can drop to cells via gridrow/griditems mxml tags) TileList or (problem with this is that it rearranges all items when you move 1 item) some other list? I think the grid would suite my purposes the best as it would enforce objects to be placed within a gridrow/griditem.
I am in the process of learning AS 3 and Flash on my own and currently using the Actionscript 3.0 Adobe Classroom in a book CS4 version. Having a problem with the Lesson Adendum if anyone has done it. This lession requires you to create two buttons. They both draw shapes on the stage. When one is clicked, it draws Rectangles on the stage following the mouse movement. When the other is clicked, it draws Ellipses instead. The problem I am having is that it just draws rectangles and not ellipses when the 2nd button is clicked. Would be greatful if someone could tell me what i am doirng wrong. Here is the code that I have so far. Apologize for the commented out code, I left it in to show what I have tried:
I'm trying to draw a curve based on 24 data points. I want to draw a curved line based on the average of these 24 points. I can draw a line from point to point no problem, but would like a smooth curve. The white dashed line is what I'm trying to achieve:
