View 1 RepliesI am using alivePDF to generate pdfs from my flex application. When I click on the save pdf button on my flex application, a "save as" window pops up which allows me to browse to the location where I want to save the pdf file. Its the same window that pops up when we try to save any file in notepad, word, etc. I want to programatically close this window if the user is idle for a given amount of time. The code that I am using for saving the pdf is as follows.
var file:FileReference = new FileReference();
var genPdf:PDF = new PDF();
genPdf = generatePDF(target, generateXML,str);
file.save(genPdf.save(Method.LOCAL), 'graph.pdf');
*let say i have a mc called A. it can call a MC with an instance name called window_btn.window can be drag and double click.i want to put a close button in the window MC to close the window.

I would like to know the correct way to close an AIR application programmatically. In my Spark WindowedApplication I have:this.addEventListener( Event.CLOSING, shutdownApp );and of course an implementation of the shutdownApp method (which basically tidies up temporary files).his works fine for the top-right close button of the window. However I also have functionality which needs to shutdown the application. Within the code I have called:NativeApplication.nativeApplication.exit();However this doesn't trigger the Event.CLOSING method, and so my temporary files are not cleared up. Should I not be calling nativeApplication.exit ? If so, what should I call instead? I'd rather not have to call my shutdownApp method before the NativeApplication.exit() as this doesn't feel quite so elegant.
View 2 RepliesIs there a way to programmatically close an open file dialog?
My current problem is this: I have a small file download program. When the user clicks a button, it will pop-up the Save As dialog. The problem is, if the user closes the Firefox window, the dialog stays open. And when the user wants to close that dialog, he or she can't anymore. It won't respond. The only way is to kill the plugin process (on Linux anyway).
So is there a way to monitor opened file dialogs?
I've tried to get the browser to notify the Flash app that it's closing, which works great. The problem is even if the app knows it should close the file dialog, it can't...I've tried setting the FileReference to null, using delete on it, calling the garbage collector, etc., nothing seems to have any control on that dialog.
I created a Flash application that reads POST data from a form. A user clicks the button, and the data gets posted to the flash app in a new window (_blank). Now takes the data and then spins a wheel to give users a prize. If they don't win a message pops up letting them know they didn't win. If they don't win, clicking the OK button needs to close the browser window.
I've tried a number of solutions and it seems that the only way to get this done is to launch the window with javascript and then use ExternalInterface.call('window.close'); to close the window from within the Flash actionscript (3) because otherwise the window won't close (I've tried just using window.close and window.close() with no luck)
I understand how to launch a new window with javascript, but I don't know how to simultaneously launch and POST data to that window (the Flash application has to have the POST data. Is this the best solution? Is there a way to close a browser window easier than what I'm describing?[URL]
I'm trying to create a pop up window in Flash which also fades the background window to 75% black. When the user closes the pop up window, I'd like for the parent window to un-fade back to normal. Is this possible? I can do the first half of it and make the background window fade to 75% black. The difficult thing is making it fade back to normal when the user closes the pop up window.My thoughts are that I need to attach some code to the browser's built in close window button. It might require some javascript or a fscommand. I'm not sure.

View 9 RepliesACTUALLY i just thought of another one so now i have two. sorry. hope you don't mind. i get sidetracked rather easily. before i start, a quick nota bene. i'm a complete newcomer to flash so my questions are very simpleminded. not much of a challenge i'm afraid.

When embedding fonts programmatically, (example here), is it possible to specify certain characters as you might if embedding within the Flash IDE?Here is my code so far, which simply embeds the font. It works, but I am assuming that it is embedding an entire character set.
Code:
package
{
import flash.display.MovieClip;
import flash.text.AntiAliasType;
[code]....
How do you set the position of an AS3 AIR Project window programmatically?It is simple to do with application descriptor, but I cannot get it to work through code.All research has lead me to stage.nativeWindow.x = 200; but this does not do anything for me.
The following has no effect:
public function Main():void
{
[code].....
I'm using a dateField component (with editable = true) as an itemEditor in a dataGrid. Interestingly, when editing the textInput part of the dateField it doesn't seem to react to an ESC keydown as I would expect, i.e. reload old dateField value and give up focus. This seems to be standard for most other components, but not for as most other components do.
How would you go about implementing such behavior? I can listen to keydown == escape on the TextInput portion, but just realized that I don't know how to tell dateField to give up focus and politely close - in fact I'm not even sure that's the right strategy (maybe I should work at the DataGrid level?
Does anyone know the syntax for closing a swf window using a button, similar to closing a popup window? I am creating a small game, and am giving the user the option to "play again" or "quit" at the end of the game, so i want the quit button(standard library on(press)) to close the swf file.
View 2 RepliesI have an .exe with a button that opens an outside .swf. I want to include a close button on that .swf that closes just that outside movie. I tried:
on (release) {
fscommand("quit");
}
But that closed the whole exe.

If so, how do you do this?
Why does Flash CS5 quit when you close the window you were working in? It has to restart every time you close and open a file.
