How do you capture errors that happen on client side when building RIA apps using Flex and Silverlight? What are the common practices? I have seen some asynch js calls to a web service implemented but would like to know how the community is dealing with it.

- At client side: Display a list of images, when user click on one image, data will be stored in MySQL database.
- At server side: Manage images used in client side, I can delete, add new images.
Is this possible for me to achieve this using Flex? And if it is able, will my output be 2 separate SWF files? And where can I find the materials to read on writing such applications?
I want to download files from the server side to client side without prompting a window to the user to download when any updates happen at server side.Right now I am using urlstream class but first file is downloading completely rest of the files contents downloading partially.

User interacts with Adobe flex webpage to configure reports based on some data stored server side. They configure their view and have THAT view emailed to them daily. I've got the report builder, the part I'm trying to figure out is how to render the report server side and send it out as email (native flex functionality? convert to html? take screenshot? assume something is running client side?...)

1. Resizing (solved)
2. Converting resized image (represented by ByteArray in PNG32 with alpha-channel) to gray-scale PNG with bit-depth = 2 and no color-palette. Is there any existing library that is capable of second step? Something like libpng for C++, maybe?Edit:It seem I stumbled upon rarely encountered problem. However my descision was to create an AS3 class that is capable of converting bitmapData to 2bit grayscale PNG. I used standart PNGEncoder and PNG format specification (which is not so good as I expected) as basis.
I am making an app where people upload a bunch of images and it thumbnails them and saves them to the server. Is it better to create thumbnails from the uploaded images, or to upload them to the server then re-download the thumbnails?

Using RecursiveDirectoryIterator of PHP i am able to create directory tree and can even flatten it using RecursiveIteratorIterator class , but I want to create directory tree structure which TREE component of flex understands . The following is an array structure in php which flex understands.

I am developing an application that includes JPG and TIFF image size validation. The backend is done is done in PHP. I am wondering if there is anyway to validate the minimum width and height of those images in Flex or if they have to be uploaded to PHP and validated there.

We are trying to create a sqlite db file using java on the server, and encrypt it.Then we send the encrypted db file to a client's pc, which has an Adobe Air desktop app running.The air app then needs to be able to open/read-from the encrypted db file (client is read-only).We are using java 1.6, flex/actionscript 4.5, and Air 3.1.We can create the sqlite db file on the server and send it to the client, and it can be read by the client without issues, when we do not encrypt it.But we are having trouble with the encryption part. We've read quite a lot of documentation about Actionscript's ability to open encrypted sqlite files using AES + CCM (URL...).And we're trying to use java's crypto package to encrypt the sqlite db file.The encryption is important because we don't want the client to be able to open the sqlite db file with any sqlite browser, only with our Air application.

before i begin, i should mention my actionscript skills are about a 5/10. that being said, if you point me in the right direction, i should be able to figure it out.
is there a way of capturing actionscript errors in a window.onerror like fashion?
i already have an amf based logging system setup, both the sending and recieving end are working 100%. so getting the message to the server is taken care of. just need to know if its possible to capture the errors.

I'm using AS3 in timeline. I have a three page movieclip (dynamic_mc). Each page is labeled p1..p3. On p1 I have an input text box named userName and button named next_1. On p2 I have a dynamic text box named greetings_1, an input text field named schoolName and two buttons (back1 and next2).On p3 I have another dynamic text box named greetings_2 and two buttons (back_2 and next_3).
On p1 user enters name, which is captured on p2. Once a click next button on p1, I get this error:

View 1 RepliesI'm building a server-side API and client-side library for a JavaScript-based game where two very important features must be secured. A user must be debited for each play We must ensure that the score that gets submitted is the actual earned score by the player. Solving the first problem seems simple; at the beginning of each play we hit the API, debit the user's account and return a unique Play ID. When we submit the user's score for that play, we pass the ID issued at the beginning.
The second one has me a little stumped. Initially I considered a client-side hashing algorithm based on the ID and the score, but quickly realized that the Javascript that produces the hash could easily be reverse-engineered, even if it was obfuscated. At this point I considered a small flash component that generates the hash, but I've heard that even compiled flash can be decompiled.

Is there a way to validate these field(s) on the client-side, such as with jQuery or JavaScript, prior to submission? I am comfortable with doing the server-side validation, such as with PHP.
