View 1 Repliesi'm trying to create a unordered list in Flex. My issue is that within each line, i want the word NEW to be a different font color and different font size from the rest of the label text. I am unsure of how to do this INLINE within the label component.

<s:Label text="u2022 NEW Invite your friends!" />
<s:Label text="u2022 NEW Features coming soon!" />

I am creating an Adobe Flex application for the Blackberry Playbook. I was wondering if there is a way where the user can click a button (for example) to increase or decrease all font sizes across the entire application?

Can we change the width of the datagrid column dynamically by clicking on the border of the column in order to display the complete string which is too long to be displayed and needs to be scrolled ? If so, How ?
Also, how can we ensure that the column width changes dynamically based on the number of characters / length of string; since many a times the data is too long to be displayed. Can we set the column width to take the length of data into consideration before displaying onto the datagrid ?
It seems like there are various hacks out there to change the background colour of the row of a datagrid but all of them seem to happen at render time.See: http:[url]....I have a datagrid where I need to change row colours to red then back to normal frequently based on changes to the bound ArrayCollection. So I'm looking for a way to change the row colours dynamically.Obviously as the changes are happening frequently it would be nice if changing the background colour of the row wasn't an expensive process.

View 2 Repliesvar tfNum_mc:MovieClip = tl.attachMovie("tfID","tfNum_mc_",tl.getNextHighestDepth());
If I'm to assign the above code to a dragDrop action. Is there a way to change the font size of tfNum_mc_.tf? I've tried;
tfNum_mc_.tf.size = 12;//did not work
var format1:TextFormat( = new TextFormat();
format1_fmt.size = 12;
tfNum_mc_.tf.setNewTextFormat(format1);//did not work
I am using a singleton class (popup, which means it doesn't forget the last used variables) which contains a datagrid. I am making various columns visible/invisible, setting the widths and headers in accordance to data received from a database call. Everything works fine except that when I put the breakpoints before and after the point where I change width of columns, I do not see the change in width of datagrid at all! Instead I see some values totally out of sync as widths of datagrid column! However, since it is a singleton class, the next time I call this popup, I see widths which I did set up in last call.
I must be messing up in calling the setWidth() function (which is my custom function which changes the width of datagrid in action script). What should be the point where I should call this function? I tried in creationComplete, show and in the setter of dataprovider.
I seem to have trouble setting the font size of the text of a legend item when the font family is set to Courier.
legendItem.setStyle("fontFamily", "Courier");
legendItem.setStyle("fontSize", 7);
doesn't work.

I know how to adjust the whole text box size using auto size, but I haven't found an easy answer for merely adjusting the size of the font.
The Textbox size won't change, but sometimes a word will be long and other times short. Now I have a small font that looks silly when the word is small and doesn't fit when the word is big.
I have a static area that I'd like to fill completely with text regardless of whether the text is 30 characters or 2 characters. More specifically the user has to find a certain number of any given letter before moving on in the game and I'd like their progress to be displayed in this static area.
So first I tried scaling the TextField but the text inside stays the same size.
Then I tried putting the TextField inside a MovieClip, turning on autoSize, then scaling the MovieClip but that distorts the text too much because autoSize doesn't retain the original proportions of the TextField.
This makes me think that the best solution would involve dynamically changing the size of the font to fit all of the characters inside a given area.
is there a way by which i could change the font and colour of a dynamic text,during run time.
View 7 RepliesIn my movie, I have a dynamic textfield on the timeline starting the first frame and going to the end. At various points during the movie, I change the text in the textfield (and that works just fine), but I also want to change the font-size when I do that. I've tried using setTextFormat to a different TextFormat object, but that doesn't seem to work. Maybe someone has a better idea?

I'm using Flash CS5 and AS3. I've made a form using the library's "User Interface" object and I want to change the font size for the TextInput and TextArea fields but I can't find any option in their properties to change it.
I've tried this code
var myTextFormat: TextFormat = new TextFormat();myTextFormat.size = 14;email_txt.setStyle("textFormat", myTextFormat);
even though I don't get any error while publishing, my page doesn't appear, if I remove this code the page comes back to work.

how to change the action script in the "buttons" movie clip to present more like a button by enabling a change color with a rollover. workaround to accommodate a change of font size as well?
I'm assuming it would utilize the setTextFormat command, but I'm so new to this that I'm not really sure how to set it up.
Here's the original work-around posted by bozeman.
this.deepLink = '/clinic/';
this.onRelease = _parent.btnRelease;

I'm in the midst of the very honorable job of adding localization support for all kinds of languages. This would not be a problem if the main font we use would support asian and russian symbols.
After some nosing around I found a substitution font that has support for asian and russian symbols. However this substitution font isn't spaced in the same way as our original font. If I just replace the old font for the new font then all the text will be misaligned, too big and also lowered quite a bit.
What I'd like to do is when a textfield is loaded I check for what language is chosen and scale/resize/reposition the textfields accordingly.
I have made a UI control which contains a bunch of TextFields representing the members of an Array. I draw these un a list like in a combo box's drop down. Currently I hard code the height of the TextFields, iterate through the Array and position the TextFields by adding the hard coded height each time. Simple enough.
But now I would like to put the control in another place where I must use smaller text. So I would like to make the thing general so I can resuse it whenever I want, simply by applying a new TextFormat. My problem is that I want to still be able to position the TextFields accurately regardless of the font size used in the TextFormat. I have tried just creating the TextField, applying the TextFormat, setting the text, and then trying to read the TextField's height, but alas this does not work.
what the best way is to find each TextField's height so that I can build my list?
How do I change the font/font-size of the dropdown in a ComboBox?I know how to change the edit field but not the dropdown!

Not sure where to place this code in the script below.(inserting it causes font to initially to be correct size of 20 but changes back to default when a mouse click is issued)[code]...
I don't know how to change the font size. Here's my action script code:
submit_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, sendMessage);
function sendMessage(e:MouseEvent):void{
var my_vars:URLVariables = new URLVariables();
my_vars.senderName = name_txt.text;
[code]....
Do I need to add something to my action script to modify the text size? If so, what? Or do I modify the text size through other means?
the idea it's to have a textfield of 200px width where the username gets loaded. The thing is that i need the font size to be as big as possible to fit in that textfield. So if the username is shorter the font size should increase if the username is longer the font size should decrease. So I am guessing i should be counting character and knowing how big each character is and then according to that make a mad algorithm to set the font size to make the text fit.
