I wanted to know how can you upload a mpeg, avi, or wmw to a website and convert it to a flash video file? What software is involved? What is the easiest method for doing this? Is there a tut out there or a book that details this method?

View 5 RepliesI'm building a little AIR app using AS3 that includes the ability for a user to import and view a video file. I've got this working for .flv files (using NetStream), but would like to expand this option for the user and give them the abillity to import a mpeg if they wanted to.
Ideally, i don't want the user to have to download and install another program in order to convert the mpeg to a flv (just because it is more hassle for them); I'd would be so much nicer if the AS3 code could somehow trigger the conversion....

I'm using flash 8 but have dropped the scripting, at least most of it, and changed my movie clips to graphics. Is there a way to get this three minute animation onto a dvd that will play on a tv? I created the animation in scenes. What format is used when flash is rendered for broadcast?

View 4 RepliesI'm having a bit of trouble with flash cs3 video encoder. I'd like to encode some mpeg files to flv but I keep getting errors when trying to encode. The mpeg files are raw imported from my dvd video cam. I'm guessing they are mpeg-2 720 by 480 res. Quicktime files encode fine but I haven't tried any other video types. I thought it was a codec problem as all I use is vlc for video. So I tried k-lite codec pack nut no success, same errors. Just wondering if anyone had any advice. I suppose I could encode my mpeg files to mov first? But what encoder would I use to keep high quality?

I recently got a project in which i have create a whole set of flash animations and then convert them into video to be put on dvd. Now since they are going to be put on dvd's so there is not going to be any user interaction but a continuous playing stream.
I was thinking of putting all the texts into xml files and then calling them in the flash file but if i will have to convert them into video file then will the video file work the same way as the flash file?
I have a Flash-file with some ActionScript code that loads an RSS-feed and animates the content. Now I need to convert that to a video file to use on an external display. Since the RSS-feed updates quite often, this needs to be automated and preferably run on Linux.
So far, I've only found tools to convert FLV to another video format, but that isn't exactly what I need.
Are there any tools available to do this or can it only be done manually through Adobe Flash?

View 10 RepliesI downloaded some videos from youtube and vimeo , and when I doubble click on the file, its just an empty container, I do have Flash 8 and my friend helped me a bit to play the file by using Flash 8 , but whenever I wanna play the file, I have to have that Flash plyer in the same folder, can some1 be kind and help me a bit to convert my Flee or Flea , whatever is that called to a AVI or any other types of file , which Premiere can load !

Basically we would have a file on the server in say .avi format, or quicktime format. How do I grab it from the server, convert it to flash and display it on the php page to play?

I've compiled an MTS video into MP4 format using FFMPEG. The video is 2 minutes long.
I want to be able to play the video back but start at 0:15 seconds and end at 0:45 seconds. Effectively I want the playback software to only show 30 seconds of playback available. The software must be a Flash-based application for integration into HTML.
I'm making a site in flash and I have a video in the middle that autoplays when you come on the site. I have used Adobe media encoder to convert a test video to a .flv and just embedded it into the flash. This really increases the filesize and I don't want to wait long everytime I upload the swf to our FTP server.
I know there is a way to make sort of placeholder using getVideo (or something like that), but I didn't manage to make it working.
I've tried exporting a MOV file using Flash 8. I've tried converting to a MOV using ffmpegx. Neither have worked.

But the FLV playback on the "Flash player 10" is alot smaller than the playback of the MPEG video on "VLC". Is there anyway to adjust any properties to get the FLV to the actual size of the MPEG video?

I want to convert a ByteArray wich contains a .flv file read through a socket connection to a video playable object and play it, or attach it somehow to the netstrem as its source. Why this ? I'm trying to write an app using AS 3.0 that connects two swf clients to each other directly without a server (after they know of each other) and allow them to exchange video sequences. So the reverse way video -> bytearray -> network -> reciever ->video would be of interest aswell.
