May 30, 2010Is there a way I can stop a single word splitting over two lines when putting dynamic text into a fixed width, multiline text field?I have a simple method of checking if there are more lines than words and then running a while loop to reduce the font size until there are the same amount or less lines than words. But this doesnt always work, if say the final word of three is quite short and the second word splits over two lines then I still have 3 words and 3 lines.

Nov 28, 2006If you take a look at my flash movie you will see that I have draggable movie clips, which contain dynamic text fields. These text fields contain text drawn in from a simple xml document. The problem I have is that the text in the text fields is hedged right next to the border of the autosized text box. This makes them look untidy and in the worst case difficult to read. I wonder how I can add some margin to the left and right of the text to fill in some space.The code which formats the text boxes is:

Is there a way to pass the textfield A text to a dynamic text input (flash) as I'd like to use the font embedding flash offers. I can make it work when loading a value from a txt file but I'm not sure how to access the value identified above as KitGroupID_16_TextOption_38 and make it appear in a dynamic input box. Eventually I might want to have 3 font choices for the user but I'd like to just see if I can get this working properly first.

Jul 10, 2009I am having a problem with my text alignment and I can't figure out a way to correct this. Unfortunately, I'm using a mac with CS3 and a Windows computer with CS4, so it could either be an OS difference, a version difference, or a software bug which I can't figure out.
For some reason, the text on my Mac with CS3 are not in the vertical center of the text fields. This causes a problem with my "align vertical centers" alignments, meaning I've had to do the alignment by hand to get it to look right. When I moved my file to my laptop to keep working on my project at home, I noticed that the text alignment was correct on my laptop, causing all of the text placement throughout my document to be off. This means that I can only work on the one computer and can't bring the project home to work through the weekends.
I have made an image showing the difference of how the text is aligned on the two versions, and a sample of how it affects my project when i bring it between computers.
I made the file on the mac (CS3) first, and so the alignment is designed to look correct on there. When i bring it to the PC (CS4) the text shifts down, placing it back in the center of the text boxes and ruining the alignment.
When I publish the file it keeps the formatting of each system. IE - publishing on the mac makes the final product look like it does on the mac, and publishing on the windows computer makes it look like it looks on the windows computer. The file published from the mac has the mac alignment on both computers, and the file published from the pc has the alignment of the pc on both computers.

Dec 8, 2010I'm creating an XML-driven pie chart in AS3 with 2 text boxes in each pie slice. Both text fields are dynamic in the sense that they are populated by the XML doc and then told where to place themselves in the AS3. I've got them both using the same x and y position to place themselves at the moment (which of course puts them right one top of each other), but I'd like to make one of the fields (which acts like a label or a title to the larger number and % text field) place itself in a particular spot around the other text field. The result I'm looking for is to have the smaller "title" text field appear approximately 5 pixels above and left-justified to the larger "percentage" field.
Anyway, here are two sections of code that I've currently got. The first chunk, for the Tags portion, sets the position for the "percentage" text field using a good old x and y method. The second chunk, for Titles, is setting the position for the smaller "title" text.

IDE :: Multiline Dynamic Text Box - Printing Container MovieClip
Jul 21, 2009I am using Flash CS3 and AS2. I have a dynamically generated text string that is displaying in a multiline dynamic text box. This dynamic text box is inside a container movie clip which contains everything that I want my user to be able to print (other dynamic text fields, graphics etc.) When I view my swf on screen it displays exactly as I intended - if the text exceeds the text-box length, then it word-wraps. But when I print the container movieclip, the overflow is hidden and does not wrap to the next line.

I can make this happen, but the problem is that the dinamic field shows its new text in the same format as the Input field. For example, the input text is written in TimesNewRoman and the dinamic text is in Arial, but when the dinamic text shows the input, the text is still in TimesNewRoman when I want it to be in Arial.

Oct 26, 2010I'm trying to use a dynamic text field to pull in html text that contains a bulleted list. Easy enough, that works. But the bullets dont take on the color assigned to the field. I've tried putting it in the html text and also using NewTextFormat and neither work. Can someone help me. This should be a simple fix, but I can't find it... I just want my text and bullets to both be white.

Professional :: Dynamic Text Field Not Displaying Text Even When Font Is Embedded?
Jan 16, 2011So, I have some basic actionscript code. It's a legacy site, so I'm using AS2. The line of code simply does this:
myField.text = "some text"
So, I select the text field on the stage, then ensure the font is embedded. All the glyphs I want are checked, but then when I compile and test, the fonts don't show up when the code is executed. Instead, the textfield is blank! What happened?! Where did the text go?
I should mention that the .swf which I compile is loaded into another parent .swf during runtime. If that parent .swf does not contain embedded fonts, is that why it's broken?

Mar 2, 2011I am working in Flash CS5 and I have placed a text field (dynamic, classic text) on the stage. I am accessing it through Actionscript on the same frame like this:

What ACTUALLY appears is this: So... The H, Ls, and D are gone. Mysteriously. Without warning. I am sitting here utterly confused. Is this just me?
PS. The text field is set to Myriad Pro Bold, a font on my computer, so it isn't like it's a font problem.

All html formatting show up just fine, except for when "&" is used. Flash CS3 documentation indicates that & is supported, so.? All text after the & does not appear: the only text loaded is that that comes before it. I am using CS3, AS2, publishing in Flash Player 9. Sorry if this problem has been addressed elsewhere, but I've had no luck with my searches.
