ActionScript 2.0 :: Closed Caption - Display Certain Words In Italics?
Feb 26, 2010
I am working in Flash 8 - with a media player that pulls a .flv file from a streaming server. I've closed captioned the .flv - but the client wants certain words in italics and wants the "registered symbol" to be put after it's name - in the captions.Here is a piece of the code I'm using to make the captions:
my_FLVPlybk.addASCuePoint(.0, "...music");
my_FLVPlybk.addASCuePoint(5, "Hi, my name is Tom MacLaughlin, Vice");
my_FLVPlybk.addASCuePoint(9.5, "President of the Ayco AnswerLine");
what the subject says: Closed Caption for Video Flv. Every documentation on internet speak about FlvPlaybackCaptioning.. I would like to made a flv player with caption on my own...
I also found an interesting component called CCForFlashAs3, but I'm not able to use it...
I'm following the instructions here URL... to learn how to modify a closed caption plugin for the bright cove video player.I started by downloading the closed caption module code here:URL...After I downloaded it and unzipped it, I modified the file src/ClosedCaptionsModule.as.Now the instructions tell me to compile this into a SWF file.I looked at all the top menu items in Adobe Flash CS4, but I don't see any Build or Compile command.The Debug movie and Test movie actions are grayed out.
I've completed the Hover Caption tutorial at [URL] successfully. What I'd like to do in addition, is to resize the caption box to match the caption text's length.
I've tried giving the background box a name (box) and turning it into a button and then doing:
But the box never aligns with the text properly after that. don't know what methods to call in order to get the bottom corner of the text and bottom corner of the box and align them properly.
I have an audio slide show and I need to add caption and on off button to show and hide the caption. how can I make on and off button to show the caption?and is it possible to add caption on my audio (not video) using actionscript 3.0?
I want to have a name appear on my Flash page stay for 10 seconds, and fly off then another name and so on... So it would sort of be like "her name was... JENNY", and the "JENNY" would be the bit that changed... I don't want it to ever end either so would I need to have some sort of file with like a million names in there that Flash would pull in?
Is it possible to make dynamic text boxes display only full words from an xml feed? At the moment I have a selection of feeds that are supposed to run into each other, but if some of the text is longer than expected I get the first one or two characters of a word tagged on at the end. Is it possible to have the flash read whether it has character space left to display the next word in the xml?
I know it doesn't really recognise spaces etc and just pulls in the info within the node, but maybe there's a work-around if you want to do what I'm trying?
so i search for keywords ofc, but...doing this isn't really my thing:input.text.indexOf("spam") != -1 && input.text.indexOf("more") ! -1 && ... etc I'd like to make it some what like:input.text.indexOf(<database>) != -1
I would like to display a message in flash "we are open" or "we are closed" based upon time. Naturally I can do this for the users local time on their system, but is it possible to work out if their time is different to UK time (GMT) and display those messages accordingly. Afterall I don't want a user to see a message "we are open" at 1pm their time - they could be in Japan and it'd be about 4am UK time.Is this possible to work out the time difference on any system?
A NetStatusEvent with info.code of "NetStream.Connect.Closed" is dispatched by NetConnection when a NetStream is closed. This seems kind of weird, shouldn't the NetStream dispatch the event? how do I know which NetStream has been closed if I have more than one running (which I do)? I need to know so I can cleanup the now dead stream.
I have a .doc file. I want to load the text from that file into Flash. So I convert it into a .txt using a website like this one: http:[url]..... I add in the little code at the beginning (myTextField=) and then Flash loads it fine. The only problem is any marked up text (italics, bold, underline) is lost. Is there any way to prevent this from happening? Or for Flash to load text from something other than a .txt? Or to manually reinsert html tags to the .txt and get Flash to understand them? Or something else I'm not considering?

My text field correctly displays the text in the "PrimaryText.txt" file. The first line of the text shows like this: <b>Testing this text</b> instead of just showing up bold. And the "Render text as HTML" is checked.
I have a shared fonts.swf file containing a variety of fonts that my main swf uses. I have a movieclip within the fonts.swf file which is exported for runtime sharing. In my main swf i have the fonts.swf imported for runtime via a movieclip. This all works fine and allows me to use the fonts within the fonts.swf file in my main swf. All of my text fields are dynamic and created/updated via AS. I use the following method to style my text boxes(additional code removed for succinctness, this is just so you can see the overall methodology)[code]...
I've seen this a few times and I've tried all the "fixes" but I'm still missing something here. I have "[CDATA[" tags and render as HTML turned on. My AS has HTML "true" and childNodes. However I still can't get my text to render fonts in either BOLD or italic. [URL].
So I have a MovieClip asset with a dynamic textfield sitting inside of it. I export my .fla as a .swc to use within Flash Builder 4, and create instances of the asset with code, populating the text dynamically from XML.
My issue is that even though I have htmlText enabled, bold and italics tags don't appear to be working. I have a feeling it is because when I created the asset in Flash CS4, the text field makes you specify the font, and the subset of that to use (Regular, Bold, Oblique, etc).
Is there any way to get the htmlText to render bold and italics tags properly without having to completely rethink the way I'm creating all these fields?
I'm using HTML text formatting with a Textfield. At the moment the <u> underline tag works fine but the <b> bold tags don't work or the italics tag doesn't work either. I read somewhere that a font with bold and italics needs to be "available". I'm just using a textfield with Arial as the font - which is embedded.
I'm loading content from a text file into a text field in Flash. In that text file I have some simple html tags like <b>, <i>, and <img>. I'm setting the textfield as html text: myTextField.htmlText = myContent The img tags work fine, but for some reason the bold and italics are not displaying...the tags are being correctly stripped from the text, but there is no bold or italic text. I'm embedding all the characters I need, but do I need to somehow embed the bold/italics versions of those characters?
I have written a tab nav class for learning purposes but have run into an issue with the tab captions. I invoke the tab class by sending in an array of the buttons that are needed, tabs are displayed accordingly. with the tab creation loop, I create the textfields for earch tab caption which is displayed as expected. I then have MouseOut and MouseOver effects which works (tab color changes accordingly), however, when MouseOver and MouseOut effects are triggered, the caption is no longer visible because, the mouse effect changes the caption text color which I don't know how to stop. I just want the the tab to change color NOT the caption.
I am trying to learn Flash and as soon as I think I am in good shape, comes along this "curve ball". Take a look at the .FLA from this site ([URL]) How in the world do the alpha buttons get their captions? I understand the numeric ones, but alphas completely baffle me as there is no code (that I can find) that sets them. I have deleted all of the Actions, I have deleted virtually everything there is, and I still can't figure out how does the button instance appear as the caption in the text box.
I just can't see it. I took a resizing prototype function from the compiled fla in the resizing slideshow thread (found here, post #171) and combined it with the concepts from the hover caption tutorial on kirupa. But instead of creating a dynamic text box in the hover movie clip I am creating the text dynamically using createTextField and then autosizing it using textfield.autoSize = true (didn't seem to work when I used "left"). When you use createTextField you have to specify a width and height. The autoSize command seems to dynamically resize the textfield in height but not in width. When running a trace the width is always the same though the height changes
I am looking for some opinions or ideas for the best way to do this. I have a scene that is loading a swf. I have a dynamic text field that is displaying captions relating to what is happening in the loaded swf. The captions are relatively short and I am wondering what the best way to display them would be? Right now I am loading from a text file and can dynamically load the next file using this:
I cant see why the first caption of a dynamic text box want load. Its the caption from a xml gallery Once I go to the second pic it starts loading and if I go back to the first pic it loads.
how to get a scrolling thumbnail photo gallery to work with an imbedded bonus array. What I can't figure out is how to change the caption on the photos so that when I click on the bonus thumbnails (b2, b3, b4, etc) the text/caption changes on the website.I can upload the flash file if anyone is interested in helping. [code]
I'm using the flvPlayback and Captioning component/skin for some videos. Works great, but I can't figure out how to have the captions off by default and use the caption button to turn them on for users who want to see the caption buttons. flvCaption.showCaptions=false; Hides the captions, but also disables the captionButton in the skin, so there is no way to toggle showing and hiding the captions.
I have made an image gallery using a tutorial by blue chiIt is basically constituated of thumbs that once clicked let a large image appear. I now want to add captions to these large images, on a rollover. I tried applying the tutorial "Hover Captions" to my movie, without success.Being relatively new to all that language, I am not sure it is appliable, and mostly where I should put it, i.e, should i include it to my main timeline or to each image (which are movie clips), on an other layer and so on.Here is the code I have for now
