I've seen this a few times and I've tried all the "fixes" but I'm still missing something here. I have "[CDATA[" tags and render as HTML turned on. My AS has HTML "true" and childNodes. However I still can't get my text to render fonts in either BOLD or italic. [URL].
View 1 RepliesI have a shared fonts.swf file containing a variety of fonts that my main swf uses. I have a movieclip within the fonts.swf file which is exported for runtime sharing. In my main swf i have the fonts.swf imported for runtime via a movieclip. This all works fine and allows me to use the fonts within the fonts.swf file in my main swf. All of my text fields are dynamic and created/updated via AS. View 3 RepliesI'm using HTML text formatting with a Textfield. At the moment the <u> underline tag works fine but the <b> bold tags don't work or the italics tag doesn't work either. I read somewhere that a font with bold and italics needs to be "available". I'm just using a textfield with Arial as the font - which is embedded.
View 1 RepliesI'm loading content from a text file into a text field in Flash. In that text file I have some simple html tags like <b>, <i>, and <img>. I'm setting the textfield as html text:
myTextField.htmlText = myContent
The img tags work fine, but for some reason the bold and italics are not displaying...the tags are being correctly stripped from the text, but there is no bold or italic text. I'm embedding all the characters I need, but do I need to somehow embed the bold/italics versions of those characters?
I have a .doc file. I want to load the text from that file into Flash. So I convert it into a .txt using a website like this one: http:[url]..... I add in the little code at the beginning (myTextField=) and then Flash loads it fine. The only problem is any marked up text (italics, bold, underline) is lost. Is there any way to prevent this from happening? Or for Flash to load text from something other than a .txt? Or to manually reinsert html tags to the .txt and get Flash to understand them? Or something else I'm not considering?

My text field correctly displays the text in the "PrimaryText.txt" file. The first line of the text shows like this: <b>Testing this text</b> instead of just showing up bold. And the "Render text as HTML" is checked.
So I have a MovieClip asset with a dynamic textfield sitting inside of it. I export my .fla as a .swc to use within Flash Builder 4, and create instances of the asset with code, populating the text dynamically from XML.
My issue is that even though I have htmlText enabled, bold and italics tags don't appear to be working. I have a feeling it is because when I created the asset in Flash CS4, the text field makes you specify the font, and the subset of that to use (Regular, Bold, Oblique, etc).
Is there any way to get the htmlText to render bold and italics tags properly without having to completely rethink the way I'm creating all these fields?
Just to give you a little background, I am using CS4 and AS3, publishing to FP9. I am embedding fonts dynamically at runtime and there seems to be an issue with my dynamic 'html' text field when I have <b> tags within the CDATA.
In some cases, Flash seems to be rendering the bold text too close to the preceding character. Sometimes, even overlapping the preceding character. For the most part, this appears to be happening when the bold text appears at the end of the line before the text is wrapped.
I will note that, any text in the xml file wrapped in <b></b> tags is actually appearing bold, so I don't think it has anything to do with font embedding. In case it does, here is how I am embedding the font groups:

View 2 RepliesAnybody know the trick to getting both bold and regular text in a dynamic text field? I can do it with system fonts no problem (using htmlText), but the client wants copy to be Futura Medium and Futura Bold. I'm pretty sure this isn't the first time anyone's had to do this.

If I select the text field in Flash and change the color or size those attributes will change in the published version, but... when I click the B button, it won't render the text bold in the published version.Do I have to add additional font formatting in the actual ActionScript? View 5 RepliesI have a dynamic text field with the text "IMAGES". The font is Arial, it has BOLD and ITALIC checked, and has basic Latin fonts embedded. Now, I use Actionscript to change the text:
textField.text = "IMAGES";
Suddenly the text disappears! Now, it seems to me that since BOLD and ITALIC are checked on the text field, changing the .text value should simply change the text itself, which should then be rendered in bold and italic, and since I have bold+italic Latin glyphs embedded, it should display properly. But what's clearly happening is that when I set the text using Actionscript, it is attempting to display the NORMAL font instead, and since it's not embedded, it won't display. I know this because if I create another proxy text field off the screen and embed the NORMAL Arial glyphs, the original text field's text will display just fine - as normal-weight text.
But why is this? Do I have to use a TextFormat object to set the text to Bold and Italic EVERY time I want to dynamicaly change the text? This seems silly. I simply want my text field to be bold and italic every time the text changes, and NO normal text!
It seems like I found a bug in Flash Professional CS5. For some reason a bold capital "U" will not render in htmlText. It will render fine in a normal text box and will render as a lowercase u or as a non-bold capital U. I have tried typing two UUs in a row, typing a letter before the U, but it always skips the bold capital U.

When i click on the button to display the text it looks right the first time but if i click on it a second time then all of the text shows up bold instead of just the few lines i assigned the bold tag to.

I dynamically create a textField. I load an external CSS file into a stylesheet. From an XML file I load HTML content into the textField via .htmlText I have added the font to the library and have made it available for Export for ActionScript The HTML has spans with classes eg:
<span class="boldText">Flash Flash Flash</span>
The CSS states:

The font I'm using does not have any other family members like bold or italic Here is the problem. Leaving embedFonts = false things work just fine. But obviously I need to embed this font so all can see it. As soon as i set embedFonts = true I no longer get bold or italic.Is this a case of because the font does not have a bold or italic the system it just rendering, or am I just missing something? For example the checkboxes in the font's properties where you can choose bold and italic. I tried these but no luck.
I try to do a site for a community against child abuse, I've got external text files and have choosen render as html. I choose Verdana regular font and embed some swedish characters. When I then write something in the text file it works OK, and so with the <i>, <u> and <li> tags but when I write <b> tags nothing happends at all. Then I tryed to embed the bold font and everything went bold, why is it so? How do I make the bold tag work?

I have an HTML string that uses bold and italic tags which I need to apply to a TextField. I need the font to be embedded though and I can't seem to find a way to do this. From what I've read it seems that Flash needs to use the actual bold/italic versions of the font rather than just changing it with HTML? In which case I can't do it all in one textfield because you can't change font? The only solution I found was a suggestion to use the [Embed()] method rather than the method I am using (embedding the font in a library symbol) but I don't think you can do that either with Flash CS3?
View 5 RepliesI save my (embedded) fonts in an external file (fonts.swf) that gets loaded at runtime. Pretty standard. I also use a bunch of UI artwork generated in the Flash IDE. Some of this artwork contains static textfields (thus, not proper TextFields that can change. Just frozen glyphs). Here's the problem: if I use the same font in any static textfield and then embed that same font into my collection of runtime fonts, the runtime font will refuse to render. It's the same effect you get if you set a textfield with embeddedFonts=true to use a font that isn't embedded. If I change the static textfields to use a different font, the runtime fonts work just fine.

Trying to format input text fields using format buttons in Actionscript has been challenging. I've been able to put some pieces together, however I am still missing some things. Here's my code:

I need the ability to click the Bold button and it bolds or unbolds at the cursor so if I hit the bold button what I type from that point on will be bold until I hit the button again and then it goes back to regular. I am able to change it to bold or unbold by selecting the text and clicking the button but I also need to do it without selecting.
I have a dynamic textfield being populated with an xml files' content. I then have a css stylesheet loaded into format the text. This all works great, but what doesn't work is the ability to bold some of the words in that text. I have both the regular and bold versions of the font embedded into the swf, I can test out just a bold block of text and it works fine. The css is also working as it will change the size of the text that I tell it to. Everything is working, but for some reason I am not able to get the bolder version of the font to display in the same text box as the regular one. I have also tried to change fonts but had the same outcome.

View 1 RepliesI'm trying to update an old CS3 project, which had a dynamic text field with HTML formatted text using the <b> tag to create bold text in places. In the CS4 version the bold text simply doesn't show up. It does in the CS3 version. I have embedded the font in both regular and bold varieties, both by using the offstage empty text field method, and the font in library method. I simply can't get it to work. I've seen other people having this problem with CS4 on other forums, but no solutions or workarounds as yet.

Tried importing an XML into the Dynamic Text box: same results. Tried HTMLEncoding the values as <div> and it says <div>.
Perhaps the "Render Text as HTML" means HTMLencoding. Anyone know how to set it to "render the HTML tags"?
I've got a dynamic text field that I want to sometimes be bold, sometimes not. It's called "myTextField".I'm sending it a variable called "myText" and trying to bold it as follows:myTextField.text = "<B>" + myText + "</B>"
- The text field has the font embedded.
- I have some regular AND bold text in the text field in authoring
- The text field is set to receive HTML text in properties.
But it keeps putting "<B>" right in the text field before my variable and "</B>" after. What am I missing / not getting here?I know I've done this before, but can't find where.
i'm using a font called "AGBookBQ-Regular" in a dynamic text box, which loads a text file. i understand that to include the bold and italic options, i have placed another text box just out of view off the stage with these two options selected.italic works fine but the bold makes very little difference... it only stretches the font slightly.i've searched for the answer to make a much bolder font and it seems you can use a specific bold font as the bold font.i've tried this, but nothing happens. i think i'm interpreting it correctly, but if someone could please confirm this works and perhaps explain it a little clearer (using my specific font names... "AGBookBQ-Regular" and "AGBookBQ-Medium" as the bold font).
