I create a dynamic text object on my stage. I set the family to Arial and style to Bold. When I change the text by setting the .text to something else, the bold goes away and it just becomes Regular. How can I make it stay Bold?

I need the ability to click the Bold button and it bolds or unbolds at the cursor so if I hit the bold button what I type from that point on will be bold until I hit the button again and then it goes back to regular. I am able to change it to bold or unbold by selecting the text and clicking the button but I also need to do it without selecting.
I have a dynamic textfield being populated with an xml files' content. I then have a css stylesheet loaded into format the text. This all works great, but what doesn't work is the ability to bold some of the words in that text. I have both the regular and bold versions of the font embedded into the swf, I can test out just a bold block of text and it works fine. The css is also working as it will change the size of the text that I tell it to. Everything is working, but for some reason I am not able to get the bolder version of the font to display in the same text box as the regular one. I have also tried to change fonts but had the same outcome.
View 2 RepliesI have a linked movieclip that contains two textfields.One of the textfields needs to have regular and bold text, so I thought I would use htmlText however it's only showing the regular font that I embedded?I made the textfield in Flash and called it "details".I also tried to make another textField in the symbol called, "invisi" and I set it not visible:invisi.visible = false;I embedded the BOLD version of the font in the invisi textfield, hoping this would make the "details" text field show the bold font...but no luck.

View 9 RepliesI'm trying to update an old CS3 project, which had a dynamic text field with HTML formatted text using the <b> tag to create bold text in places. In the CS4 version the bold text simply doesn't show up. It does in the CS3 version. I have embedded the font in both regular and bold varieties, both by using the offstage empty text field method, and the font in library method. I simply can't get it to work. I've seen other people having this problem with CS4 on other forums, but no solutions or workarounds as yet.

When i click on the button to display the text it looks right the first time but if i click on it a second time then all of the text shows up bold instead of just the few lines i assigned the bold tag to.

It's what this image describes:For some reason, I cannot use bold tags to set the TLF text to bold, even though both the regular and bold fonts are embedded.so that the webpage that embeds this movie can call its function (otherwise the movie itself will be wrapped by TLF).his is not exactly a question since there is an obvious solution to this. Right now, all they do is change from their original color, blue, to black when clicked. No further "cycling" occurs. I'm appending the code. The part of interest is (probably?) in what is presently (and inaccurately) the "traceTextEvent()" function/method. It starts around line 90 of the code.

I'm having difficulty setting the text of a dynamic text field when using an if statementI have a gallery and thumbnails, which gives each image a picNum, ie 1, 2 etc;When I click on the thumbnails, it sets the picNum accordingly.What I want to do is set the caption depending upon my picNum, so I set a function to change the caption depending upon the picNum that is called when the thumbnail is clicked. Ie.

I'm working with swf's generated by InDesign CS5, which will apparently only export text as staticText objects. Is it possible to alter the anti-alias of staticText? I want to make it for readability, but it defaults to animation with no apparent way of changing it. I recently got help for textFields, but I can't seem to get it to work on staticText.

I created a somewhat custom Spark button by doing the File > New > MXML skin and basing it on spark.components.button. The problem is that I need to add an extra text field to the button component and dynamically change that text...but of course, the property isn't recognized on a Spark Button.
Is there a simple way to add this field to my custom button skin & its property so it can be addressed? If not, is there a simple way to take what I've done and just extend the Spark Button? I can't seem to find any examples that show how to do it without writing it all up in ActionScript.

In this movie clip I have drawn a text field (area? well TEXT) using the plain "Text Tool".
After selecting the text, and after I have entered "0" to be displayed, I edit its properties. It's Instance Name, defined at the very top of the list I have written "score". The text engine is TLF Text and the text type "Read only".
When I have made a instance of the movie clip using AS3 I can't get the value of the text instance named "score" - when calling something like trace(getChildByName("score")) in the constructor I just get null.
I want to be able to get the value of the text "score", and I would also like to change its value.
Just how do I get the value from ActionScript? I don't want to have to create the text progamatically and position it, and I doubt that I have to.
I'm pulling text from an xml file into a dynamic text field and I need to highlight the text one paragraph at a time depending on where the timeline playhead is. I was thinking of doing this by changing the color of the text but I don't know how to do it inside the CDATA tags.At the moment one CDATA populates one text field.Another option is that there would be a movie clip behind the text that would jump to highlight a specific paragraph but then I would need to know how much vertical space each paragraph takes.

View 1 RepliesBasically I want to get the text fields in my Flash translated. To achieve this, I have the translations in a XML file and all text fields are dynamic. I read the XML (dependent on a language calling parameter from the HTML) and set the text fields like:
this["text_1"].text = "Hello";
The "text_1" and "Hello" are of course retrieved from the XML and I use variables in my code.
Now to the problem: I can successfully set the text field, that is visible in the Frame 1 (where my script is executed), but setting text fields that appear later give me an error. Translated it means something like Null Pointer not accessible. So I assume, that the this["text_x"] can not be found.
Is there a way to access it without copying the script into each text element? I have also thought about events, e.g. when the text is shown the first time and I do the translation then (would have to cache the XML at startup then to save time), but didn't find anything.
when it comes to flash but managed to learn enough this past week to get a simple website up (getting laid off so scrambling to get portfolio online!). I have an upload test at lisedupuis.net. In my work section I have a bunch of thumbnails (buttons) for all of the video. Basically, I want to add a text field under the video player which will contain a movie clip name. I want to set it up so that when you mouse over the thumbnails the text changes to the correct movie clip name. I thought maybe creating an event listener might work but can't seem to figure out how to write it. Been looking online and not finding exactly what I need and I am in a huge rush.
