i have a dynamic text field that loads a variable into it (just a simple text file). this text file will be updated on occasion. i also have a movie clip to be positioned below the text field, however i want the movie clip to change position depending on how much text is in the text field so there isnt a large gap and so they dont overlap. is this possible? i tried the following actionscript to adjust the size of the text field depending on the amount of text. textField2.autosize = "center"; however i have no idea how to get the y position of the movie clip to adjust accordingly.

I just need to know how I can reduce the size of the dynamic text font when there are too many letters in the text box!
I've tried this code :
this.result1.onChanged = function() {
myTextFormat = new TextFormat();
myTextFormat.size = 25-(this.text.length/2);

I have an MC with a single-line dynamic text box in it. I am placing the MC on stage using attachMovie. Then I am loading text into the dynamic text box in the MC I just placed on stage. I am trying to figure out code that will make the dynamic text box either scale up or down to fit the text that I am loading into it.
View 6 RepliesI'm trying to change the text size in a dynamic text area within a (movie clip) button. For a couple of buttons I'd like to make certain text smaller, for example, to make the "vs" smaller in "A VS B". My buttons have dynamic text in them and the font is embedded and set at size 10 initially. The code I've got in my movie is as follows:
Code:
// define new text formatting
var minimenutext_txt:TextFormat = new TextFormat();
minimenutext_txt.size = 8;
avsb_txt = "A VS B";
avsb_txt.setTextFormat(3,4,minimenutext_txt);
// assign formatting to button dynamic text
btn1.btext.buttext.text = avsb_txt;
The text "A VS B" shows up in my button, but I can't seem to do anything to change the format. I've tried making it bold, italic, that kind of thing too - but no luck. Does the setTextFormat command only work with input dynamic text boxes? Is it being overruled somehow?

View 2 RepliesI'm using evt.target.borderColor = 0xff00000 to successfully change the color of a dynamic text filed that is the target Now I'm trying to change the border size. borderSize isn't being accepted, so I was wondering if there is an attribute to change the border size of a text field? My internet searches are coming up with nothing that works.
View 1 RepliesProblem: I am trying to get a very simple text resize going, for my main content area in a flash website. My aim is to get a button, that on click, increases the text size of a dynamic text field.

This is what I tried, I am very new to Action Script, so excuse the futility of my code.
Im trying to get my text to change depending on the playhead in another MC. This is my code... someone have a peak at what may be wrong

A have a big chunk of dynamic text (from a db). From this text i am making a .pdf. So i would like to limit the amount of outputted text as a page can run out of space.
I have tried to do it with search and replace. But the problem is that it counts only characters instead of characters in combination with whitespace and the number of lines.
There is space for 100 characters/spaces on each line, and a total of 38 lines on one page.
So i am thinking of something like this: * count all new lines represented by
* count all characters/whitespaces dived to the number of lines to check if this fits the number of (as it uses wordwap)
Anyone with bright ideas on how to approach this?
(btw. TextField.maxChars will not work as it's dynamic text...)
I have:
Input text box
Dynamic text box
What's the code and where do i put it, so when entering a value to the input text, the dynamic will show the amount multiplied by 20?
I was wondering if it's possible to have a dynamic text box that can change sizes, without distorting the text displayed in it... I would also like to set it up dynamically.
View 4 RepliesI have an input text box (txtInput) and a dynamic text box (dynTxt). I want the dynamic text to stay black but highlight a segment of that text in yellow depending on certain characters.

I'm pulling text from an xml file into a dynamic text field and I need to highlight the text one paragraph at a time depending on where the timeline playhead is. I was thinking of doing this by changing the color of the text but I don't know how to do it inside the CDATA tags.At the moment one CDATA populates one text field.Another option is that there would be a movie clip behind the text that would jump to highlight a specific paragraph but then I would need to know how much vertical space each paragraph takes.
View 3 RepliesI have some dynamic text I want to change the attributes of. For instance, I would like the first few words of each paragraph to be BOLD and to be a different color. But when I select those words and change it to bold it makes ALL the text in the text box change to BOLD.
View 5 RepliesBasically I want to get the text fields in my Flash translated. To achieve this, I have the translations in a XML file and all text fields are dynamic. I read the XML (dependent on a language calling parameter from the HTML) and set the text fields like:
this["text_1"].text = "Hello";
The "text_1" and "Hello" are of course retrieved from the XML and I use variables in my code.
Now to the problem: I can successfully set the text field, that is visible in the Frame 1 (where my script is executed), but setting text fields that appear later give me an error. Translated it means something like Null Pointer not accessible. So I assume, that the this["text_x"] can not be found.
Is there a way to access it without copying the script into each text element? I have also thought about events, e.g. when the text is shown the first time and I do the translation then (would have to cache the XML at startup then to save time), but didn't find anything.
I am trying to change the text color in a dynamic text field with xml.[code]but this creates a text field for you, which I dont need it created already have a dynamic text field with the var mybtninfo.What I have right now to get the text to show up in the field is:now only want to change the color of the text in the box thru XML.
View 8 RepliesLet me explain the setup:There is a dynamic text box called, for example, myText stored inside a movieclip that is called myMovieclip. Now, I simply want to change the text of the dynamic text box within the movieclip. Yes I know:PHP Code:
_root.myMovieclip.myText.text = "Hello!";
The problem that I have however, is that the instance name myText is stored in a variable, lets call it myVariable. So in very simple layout, it looks like this:
PHP Code:
myVariable = "myText";
_root.myMovieclip.myVariable.text = "Hello!";
I want to be able to click a button and have the *text* in a dynamic text box change alignment (center, left justify, right justify).. similar to any word processor.

I am trying to change the text in a dynamic text field when I hover over some shapes but this is not working
Actionscript Code:
on (rollOver){ myText_txt.text ="Isolation"}

Specifically, I'm trying to change the border size of a text box.
When I click the type tool and drag a text box out and type a couple words at 235pt size it looks fine. as soon as I click off the text box, the text size jumps down. I have no idea why this is happening and I can't get it to stay. When I click the type tool on the box again the tet appears at the 235pt size. But when I click off of it and play the movie it is at the incorrect size.
View 3 RepliesIs it possible to create a for loop, that looks at the number ofcharacters in the symbol, take the current character and raise its size by 2pt, and the previous and next characters by 1 point? And as it continuess to put the original size of each character back?I'd only started working on this, but (a) I'm new to ActionScript, and (b) it may not be possible to create such a routine.I started with this before posting:
Code:
for (L=0; L<pageTitle.letters.length; L++)

I'd like to be able to click on each of the buttons and have the background color change and also have its color name loaded in the dynamic text field. E.g. Clicking the white square would change the background color to white and should also display the text ''white'' in the dynamic text box. I've sorted out the colour changing part with the following code:

I tried this but doesnt works: var tf:TextFormat = new TextFormat(); tf.font = "Arial"; tf.size = 25; tf.bold = true; list.setStyle("textFormat", tf);
View 3 RepliesI made a flash application that gets the geolocation of a viewer ( city, state) and I'm trying to figure out how I could make the font smaller to fit in the container that I have it in depending on how big the name of the city is. For example, "Detroit" may fit, but "Los Angeles" may need to be a smaller font.
View 1 Repliesis it possible to set the text size for ALL the textfields in the movie with one script? Even if they have no instance names, even if they are created dynamically,...
Maybe some prototype which activates after the textfield is "created"?
