I want to make some buttons and use the buttons.fla library. The button is inserted and given an instance name. A second button is inserted (same kind) and given a new instance name. But when I am trying to change the label text in one of my buttons the text is changing on the other button as well. I believed they where separate instances?

I have a button with variable-length of label text. I have a User Setting that can turn on or off the label text on this button.
How can I implement this?
NOTE: the button's background has a gradient color.

I usually program with C#, PHP, html etc.trying to learn Adobe Flash now so i downloaded the trial version which has 30 days trial.tried to create and follow the tutor for click ball which all of the code is the same but it doesnt work.
I triple check the code and its all right but it still not working.so i commented out all of the code and has a simple code of changing the text of the label.i set the text to "abcdefg" and but it only show "cdef".i expanded the width of the label so width is not the issue. trying to search for the limitation of the trial but i dont see any.trying to test this before i buy it.it does change but not changing correctly.i try to set to another value it always show partially only.

View 1 RepliesI created a somewhat custom Spark button by doing the File > New > MXML skin and basing it on spark.components.button. The problem is that I need to add an extra text field to the button component and dynamically change that text...but of course, the property isn't recognized on a Spark Button.
Is there a simple way to add this field to my custom button skin & its property so it can be addressed? If not, is there a simple way to take what I've done and just extend the Spark Button? I can't seem to find any examples that show how to do it without writing it all up in ActionScript.
when it comes to flash but managed to learn enough this past week to get a simple website up (getting laid off so scrambling to get portfolio online!). I have an upload test at lisedupuis.net. In my work section I have a bunch of thumbnails (buttons) for all of the video. Basically, I want to add a text field under the video player which will contain a movie clip name. I want to set it up so that when you mouse over the thumbnails the text changes to the correct movie clip name. I thought maybe creating an event listener might work but can't seem to figure out how to write it. Been looking online and not finding exactly what I need and I am in a huge rush.

I have some dynamic text I want to change the attributes of. For instance, I would like the first few words of each paragraph to be BOLD and to be a different color. But when I select those words and change it to bold it makes ALL the text in the text box change to BOLD.

I have a website template that allows full customization and has 4 flashing text buttons on the header. Everything has been working flawlessly until this....When I go to change the text for any one of the text buttons it changes the text in all of the other text buttons regardless of what I do.

I added an instance of MyButton called btn to a stage and wrote in the main class: trace(btn.txt.text); - everything was fine. now what i am trying to do, and i am almost certain i am going the wrong way with this, is to add on rollover a button that corrosponds to the text the text will change color from black to red. meaning... if i rollover button_0 the text of tcname_0 with change to red , and if i rollover button_1 text in tcname_1 would change.. and so on. so here is what i did:

2- if the loop works and doesnt break, i still have a problem of how to exactly pass the name of the text field that should be changed. right now i am hard coding it as tcname_2 to see if this even works but i would like it to somehow pass the button_x (x being the number) and use that x to change the corrosponding text i.e (tcname_x) .. is this even doable?
Is there a way, for a Button's "label" field, to display text over several lines? Or else to automatically "wrap" the text in several lines instead of cutting part of it?
View 4 RepliesI have a user text input field and a preview button, when they press preview the inputed text appears in a dynamic text field in another part of the window. I need to be able to change the font of the text in the dynamic field using buttons (so the user can see their text displayed in various different fonts which will be embedded into the swf). After watching various different tutorials I hashed together this code for my first button to change the font to Times New Roman which I embedded with the class name timesNew.

When I run the movie everything works fine and the console shows no errors but when I press the button to change the font the text in the dynamic field simply disappears.
i am not an action script developer nor flash designer, i just want to have a small action script sample that i will edit a little to make it interact with my javascript code.
