Actionscript 2.0 :: Get Vertical Dynamic Text Block By Setting To Vertical And Then To Dynamic

Jun 17, 2009

i found i can get vertical dynamic text block by setting to vertical and then to dynamic. But, then it ends up being horizontal, and if inside a clip, only the letters over another item in clip show. Like veritcal text on a vertical bar gives only the 1 or 2 letters that fit across bar, rest truncated. i've tried embedding text to get this far, but still doesn't work 'all the way' i see online they talk about all scripting for dynamic, vertical text; is that necessary, or am i missing something??

ActionScript 2.0 :: Dynamic Text Alignment With Code

Sep 5, 2010

I've been following an xml tutorial webdesign tutorial, as I'm pretty new to the whole coding side of things, I've copied their code into my own design, which has been going fine up until this point.In the tutorials the dynamic menus were alligned vertically, in my site I want them to run horizontally, well I managed to suss out how to realign them, the problem is that the spacing between each button is set according to the end of each (invisible) button.I'm wondering if theres a line of code I can insert, which defines the size of each button according to the size of the text, or alternately, that starts the spacing from the end of the text rather than the button.[code]

ActionScript 2.0 :: Dynamic Text - Setting Alignment To Right?

Mar 26, 2007

When using dynamic text and you set the text alignment to "align right", the text is supposed to flow right to left correct? With my code below I can't seem to get this to happen. All my text is flowing left to right.

Code:
// change title
_global.changeTitle = function(title:String) {
// set title text
_root.vid.title.autoSize = true;
_root.vid.title.text = title; };
changeTitle("A Global Industry");

ActionScript 2.0 :: EmbedFonts Makes Text Disappear - Dynamic Text Vertical Position?

Aug 7, 2003

I have the following code:

Code:
this.createTextField ("imageText",2,95,0,390,96);
imageText.multiline = true;
imageText.wordWrap = true;[code].....

The problem:If I uncomment either of the imageText.embedFonts lines, my text will disappear... but the trace(imageText.text); will still return the correct contents. It's as though embedFonts causes the textField to disappear.Possibly related, (but maybe not), is the fact that the vertical positioning of the font is off. Even though I create the textField at Y = 0, the text writes somewhere around Y = 10. I suspect this is something else, but I thought I'd add it just in case.

Swf Dynamic Text Switches From Horizontal To Vertical?

Aug 24, 2011

I've got a three year old site in actionscript 2 and something odd happened today.I had to change something in the fla, tested the swf and uploaded it to the server. When I test the swf in flash or just open it manually, all is fine, texts are okay.But whenever it's in a htmlpage (using swfobject or the standard flash method), all the multiline textfields turn from horizontal to vertical expanding text, so a large column of 1 character.Even my backup site acts the same way. It's driving me crazy. And my client.I installed a couple of new browsers a couple of days ago, and I remember I had to update my flashplayer. Maybe this is relevant? I just don't know.

Professional :: Mouse Cursor Becomes Vertical Bar Outside Of Dynamic Text Region?

Sep 21, 2010

Coworker is developing a Flash project and has a small dynamic text field inside a movieclip.  Imagine the text field being 200 pixels wide by 50 high, and sitting at the top of the canvas.  As she moves her mouse around the LOWER part of the canvas, directly 'under' the text field, her cursor changes from the standard arrow, to the vertical bar (that is used for text selection).  This is inexplicable and odd and is also interfering with her ability to do other things in the project.  Has anyone seen this behavior?  She has turned off 'Selectable' for the text field but that doesn't help things.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Vertical Scrolling Dynamic Text That Can Be Separate Clickable Links?

Sep 25, 2002

I am wondering how to make a movie clip that contains automatic vertical scrolling dynamic text(from an external .txt file) I dont want to press buttons to scroll text, I need it to be constantly scrolling, then loop once the text has been read from the external txt file.

I also require each line of the dynamic text to be clickable links that will take each line of text to a specific link. Ive uploaded a zip file containing fla and swf i found which shows vertical scrolling text. However if i move any of the graphics and text field clips around the stage the text cannot be seen anymore. why is this? can you put all of the items on the main stage in a movie clip so i can resize and move the scroller around the stage?? I tried this but again the text disapeared when i exported the movie? Is this due to the x + y co ordinates in the scripting?

How can you adjust the size of this scroller without this happening? Can the scrolling text be taken from an external file and each line of text be a seperate hyperlink? Follow this link (copy and paste it into your browser window, DONT click on it): [URL]..

ActionScript 1/2 :: Text Alignment / Layout

Apr 15, 2008

I keep asking myself why Flash is so simple when it comes to text layout and finally today I was thinking that that really can't be, considering Flash is meant to layout text in web sites. In my text field, I am looking to create a half return, so if I want space between two paragraphs, I don't have to use an empty return each time. Kind of like p padding in css. I also want to create a tab order in my text field, for better alignment of information. I am looking to create the look of two columns, where I have a date with a paragraph associated with it, with the paragraph being more then one line of the date, but staying indented. Lastly, and I am assuming this is a given, I would like the text to come from a xml or html file.

Professional :: Resizing Text Messes Up Alignment?

I'm using the following code to resize user input text when it gets too long for the textfield. The resizing seems to work fine but when it resizes it it becomes left aligned and is outside the textfield. I only see the end of the text. It's as though it's centering to the cursor instead of the text. If I use the arrow keys to back up the text it snaps into the center of the textfield like it should have been from the start.[code]

ActionScript 3.0 :: Text Alignment - Adding An Image In The TLF

Apr 9, 2011

I have a problem with the TLF text alignment issue. The problem comes when am adding an image in the TLF text and some text in the text box after the image tag and setting the format tag to leftMargin.<TEXTFORMAT LEFTMARGIN = "20">Some text goes here< /TEXTFORMAT>. what am expecting is if i insert a image tag means it needs to come in the first column and text in the second column just like the normal textfield. For normal text the  TEXTFORMAT tag is working perfectly for TLF its not working is there any chance to rectify the problem.

Below is the text what i have given in the Tlf textbox please check it with the normal text also tlf_txt.htmlText = '<img src = "[URL]" width = "10" height = "10" align = "texttop"/><TEXTFORMAT LEFTMARGIN = "20">Fonts should be embedded for any text that may be edited at runtime, other than text with the Use Device Fonts setting. Use the Text Font Embedding command to embed fonts.</TEXTFORMAT>'

ActionScript 3.0 :: Text Field - Alignment With Sigle Textfield?

Apr 6, 2009

Lets say i have a AS code

a.text = "OOO " + "BRO
";
a.text+= "iii " + "BRO
";

If we type in a notepad then it is proper,But in the .swf , it's like the below image.It is clear in a Flash text field each character uses different width. So it doesn't line up the text properly. I mean, like in the example, second line "BRO" is a bit left as compared to "BRO" in first line. Is there any setting/code that i can use so that it displays like above image of the notepad where each character consumes same amount of screen space so that character in each line lines-up properly.

EDIT: There is some typo in the title . Please ignore. The title is "Text Field - character alignment within single textfield"

IDE :: Dynamic Vertical Scroll Within Flash

Feb 5, 2010

I have a long column of text set Roman and Bold originally in InDesign CS2. I intend to use the type as a dynamic vertical scroll within Flash. But I cannot retain the type styles! I have:

1. saved the original ID text files as .jpg, .png and find the reproduction inferior to Flash set type. (importing.pdf files into flash looses characters!). Flash cannot read .eps or ID files. So I tried copy and pasting original ID text into Flash. It looked good but the bold style was converted to roman.

2. There is no way in Flash I can find to convert selected single lines to bold!
I have tried highlighting a line and selecting Text>Font the bold font; - all text becomes bold! I have highlighted a line and used the Properties Style Bold button; - All text becomes bold! Apparently I cannot select a line of text without the whole text block becoming live.

3. My choice appears to be A. re-type all text in Flash or B. Place text in xml file linked to the scroller.

Text Not Aligned In Vertical Center Of Text Field?

Jul 10, 2009

I am having a problem with my text alignment and I can't figure out a way to correct this. Unfortunately, I'm using a mac with CS3 and a Windows computer with CS4, so it could either be an OS difference, a version difference, or a software bug which I can't figure out.

For some reason, the text on my Mac with CS3 are not in the vertical center of the text fields. This causes a problem with my "align vertical centers" alignments, meaning I've had to do the alignment by hand to get it to look right. When I moved my file to my laptop to keep working on my project at home, I noticed that the text alignment was correct on my laptop, causing all of the text placement throughout my document to be off. This means that I can only work on the one computer and can't bring the project home to work through the weekends.

I have made an image showing the difference of how the text is aligned on the two versions, and a sample of how it affects my project when i bring it between computers.

I made the file on the mac (CS3) first, and so the alignment is designed to look correct on there. When i bring it to the PC (CS4) the text shifts down, placing it back in the center of the text boxes and ruining the alignment.

When I publish the file it keeps the formatting of each system. IE - publishing on the mac makes the final product look like it does on the mac, and publishing on the windows computer makes it look like it looks on the windows computer. The file published from the mac has the mac alignment on both computers, and the file published from the pc has the alignment of the pc on both computers.

Professional :: Align Text In Vertical Center Of Text Box On Mac

Update: I downloaded a trial CS4 and the problem persists.  This seems to be a mac issue. For some reason, the text on my Mac with CS3 are not in the vertical center of the text fields. This causes a problem with my "align vertical centers" alignments, meaning I've had to do the alignment by hand to get it to look right. Just to clarify, the way flash handles text fields on windows / cs4 is how I imagine it should be. I made the file on mac/CS3 however, and so when i said "ruins the alignment" I should have said "fixes the alignment problem, but breaks my alignment which was made to compensate for the problem I was experiencing."
