ActionScript 2.0 :: Vertical Scrolling Dynamic Text That Can Be Separate Clickable Links?

I am wondering how to make a movie clip that contains automatic vertical scrolling dynamic text(from an external .txt file) I dont want to press buttons to scroll text, I need it to be constantly scrolling, then loop once the text has been read from the external txt file.
I also require each line of the dynamic text to be clickable links that will take each line of text to a specific link. Ive uploaded a zip file containing fla and swf i found which shows vertical scrolling text. However if i move any of the graphics and text field clips around the stage the text cannot be seen anymore. why is this? can you put all of the items on the main stage in a movie clip so i can resize and move the scroller around the stage?? I tried this but again the text disapeared when i exported the movie? Is this due to the x + y co ordinates in the scripting?
How can you adjust the size of this scroller without this happening? Can the scrolling text be taken from an external file and each line of text be a seperate hyperlink? Follow this link (copy and paste it into your browser window, DONT click on it): [URL]..
I have developed a rolling credits style movieclip in Flash using Actionscript 2. Text is loaded from an XML file and parsed into a dynamic textfield. This text includes hyperlinks to webpages defined by a url node in the xml so Flash can add the appropriate a href to the dynamic text field and make the link clickable.
In my first attempts to do this the textfield stayed still and all the links worked fine both testing locally and when I run it in a browser on my website.Then I wanted to make things move ... which I achieved easily enough and tested locally (from within Flash Professional) and the links remained clickable, a browser window opened and the webpage i was expecting to see opened... great
However, when I export the swf, upload it and run it from my website suddenly the links are not working. So I tried to test the movie in a browser from Flash Pro - same problem, it must be something to do with Flash Player and the moving dynamic textfield.
a couple of observations - the cursor will change to a hand icon when over the links as you would expect, and if I right click on the link and click open in a new window the link works ok, just not when I left click. If I stop the scrolling then the links become clickable again, it is only when the textfield is moving... actually its not technically scrolling, im moving the whole textfield.
I have a scrolling dynamic text box that has a list of links in it. They all have a different link added for each line in the list but I have been asked to make them change colour on rollover. Normally I would just create a button and rollover but I can't as the text is scrolling. Is there a way of adding AS2 or even css that means I can make each link change colour on RollOver?
i found i can get vertical dynamic text block by setting to vertical and then to dynamic. But, then it ends up being horizontal, and if inside a clip, only the letters over another item in clip show. Like veritcal text on a vertical bar gives only the 1 or 2 letters that fit across bar, rest truncated. i've tried embedding text to get this far, but still doesn't work 'all the way' i see online they talk about all scripting for dynamic, vertical text; is that necessary, or am i missing something??
What I need to do is assign 5 separate dynamic text fields to 5 seperate buttons and at the same time to those same five buttons i would like to add 5 images that i would be able to change merely by swapping out the images in the file theyre in on the server.I would also like to get a nice transition between the images...ALSO i want to dynamically load the images for the buttons that will be used for switching from picture to picture(which im thinking i will be able to do after i know the how to do point the aforementioned things.)
Through tutorials I've found around the net I've been able to get most of the parts together... but i get lost because what they show you for AS2 they don't for AS3 and vice versa, at least that ive seen.so... I guess my question is... would i need to set up 5 seperate dynamic text fields on the stage and then set each one of them to one of the corresponding button. If so what AS code would i need to use to do so. And if not what would i need to do?
The other part of the question would be I know about the UILoader... would i be able to use it as my buttons and images, if so would i need 5 seperate ui loaders for both the Thumbnail buttons and the images or is there a way that would be better to do it? and once i do that would i do the transitions using frames and tweens like with AS2?
When the links are scrolling randomly and stops on mouse over almost like on this website but the links appear in an order oif your site has many many pages and sections it will the webmaster to display the different sections of the site to the visitors by randomly scrolling the links from and external html page.
I put a text area component on stage and set the vertical scrolling to Auto, so now when ever I have to much text the scroll bar pops up, but the problem is that I can't get the scroll bar to always be on the bottom, so when ever I add more text I always have to use my mouse and drag the scroll bar to view the latest info, is there a way that I can see the latest update without having to manually scroll down?
I have created a vertical menu that scrolls through menu items in a movie clip.There is a big white gap when the movie clip runs out, and it snaps back to the beginning.I would like it to scroll seamlessly, having the end join up with the beginning again without any space.I would like it to scroll to one end of the list and STOP, and scroll back the other way and STOP - without any white space.URL...
The problem:If I uncomment either of the imageText.embedFonts lines, my text will disappear... but the trace(imageText.text); will still return the correct contents. It's as though embedFonts causes the textField to disappear.Possibly related, (but maybe not), is the fact that the vertical positioning of the font is off. Even though I create the textField at Y = 0, the text writes somewhere around Y = 10. I suspect this is something else, but I thought I'd add it just in case.
I have created a basic symbol with dynamic text, so that I may have many of the same symbol and script the text that shows up on the symbol. When I have the text box in a horizontal orientation the text shows up in my animation but when I turn it into a vertical orientation my text does not show up. Unfortunately I need the symbols to have vertical text.

When I test the swf in flash or just open it manually, all is fine, texts are okay.But whenever it's in a htmlpage (using swfobject or the standard flash method), all the multiline textfields turn from horizontal to vertical expanding text, so a large column of 1 character.Even my backup site acts the same way. It's driving me crazy. And my client.I installed a couple of new browsers a couple of days ago, and I remember I had to update my flashplayer. Maybe this is relevant? I just don't know.
Coworker is developing a Flash project and has a small dynamic text field inside a movieclip. Imagine the text field being 200 pixels wide by 50 high, and sitting at the top of the canvas. As she moves her mouse around the LOWER part of the canvas, directly 'under' the text field, her cursor changes from the standard arrow, to the vertical bar (that is used for text selection). This is inexplicable and odd and is also interfering with her ability to do other things in the project. Has anyone seen this behavior? She has turned off 'Selectable' for the text field but that doesn't help things.

I've been asked to modify this flash piece (CS3, AS2) and add clickable links to the pop up menu. For the life of me I can't get it to work, and my head hurts from searching the web top to bottom for an answer. I would attach the fla but its too large, but basically you scroll over a button, in this case a dot, and it triggers a pop up box beside it with a list of items. These are generated by frame identifiers, and when you roll over the box it goes away. I need it to stay there and make that list of items clickable ones.
I'm trying to make a twitter application for an assignment I have for uni. It's going to basically be a word association game of sorts, where a user enters a word to search for, and the latest tweet with that word gets displayed; this is where I'm up to: I want to make it so that the user then clicks on one of the other words in that tweet, and then the application searches for that word. I can't figure out how to get the text to refer back to itself so that it, for example, returns a string that I can pass back into the code and re-search for it.
I have a dynamic text box which loads variables from a PHP file (which in turn loads everything from a mySQL database) and there are links in it. When loaded, the links look like links, but they do not act like links. They are not clickable at all. I don't understand what's wrong because I used the same exact technique on another site (actually the predecessor of what I'm working on) and it worked perfectly. i'm bringing text in from an xml file into a dyn text box. is there anyway to incorporate a hyperlink in that dynamic text? i want to have a paragraph and then have links in it.
the dyn text box text will change depending on user interaction and different links from the xml will appear.
[URL] thats the actionscript i have for a button. It makes the text appear... but, they don't work as links :S the dynamic text box (info) is set to use html, but all it does is display: Links... Click a link to get to the website! <a href="[URL]">.
I'm to make a clickable map divided in regions, where it is possible to see some info when you rollover the precisely defined regions, and when you click on that region > go to a specific website. Is it the best way to make this in Flash or are there other or easier ways?
I have created a RSS feed viewer, parsing the RSS feed with actionscript 3.0 and viewed on the stage in dynamic text boxes. The text in these dynamic boxes is scripted to link to web addresses contained in the RSS feeds in the same node as the text being displayed. So far so good. Now I need the text in these boxes to act as if they were HTML links and show an underline and color change when rolled over and clicked on.

I'm building an app where pretty much all the text is pulled in from XML, including the nav. It's linked to a MySQL database which throws XML into the app via PHP...I want the nav to be a dynamic menu made via the number of nodes in the XML file, and it'll end up looking like the 'related videos' menu on you tube. I've got this working by making a movie clip with a text field in it... the app loops through the XML, gets the number of nodes, then dynamically creates the nav via instances of my movie clip with a text field in it...
So say I've got 3 nodes, all of which are going to be nav items... The app then dynamically creates 3 movie clips, positions them onstage, populates the text field inside each movie clip with the name of the link (taken from the XML), and adds an onRelease action to each movieclip. The problem is, because of the nature of the app, the nav could grow to about 50 items over time, so I was gonna make it sit in a box with a scroll bar, like the side menu of related video clips on you tube.
I want to know if I can ditch the movieclips and just use a dynamic text field, and then make use of the scroll bar component so that, when the nav is generated, a scroll bar appears if there are too many items for the nav box to hold. In order to do this I need to know if I can launch action script via a link assigned to some dynamically created text... If not I guess I'll just have to make my own little scroll bar that affects the dynamically created movieclips but I thought I'd ask anyway!
When a user clicks on a URL, I want the new page to open up in a new window (or tab),instead of always in _self, which of course replaces the movie. I've trace'd the htmlText contents, and see TARGET="" where it's building the clickable links, which I assume the browsers interpret as the same thing as _self. Is there some better way to change the target for any URLs, short of doing a search and replace of the htmlText field
I've gone through an mp3 tutorial series and modified the final result for what i'm looking for. one thing i would like though is to be able to add another attribute in for a clickable button that links to another page that would have lyrics. so my xml would look like this i believe or something close <song name ="Test Track 4" band ="Band4" file="test4.mp3" lyrics="testlyrics.html" /> basically so it adds another button in after the track listing so you can click and view the lyrics that would be on a separate page. I don't quite understand how it all draws together in flash actionscript and how to put the lyrics attribute on another button.
