Aug 18, 2010I know ZERO about flash/actionscript and have been tasked with creating a vertical text/html scroller. This would act like a news ticker but would scroll several paragraphs of text with images vertically continuously.
Here is a sample of the data that i would like to scroll vertically:

some more text

more text
more text
This pattern would repeat and the script would continuously scroll the information. I will be pulling that data from XML as HTML but i think i have that part under control. Just cant seem to get a sample of scrolling html/text.

Feb 24, 2011I've gotten to chapter 5 in my AS 3.0 classroom book but I need to use wisdom today (CHAPTERS before I gain it for myself),I need to create a custom scroll bar with buttons that function just like the UIScrollBar but more visually suited to our projects. the boss demands it.
I found several tutorials on creating the custom scrollBar, however, they don't include the buttons and I'm unable to find a tutorial on how to create a button scroller (I figured I could link them both to my "info_txt" after creating them separately).
how to create an AS3 text scrollBar WITH buttons? how to create a nice scroll effect with buttons(if creating the scroll bar and buttons apart then linking them to the same text field is not possible or a faulty way to accomplish this).

Oct 13, 2004I am doing a dynamical menu they are scroll, with links, I am using as function. If I call an external swf:

That is ok... But, How I do to accede to a specific label of an external swf?? I want that it loads the animation and begin to it turns from the label that I indicate.

They all have a different link added for each line in the list but I have been asked to make them change colour on rollover. Normally I would just create a button and rollover but I can't as the text is scrolling. Is there a way of adding AS2 or even css that means I can make each link change colour on RollOver?

Sep 25, 2002I am wondering how to make a movie clip that contains automatic vertical scrolling dynamic text(from an external .txt file) I dont want to press buttons to scroll text, I need it to be constantly scrolling, then loop once the text has been read from the external txt file.
I also require each line of the dynamic text to be clickable links that will take each line of text to a specific link. Ive uploaded a zip file containing fla and swf i found which shows vertical scrolling text. However if i move any of the graphics and text field clips around the stage the text cannot be seen anymore. why is this? can you put all of the items on the main stage in a movie clip so i can resize and move the scroller around the stage?? I tried this but again the text disapeared when i exported the movie? Is this due to the x + y co ordinates in the scripting?

Jan 2, 2011coding some automatic scrolling text? i've had a look around the internet, but all i can find is text that is scrolled using buttons. what i'm after is a way of coding text so it loads up into a text box (which i will call tf) (to start off with i don't mind putting it into the code as static text), scrolls on its own, and when it get to the end, it repeats the scroll, and is neverending. i would like it to go vertical (that ups the page in case i've picked the wrong one!), and be able to pick the scroll speed so i can slow it down or make it go faster. if someone can give me some sample code to get me going that would be great, and i'll try to sort out the rest myself.

Feb 21, 2008I'm building an app where pretty much all the text is pulled in from XML, including the nav. It's linked to a MySQL database which throws XML into the app via PHP...I want the nav to be a dynamic menu made via the number of nodes in the XML file, and it'll end up looking like the 'related videos' menu on you tube. I've got this working by making a movie clip with a text field in it... the app loops through the XML, gets the number of nodes, then dynamically creates the nav via instances of my movie clip with a text field in it...
So say I've got 3 nodes, all of which are going to be nav items... The app then dynamically creates 3 movie clips, positions them onstage, populates the text field inside each movie clip with the name of the link (taken from the XML), and adds an onRelease action to each movieclip. The problem is, because of the nature of the app, the nav could grow to about 50 items over time, so I was gonna make it sit in a box with a scroll bar, like the side menu of related video clips on you tube.
I want to know if I can ditch the movieclips and just use a dynamic text field, and then make use of the scroll bar component so that, when the nav is generated, a scroll bar appears if there are too many items for the nav box to hold. In order to do this I need to know if I can launch action script via a link assigned to some dynamically created text... If not I guess I'll just have to make my own little scroll bar that affects the dynamically created movieclips but I thought I'd ask anyway!

The problem i am having is when it comes down to pulling this 1 set of information which is accessing the attributes of an array of specific XML nodes on display after the first item it inputs a comma before each item.

Sep 23, 2010I'm trying to get my website updated, which normally would not be a big deal, except that during the course of updates, I discovered my site was created using AS1 and now I have to convert to AS3, which seems like a foreign language to me. I'm making progress, except that my latest problem relates to custom buttons.On a couple of my pages I made a static text box into a movie clip and placed it behind a mask. I made custom buttons to fit into the look and feel of my site, which control the "text box movie clip". I don't want to use the generic "UI Scroll" that Flash gives you (even though it's probably the easy way out) because it doesn't fit with my site design.I was given code to use for my buttons, but I get an error when I test my movie.The error I get is an 1120 Error: "Access of Undefined Property" on lines 3 and 14.[code]

Mar 6, 2012I just got the trial of Flash Cs5 and haven't used Flash since MX back in 04-06. Having an issue with buttons now in context of a scrolling text area. My code is set up as such:

Where up is the button to scroll upwards and down is...(you guessed it). Maintext is the movieclip in which my text is which each frame being the text "scrolled" further. My issue IS: This was working just fine UNTIL I added "Over", "Down", and "Hit" frames into my buttons (whereas previously they were just single frame arrows), and then when previewing my flash the cursor doesn't even recognize the buttons as such, and nothing happens if you click on either... If I got back and delete the over, down, and hit frames, BOOM, problem goes away. This seems very strange to me, I never had a problem like this in MX.

1.) load XML file directed from php site and store all data to miltidimensional array
2.) load mc from library to stage and scroll it with mouse move
3.) load pictures into previous scrolling mc on calculated coordinates
4.) add event listener to every loaded pic to open new site
