ActionScript 1/2 :: Scrolling Multiple Text Fields Via 1 Scroll Bar - Removing Commas From Being Displayed In Array List?

I have been scripting this flash profile card which pulls data from multiple XML files. The problem i am having is when it comes down to pulling this 1 set of information which is accessing the attributes of an array of specific XML nodes on display after the first item it inputs a comma before each item.

This is just a draft version of the layout i used to pull up fake data... to show the commas.Lastly i am wondering if it is possible to control the 3 text fields using 1 scroll bar or would i be better off learning how to create columns in 1 text field to display these lists.

Ok, I have looked around and I know that this question has been asked many times but I still dont understand. I am developing an ROI calculator and need to acomplish two things, i think one will fix the other but here goes. 1. I need to make sure that when a user inputs their number in the input text field if they us a comma I dont get the NaN as a return. 2. How can I incorporate commas into the final calculation answer. For example if they enter 10000 my net result currently comes back as 105600. I would like it to come back as 105,600. I dont necessarly need to format as currency to make this work.
I am using CS5 and AS3 for the coding on this. I am not very expierenced in coding in Flash, as a matter of fact the fact that I have made it this far is amazing.

The 'recommendations' dataProvider is an ArrayCollection of String, which are generally sentences about as long as this one. By setting the variableRowHeight and wordWrap properties as shown, if a sentence is too long to fit on a single line, everything works fine- the row expands and the messages show on two lines, or occasionally three.
The space allocated for this panel within the entire canvas means if the total text size of 'recommendations' exceeds six lines, I need for the entire list scroll. This is also working just fine. The trouble is when using the mouse wheel to do the scrolling- Flex scrolls both the entire list and the single item where the mouse is hovering. Often this results in only the second half of a sentence being visible. Non-programmer friends I have asked to look at this noticed this, and tell me it as a problem. If a user does not notice the dual scrolling, and sees only a fragment of a sentence, it will be perceived as an error in the application.

I've very new to using Flash with AC3. I've got a small project that reads infomation in from XML files and creates a very two simple menus. The first being the years 2009,2008,2007 etc. (yearMenu_mc). When I click one of these it reads another xml file and builds another menu below (subMenu_mc). This is all working. What I cannot get to work is when I click another year I need it to clear the previous menus text, it just seems to keep over writing and I end up with text that I cannot read anymore. The code I've posted and tried works in one respect it does in fact reset subMenu_mc and I get clear text, but it seems to get rid of the background colour I had set for subMenu_mc.

I generated some duplicate text fields in actionscript via a for loop and just did the "addChild()" function to add each textbox to the screen. Now I would like to remove them, but how do I do this? Since the textfields all have the same name, I can't do a 'getChildByName()' function to remove them, and I also tried getChildIndex(), but I can't seem to get any of that working.
How do I delete the duplicate dynamic text boxes from the screen via Actionscript?

When I'm removing an object from the display list (via removeChild), I'm performing a splice on all of the arrays that the object has:

My thinking was that this frees up some memory similar to disposing a bitmapdata. Does this even do anything? Or, will arrays be cleared and the memory usage restored when the object is removeChilded?

I have a nice little Javascript that displays the date and line of text beneath it. It works great in a regular html page but now I am upgrading my page to flash but still would like and still would like to use this script (since I pretty much the whole year filled in, one line of text for each day). I tried to load it in a dynamic text box by geturl but I think I had the wrong actionscript.[code]

i've tried using createTextField() but you can only make 1 textfield if you give it a different instance name everytime you then should be able to make more but they just disappear.

Alright so lets say I have a number of movieclips or text fields or something with instance names test1, test2, test3 and so forth. Now say I want to fill these text fields with text that I have in an array and I want to do this with a loop, how do I do this? What I'm really asking is if there is a way to use a variable in an instance name if you catch my drift.

coding some automatic scrolling text? i've had a look around the internet, but all i can find is text that is scrolled using buttons. what i'm after is a way of coding text so it loads up into a text box (which i will call tf) (to start off with i don't mind putting it into the code as static text), scrolls on its own, and when it get to the end, it repeats the scroll, and is neverending. i would like it to go vertical (that ups the page in case i've picked the wrong one!), and be able to pick the scroll speed so i can slow it down or make it go faster. if someone can give me some sample code to get me going that would be great, and i'll try to sort out the rest myself.

I am working on a program that has several text fields and I need to control them all very simply by using actionscript. I have an idea how to do it, I just don't know if it is possible. Here is the basic idea:
I have 20 sets of text fields with 3 text field each. The first set are named "firstNumber1", "secondNumber1", and "total1"; the second set are named "firstNumber2", "secondNumber2", and "total2"; and so on an so forth. What I want them to do is add the first number and second number to reach the total. Rather than writing this formula 20 times

I would like to do them in the following manner:

What I have is two buttons that when clicked they add an input text field and a third button that puts a text field and gives you the total value of the two input fields after the user inputs some numbers, the problem is that the buttons adding the input fields can be clicked multiple times and of course adding a new input field each time they are clicked and as you can imagine when I try to add the values I only get the result of the last two fields added.
How can I tweak my code so it adds-up the total value of all input fields on the stage?
I didnt test my code it may have some errors, I just put it together to show the concept.

I've got a nice bit of code that allows me to dynamically add a dynamic text box to the stage, add text to it and control it's position and formatting:

This just makes the word "feisty" appear on the movie.The problem is that I want to create many words with different positions,different starting times, make them go away and then have different words appear. It would look like this:[URL]The swf at the link was created with After Effects and the file size is 1.5 MB - too big for a web banner. I was told I could recreate the whole thing dynamically with actionscript and get file size way down. I've been working through various tutorials with little luck.
I have a list of 100 words, how do I turn the code above into a cloud of words that appear one or two at a time? I assume I will put the words into an array, but then how do I get the code above to cycle through the array and pick up the position and format attributes?

What I am trying to achieve is to remove an array (containing a single MovieClip multiple times) from the stage alltogether, once you call an end public function. I can remove all the other Movieclips on stage (that are not in the array) using this.removechild(MyChild) The array is located in a package, calling another package where the MC is located, and put on stage with Event.ENTER_FRAME.

I try to create multiple text fields in a movieclip. However, the one created later always overwrite the one created immediately before it. Below is the code in the first and only frame in the application:

The code is writen in AS2 and Adobe Flash Professional CS5 and tested with Flash Player 10.
When I ran it in Flash Player 10, I only saw message2 displayed on the stage. When I stepped through the app in Adobe Flash Professional CS5, I found that as soon as message2 text field was created, message1 text field which was being displayed on the stage disppeared.

I am trying to take data from a single xml file and put the data into many text fields. I can get the first child to display but I get the following error for the rest of the children:

The code is coming up with [Text Object] instead of what the text actually is (and if I actually add .text it calls up absolutely nothing). This functions perfectly well when using the standard array without the sub-properties and {} brackets (so I think the problem might be somewhere in the push statements). I am not understanding what the error is (probably something blatantly simple, my only guess being some sort of conversion problem).
