I have a dynamic text field that displays text from an external file. The text file has lists of text such as a1=(text here)&w1=(text here)& etcI want to be able to make a button so that will add one to the word count, such as, a button that says "Next" and when i do that, it loads the text string A2, when i click it again, it loads A3
View 1 RepliesI'm trying to load an external html file into a dynamic text field. The dynamic text field has html display enabled. The html file contains a list of links in <a> tags, and nothing more. The dynamic text field is called 'dynamictext', and I've tried:
Code: Select allvar externaltextload:URLLoader = new URLLoader( );
externaltextload.load(new URLRequest("text/Links.html"));
externaltext.text=externaltextload.data;

I've had a Flash website up and running for about a year which includes an external text file linked to a dynamic text field.
Everything worked well until I recently added content to the external text file.
Suddenly, the file won't load in flash.
If I play around and cut a line here or there, it sometimes loads. Sometimes not. Sometimes it looks like there might be a character limit. Sometimes it looks like flash might be having a problem with certain characters.
So my questions are:
1.) Does Flash have a limit on the amount of characters that can be displayed in a dynamic field.
2.) If so, can this be changed with as3?
I am trying to load text from an external XML file into a dynamic text box. I have so far managed to load single parts of the XML file into a dynamic text field. I now want to be able to load different parts of the XML file (something similar to a string with appendText) into the same text Field. I have so far managed to achive this using the String and append text properties, but would like to use XML file to do it instead.
View 1 RepliesI have combed the Web and I can't seem to find the answer. All I want to do is display some html-formatted text, located within an external XML file, in a dynamic text field in Flash CS3.
I don't have any code to supply because at this point the only thing I'm trying to display in the text field is "<b>This</b> is a <a href="http://www.google.com">test</a>." For this hypothetical example, I could call the text field myTextField. I just need to know how to format the AS3 code to get the XML to display inside myTextField.
i have created plain text field and managed to load it from external file using the AS3 code below. Now i want to load multiple text field but this time in a button, how can i do that?
this is my button code: proposal_btn
var textLoader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
textLoader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, textLoaded);
[code].....
I cant load and external text file into my dynamic text box...when i trace the loaded var it can be found, but when it's loaded inside the text box, the value that appears is really strange.i tried to load the vars into the MC and on a level, the result is the same, it can be traced but does not appear correctly on the textbox..the code i used is here..i made a text box with about_us instance name, loaded the variables and tried to load my text inside it by setting the text property of the textbox but as u will see...
loadVariables("about.txt", "this");
about_us.text = about;
The desired affect is simple: I have a single button... with each click I want it to load text into a dynamic text field and load a corresponding picture or movieclip.There are only three unique text/image combinations- after its displayed the third, with the next click I want it to just start over. All the text functions perfectly with each click.
The problem is:I use "createEmptyMovieClip" then use the resulting clip as a loader clip.. With the first click I want a movieclip from the library to load, so I use the "attachMovie" method- it displays the first library fine.With the next click I want to load an external swf- so I call the "loadMovie" method of the loaderclip... The external swf loads just fine replacing the first library clip.The third clip is where I have problems... now I want to load another library item into the loaderclip... so I tried using the attachMovie method again but the external swf remains static... then with the next click, I discover the first library item no longer loads and the external swf remains still playing- it's like once it's been loaded into the loaderclip it cant be moved...
So I tried adding the "unloadMovie" method in the code for the third click.. it successfully removed the swf... but the next line of code immediately after the unload statement, doesn't work. The line calls the attachMovie method for the loaderclip... but the library item doesnt load... Oddly enough, with the next click, the first library item now does load as if everything's fine... It seems like you cant use the unloadMovie and attachMovie on the same executing code? if that makes any sense... the basic idea was that if I couldnt get the attachmovie method to replace the loaded external swf, then I would use the unload method to remove it, then have code immediately after, to then execute the attachMovie method... but it still doesnt load the library clip. and I know it's not a type-o, because when I comment out the loadMovie and unloadMovie statements, it loads both the library items perfectly ? The code is below
var increment:Number = 1;
var verbiage1:String = "Hello World1";
var verbiage2:String = "Hello World2";[code].............
I made a scrollbar, but now I have a problem, need to read the number of lines of Dynamic text field and if it is greater than x show the scrollbar and hide if is less. Like this:
if(text.instance>7){
scrollbar._visible = true;
}
else{
scrollbar._visible = false;
}
My problem is how do I count the total lines of dynamic text field after load a external text.
When a user enters the website, it will pull text from some location (possibly an XML file) and load it into a text field. The trick is that I want it to randomly load a different chunk of text in each time the user opens the site. There are about 25 different small pieces of text I want to randomly load.
I'm thinking of using XML to store the 25 different text sentences, but am open to other ideas.
I am trying to have a dynamic text field that will load English text. using
Code:
loadVariables("content/english/text.txt.", this);
I want to have a button that on user click it would change the loaded text to spanish lets say or german.
I have this test1.txt that I want to importIn my movie I have a dynamic textfield called example1 with the value test1I want to load the external text into the movie from that dynamical text field.Something like that:loadVariablesNum("(example1.text).txt", 0, "GET");
View 3 RepliesI am trying to load xml data into a dynamic text field. I am able to load, and trace the data but cannot display it into a dynamic field. Here is what i have:
Code:
var xmlLoader:URLLoader = new URLLoader()
xmlLoader.load(new URLRequest("directory.xml"));
xmlLoader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, showXML);
[code]....
What I am trying to achieve, is to produce what I've traced into the dynamic field. Also if there is a way to do that when a button has been clicked. I tried making the function showXML a mouse event, but it didn't work.
I have a class and function and I have to load my text through class->function[code]...
View 5 RepliesI have an external text and i want to make some hotspots in this text preferably with actionsscript in flash so the next functions can be added in flash:
when somebody goes over it with the mouse it displays the position and some hover text and when the mouse goes over it or selects/clicks it, thats has to be registert. I think some of these functions can easily be made in flash so thats why flash has to identify the specific word in the text file.
So i have the text: "this is an example text" and i want flash to identify "example" as an hotspot or clickable word, when the mouse goes over it, it should display position and something should remember that the word has been clicked.
Is there any way to set up a variable for this? Or another method to do it?
I am trying to grab a string that is loaded into my dynamic text field and use it as a variable.
The text field is populated when another button is pressed first which says input_txt.text = "myInput"
...I gave my dynamic text field the instance name input_txt
So I wrote out (on a separate button):
on (release) {
var input:String = input_txt;
trace(input);
}
I get "undefined" as my output
I have a zoomable map which will have different locations which you click on and then load the details for that location in a dynamic text box..problem being I cannot get my script to work at all as I need it to relative to each button(location)
Here's what I have so far for one test location:
on (release) {
mytext = new LoadVars();
mytext.text = content;
[Code]....
mytext is the dynamic text field
textest is the text I want to load
I have all files saved in the same directory, but when I click on my location its as though its looking for the text files on my desktop.
texttest2 is a blank text doc which I want to load to mimic the text disappearing
I followed this tutorial (url...) in order to load text from an external file and apply css styles to it. BUT my problem is that the text is under a mask. Embedding the font results in an empty text box, not embedding a font results in the same thing.
View 2 RepliesI have the following code:
Code:
myData = new LoadVars();
myText_txt.html = true;
myData.onLoad = function() {
myText_txt.htmlText = this.myVariable;
};
myData.load("events.php");
I have a text box on my page that has an instance name of myText_txt so it should load the data from the events.php into the text field. I've enabled HTML on the text box and made it dynamic and multiline. When I output the PHP file the text box is blank. Here is the PHP file:
PHP Code:
<?php
echo "&myVariable=This is some text. Here is a link: <a href="http://espn.com">ESPN</a><br><br><br> Here is <img src="arrow2_as2" id="arrow2_as2">";
?>
why it won't output any of the HTML text?
I know this is a tutorial on this site but I'm having trouble finding it, and its been a while so I can't remember exactly how to do it. I just need to make a dynamic text field that you can edit via text file.
View 12 RepliesI have a dynamic textfield being populated with an xml files' content. I then have a css stylesheet loaded into format the text. This all works great, but what doesn't work is the ability to bold some of the words in that text. I have both the regular and bold versions of the font embedded into the swf, I can test out just a bold block of text and it works fine. The css is also working as it will change the size of the text that I tell it to. Everything is working, but for some reason I am not able to get the bolder version of the font to display in the same text box as the regular one. I have also tried to change fonts but had the same outcome.

View 12 RepliesI have a very basic flash document, with a dynamic text field called myText, and a script to load an external html-file into that field. The script is from a tutorial somewhere, so I'm not 100% sure it's optimal, but it works. What I want to do is modify this code so that a clicking a button in this document will switch the input file from demo.html to another HTML-file, say demo2.html.
var url:String = "demo.html";
var loadit:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
loadit.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, completeHandler);

I have an xml file loading text into a dynamic text field. What would the AS be to fade it in?
View 3 RepliesI'm trying to load in xml test data into a dynamic text field.
this is my code so far:
var me_XML:XML;
var xmlLoader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
xmlLoader.load(new URLRequest("me.xml"));

This, however, loads all the text in with tags. How would i go about accessing each node so i can remove the tags so I can apply a css style to each section??
I have a text field and I fill its content dynamically with an xml, however i noticed that my customer wants some words to be links, is it possible for me to load a sort of html text into a text field? id like also to create links in some words inside the text field and put listeners to only those specific words, its that possible?
View 4 RepliesDoes anybody know how to apply this text effect [URL](including the blinking underscore) to a text field that loads from an external .txt file.
View 6 RepliesI'm working with my .fla file and an external .as file. I've got things working the way I want and now I'm trying to add a dynamic text field to my .fla file. I've added the dynamic text field to the stage manually (not via action script code) and when I go to publish my file I get the following error message. 1046: Type was not found or was not a compile-time constant: TextField. Do I need to add an "import" to the front of my .as file? I currently have these import statements... import flash.display.MovieClip; import flash.display.Bitmap; import flash.display.Loader; import flash.events.*; import flash.net.*;

If I hardcode the file name in the code, then it works fine. This is on the first frame of my movie, which holds the dynamic text field.

myData = new LoadVars();
myData.onLoad = function(success)

Is there a trick to defining url's for dynamic text fields? Because if I hardcode the path from the server, it works locally, but again not on the server...
Could it be a problem of permisson (since the url of the txt is from a different page than the one the swf is on)?
