ActionScript 2.0 :: Refresh Variables With New Data?

I am tying to find a way to refresh variables with new data. I am using PHP and MySQL to randomly assign new data to a variable when the script is called. This new data is passed to Flash as in a variable using these functions:

So my problem is that every time I call my movie to go to this frame that contains this actionscript, it does not provide me with new variables. Another important variable I need to change every time the frame occurs is startTime = getTimer(); However, the variable startTime will stay they same and not change when the frame is recalled.
I'm using swfObject to load my flash. I need to call a function or pass new variables into the flash file without it reloading. The user clicks on a button and the flash text needs to change. I have it working but it reloads the flash file and looks very choppy.
I have created a little virtual shop that reads the amount of money a player has and then enables different products to be bought. Eg - if someone has 200 points they can buy a ball for 20 or a bat for 200. This all works fine for one purchase. All of the items check the score and are enabled or disabled fine. However, say I purchase the ball - the points reduces by 20 to 180 - not a problem - but the bat is still enabled even though the variable has reduced so they can't afford it.Is there a way of refreshing the variable so that the items are constantly monitoring the variable amounts?[code]I put it in an mc so that if they buy the item it goes to a different frame where there is no mc to check the myscore var and therefore they've bought it!
how to refresh the dynamic varaibles using the loadVariables command? At the moment they are caching on the web - but it works the way i want it when tested in Flash.
I have a Flash app that uploads an xml file using URLLoader() and URLRequest(). But this file gets overwritten every 10-30 minutes with fresh data. The only way I've found so far to view changes in the xml data is to refresh my web page (F5 or Ctrl-->F5). Short of turning to Javascript, isn't there some way for Flash to refresh its xml data?
Calling a simple refresh (like with a simple arraycollection as a dataprovider, or with a refresh on the Grouping Collection) does not work. Also re-assigning the arrayCollection to the Hierarchical Data and then assigning this one again to the Datagrid does not work (even with calling invalidateProperties() or validateNow()).
3. Part number is returned from server with a string of results (manfacturer, product location, number of stock, size, image)
4. Flash takes the results and places them in to their apprpriate display text fields and loads the image also.
All this works great EXCEPT when you try a second, third, fourth...time.
I trace all the responses and get new and correct results for every part number I enter, but it simply won't overwrite the previous displayed data. Nothing I try will get rid of the last results!
I'm very new to Flash, but I have an app that uses mult widgets. What I need to know is if one of my widgets data changes can I force another widget on the screen to force it to refresh its data.
When updating the data provider for a menu bar component, the state of the menu items fails to update until the user interacts with the menus (rolls the mouse over them, clicks them, etc). For example, a disabled item remains enabled until the user roll the mouse over it. Is there a way to force a menu 'refresh' after modifying the data provider XML?
I'm writing code that takes data from mysql that's processed by a PHP script. It's actually a bit bizarre, at least to me. Anyway, here's some basic AS3 code that's moving toward what I want to do:

For some reason, the statement "trace(evt.target.data);" produces a whole pile of garbled text before the actual stuff that it's supposed to show Because of problem #1, I've had to include a throwaway variable at the beginning, otherwise the first variable I try to pass into AS3 comes back as undefined. This causes errors when I run my flash movie in the IDE, but when I run it from the browser it doesn't seem to have any effect.But this is the strangest thing of all whenever I make any changes to the database (and subsequently try to load data from different variables), the new variables come back as undefined. For example, let's say that I add another entry to the database, and decide to load students 2, 3, and 4 instead of 1, 2, and 3. When I do that, any new data I've added comes back as undefined, even though when I view the PHP output in my browser, it looks just fine.
And now for the REALLY bizarre part: I'll copy that output, paste it into my PHP script as an echo statement, comment everything else out, and my flash movie runs fine. Even though the output from the PHP script is exactly the same, it gives me errors.
I had an issue with my index.html testing on IE and the preloader just stalls on "loading 0%". he told me that locally the progress event doesn't have time to load and to try uploading it to your server and see if it works. It worked just fine. Rah Rah Kglad.
So today I'm fine tuning the swf/ fla to clean it up. Reduced some picture sizes and deleted unused files and reduced the swf from 4000 KB to 350 KB Rah Rah Gene. replaced the swf in Dreamweaver and re-uploaded with Filezilla. Rah ah Filezilla.
Everything working great and my preload went from 23 seconds to less than 3. So I'm real happy except for one small issue. Firefox and IE both do this. If I hit the refresh button, it stalls on "loading 0%" once again just like it did locally.
If I hit the refresh several times it WILL refresh randomly....2 times refresh......10 times refresh etc.

Spoke to my hosting company who said everything seems fine on the server. BTW he said Chrome did NOT have this issue Rah Rah Chrome.
I am using loadvariablesnum to load some variables from my php doc, is there a way i can test to see if its loaded or not to jump to the next frame..? Right now I am having it load into a string.text to test if there is text in it, but I don't want to use a string.text
I am using the following code to try and post variables to a URL, but the SEND command is still posting the variables via GET. // ls_print is the URL I am attempting to POST to lv_request.send(ls_print, "_blank", "POST"); This is what the documentation says, so I'm lost.
I am working on the contact form for a website that is done entirely in flash. The following is the code I have for sending the variables to the emailForm.php script that I created. The only problem I'm having is that everytime you send the contact information, a new web browser window opens up (it opens the php file in the web browser). I'm testing this on my local server and it works great, except for the fact that everytime I send it, I dont want a new browser window opening up.
I'm working on a flash vote counter that uses xml to load the counts. it doesn't load any value for me and I'm getting no error messages. every time I run this when I click either button 0 gets displayed in the text boxes. if I manually set the totals it displays properly so I know the problem has to do with my xml.

I'm working on an interactive quiz where the user's responses will be incremented to a poll in a CMS. I have a url that automatically increments the answer choice in a poll, so I would like to use sendToURL to call the url without actually passing any data or variables. It seems to work with navigateToURL, but that opens a blank window in the browser (a complete nuisance every time you answer a quiz question).
Here is the navigateToURL code that increments the poll successfull, but opens the unwanted browser window

I tried replacing "navigateToURL" in the first option to sendToURL and it wasn't incrementing the poll.

I'm not even sure if this is possible, but I'm looking to retrieve a string from an embedded XML file, using a variable as the XML element's name. Here's what my code currently looks like, although it doesn't quite work:

I'm not massively familiar with the XML format, so apologies if I've not explained myself very well. As you can hopefully see, I have one XML file containing my map data and another containing my text, such as area titles and locations. What I'm trying to retrieve in the example above is the string with the label "title_training" from the "text_XML" file. Of course, the function should be able to return the title for any area, so I need to find a way of converting "_element" in to the right format

i have edited an open source flv player's fla file for my needs,but ihave some problem.it uses XML when getting video source URL but i want it to read from QueryString or a variable from ASP.How Can i do this? the original codes are like this,these are for reading from XML source;
