I have a screenshot in a scrollable field (Flash CS3/4) and have put a button on the screenshot so when the user clicks it's supposed to call up a movie clip of bubble with a description of the section. I'm not finding the best way to call this movie clip up.

I tried it but when I click right on the button, it says "cannot place actionscript directly on an object" Must the different buttons be on different layers?(In my project, they are on the last page of my site)
View 10 RepliesI'm trying to print the contents of a scrollable text field. Why after all these years this is such an impossible task in Flash is beyond me. But maybe I'm overlooking something?
Right now I have two text fields. One for display and one for printing that is hidden from the user and is roughly the size of A4 paper. The content of the print text field is scrolled as many times as is necessary and each time is added to a print page.
The function looks like this:

Unforntunately this is not very reliable because the size of the print text field does not correspond exactly to the size of the A4 paper and of course the print margins set by the user can differ as well. This results in an overlap of text between the different pages coming out of the printer.

How do I print what is not viewable within the scrollable text field? Oh yeah, and I don't want to parse the XML content and dynamic Flash conent into several diff frames to print like that since I am using 1 scroller to handle like 30 diff pieces of XML & Flash driven content.

I've built a scrollable text field of alphabetical titles.I looking for actionscript that works something like anchor tags in HTML. (Or a simple way to do it).Even though it scrolls a - z, I also want the user of having the option of clicking on an alphabetical menu from above the text field and then the text field would jump to that letter of the alphabet.
View 0 RepliesI've got my canvas size at 900x600 pixels, the text i want on the screen is too large for the site's design, so i want to have the text in the middle with 2 scroll buttons UP - DOWN on the right hand side of the text. [let me point out i dont want the scrollbar from components cos it doesnt go with my sites colors]. So thats not an option.
I looked online and it said 'make a text box, select 'scrollable' then create a button and right click and type in the following into the actions' but when i right click the buttons actions i always get 'current selection cannot have actions applied to it' There was a reason i stopped using flash, and it seems ive stumbled upon that reason again, im reading tutorials on the CS3 Pro version which is the one i have and what its telling me to do is not possible.

how to create a custom scroll bar without using the UI components. Unfortunately, the author has deleted the video but still provides the source files which I have began to pick apart. Although this scroll bar works great, I am working on a movieclip of scrollable thumbnails that only uses buttons to scroll and not the scrollbar it self. it seems as though the buttons control the movie clip based on the position of the scroll bar/scroller.

I've made a scrollable window that basically scrolls some text and images. I'd like the images to link to another site but I'm having trouble getting the invisible buttons to scroll with the images.Here's the AS I'm using for the scrollable content:

Is it possible to login through flash using one Dynamic Text Field and one Input Text Field and no buttons? If so how? I have seen many tutorials dealing with logging in to PHP using flash but it requires you to make your own php scripts which i am not familiar with. 1. on the stage I have text field - here is loaded external html file
2. two buttons - up and down
3. no scroll bar
and questions:
1. when user scroll text on the bottom of text field "down" button must to be set off (up button is on)
2. when user scroll text on the top of text field "up" butoon must to be set off (down button is off)

I have a dynamic text field and have two buttons. All I want the buttons to do is to scroll up or down a couple lines everytime its clicked. AS2 had something like this:

I've got my XML file loaded and parsing correctly with a trace statement.
I want to have each text identified as marketLocation1, marketLocation2, etc up to 150 and I wanted to use a 'for loop' to place the value of that XML node into each labeled text field, and each individual text field is buried inside a button so that the button displays on mouseover an associated XML fields data. Each button would also be corresponding labeled market_1, market_2, etc.
Meaning, I mouse over a dot on a map (button) and it pulls up a statistics balloon about that location specific to our companies needs. I'm a total AS3 noob, so I'm not sure if I can preload the data for that button into it's specific text fields.

I have markets divided up into regions. I have the base map, which when you click each region goes to a new labeled scene on the root timeline. The scene shows a closeup version of the region. On that region are the dots for the markets. Each dot would have an up state and over state (displaying the pop-up balloon with data) etc.
I'm working on the first 'button' as the initial test and what I want to do is make is that i can use a For loop to cut down on the code, using the variable i in place of the "1,2,3..."
The first button, market_1 is in a labeled scene SERegion on the main timeline. While the code I'm using to parse all the fields is in frame 1.
When I try to place the value of marketLocation located inside the button market_1, I am trying to do this when I parse the data

When i compile, i get the error 1119: Access of possibly undefined property marketLocation through a reference with static type flash.display:SimpleButton
MarketLocation is also in just the Over state of the button.
i have a dynamic text field which is filled by a list of attributes pulled from an external xml file... this is working fine... i would like to now turn each of these text attributes into a 'button', essentially giving them all event listeners but have no idea where to start for this...? can you turn text field data into interactive objects? or is there a better way to turn xml data into links?
View 2 RepliesI'm using a Loadvars to change a text field with buttons, and would like a transition between the text field changes. I have an MC for the transition that moves a block to cover the text at label "up" and one to come down, revealing the new text at label "down". so i did

but the problem is that all those actions happen at once, the text changes before it is covered and the transition MC spazzes out because it doesn't know which to goto first. Is there I can set this function up to be more ordered, so it plays "up" and THEN loads the text, and THEN goes down.
using buttons to enter digits into a dynamic text field. An example would be an atm machine, where you select digits 0 - 9, you can hit OK or Cancel to clear the field. I can use...

(1) How do I link the various buttons to the specific text field.
(2) How do I create the OK button to initiate another action, such as playing a movieclip etc.
(3) How do I cancel the items currently in the field.
I have looked over various tutorials on making calculators, but it is very complex for my skill level.
I have created an organizational chart for the company I work for displaying all current employees. Each contact is shown as a button that displays a 'popup' window on rollover. All of this works perfectly. What I want is to create an option to click on each button and the individuals email address be added to a dynamic text field at the bottom of the page.
Just to clarify, I am able to have text entered into the text field on each click, however, clicking on the next button removes the previous text. I want each click to create a new entry in a list. For example: "contact1; contact2; contact3;" etc etc. The end result would be for the user to copy all text (email addresses) from the dynamic text box and paste it into their Outlook "To" section.

View 2 RepliesOk, so I got this huge image of a map. I put a Mask over it so it will fit on a small screen. But....I want users to be able to view the whole map but click on arrow buttons that will transfer them in all 4 directions. I know I can do this with keyframes, showing different parts of them map each stage....But isn't there a simplier way? Some sort of actionscript code that will tell flash to scroll how many pixels left or right or up or down? And that it will know that the image will stop here so don't scroll more than that?

I created a small rectangle and made it into a symbol movie clip. then I went inside of it and added a small 100x100 image on the left side along with a description of the image on the right side filling up the rest of the space.
I now want to somehow put it in a container that will automatically add a vertical scrollbar on the right side and somehow add more rectangles on top of each other. perhaps the scroll bar wont be initially on the screen until the container fills to have more than 5 rectangles in it or so.
Is there a component I can extend somehow to add this kind of functionality or does one already exist that I can use?
I want to put scrollable text on a page. It was a template I purchased and was finished and ready to post but wanted to add more text in a scrollable text box. First, my components did not appear in the components window so I had to go to Publish Settings and set it Actionscript 2.0 and they appeared. Great! I created a text box, made the text dynamic, multiline, I see Instance_1 and dragged the UI scroller where it should go. (Yes scrollable text is highlighted) After a thousand attempts it never recognizes it.
I can do it no problem when I create a new movie (a hundred times) just can't get it work in this movie. Yet I can scroll down the text with my mouse but I can't EVER see the scrollbar... When I switch the settings to Actionscript 3 . When I drag the Scroller it says "A component already exists..." then asks me to use or replace. Is there something in this template I need to delete?
