I have a movie clip where it contains an instance of text
I able to change the movie clip and text color individually
but when i try to change both at once the text color is same as movie clip color

So i'm working on this website and I want to be able to switch out the entire color scheme on the website everytime a button is pressed, I've stepped away from flash for awhile and actionscript 3 is new me. Plus I haven't quite found any truely useful stuff on forums yet.
What i can't figure out is when a button is pressed the HTML background color changes to one of 5 preselected colors (that alternate ever time the button is pressed). Then for each background change the text changes too as it is part of a entire new color scheme.
What I've managed so far is to change the color of the background thats within the Flash file. What i did was to make a movie clip that plays to a next frame and stop everytime the button is pressed. Now i just need to also get to change the HTML color and the font colors.
//"homeText" being the name of dynamic text field and "Button" the name of the button and "background" being the movie clip that is the background within the flash file.

I'm not sure if my code is just sloppy or if i'm completely going the wrong route here.
My buttonMC is build of:
1. shape (a rectangle gray color) converted to MC named = Bar
2. (on top of 1) DynamicText named = buttonText converted to MC named = buttText in order to change the color of the shape I decleard a veriable

I then add actionscript onRollOver
cButton.setRGB(nRed << 16 | nGreen << 8 | nBlue);
but it also changed the color of the text so I added a veriable for the text field
tButton = new Color(this.buttText.buttonText);
tButton.setRGB(0xFFFFFF);but that didnt help
this is bad becuse the text on the screen is unseen.
I'm trying to get the letters in a word (each letter is an individual text object) to cycle through three different colors when clicked. Right now, all they do is change from their original color, blue, to black when clicked. No further "cycling" occurs. I'm appending the code. The part of interest is (probably?) in what is presently (and inaccurately) the "traceTextEvent()" function/method. It starts around line 90 of the code.

1) Read my question, possible answers, and correct answer key from XML.
2) Print the question, 4 answers, and 4 radio buttons on the stage.
3) Clicking the submit button on the stage, checks the answer. The user gets feedback based on whether they are right or wrong.
1) When the user mouses over an answer, I want to change the text color.
Currently, only the color of the last answer is changing colors, and it's changing colors if I mouse over any of the answers.

I've got a string in AS3 composed of two elements that is dynamically assigned to a textField. I want to make one element one color and the other a different color. I have an array made up of nodes pulled from an XML file. Is it possible to change the text attributes (i.e. color or alpha) of one of these chunks of text.
So a very typical situation. XML is loaded into arrays. The text is loaded with a for loop into an empty movieslip. Looks like this:
text_obj.xmlNode1[n]
So lets say I want to do something to the color of array position 1. I set up a little function....

Seems like it should work, but doesn't Can I do this with dynamic text? Is there a workaround? I basically need to call out portions of the text during an animation. Think animated text highlighting.

In my combobox I have set all of the color names in the labels section, and all of their hex values in the values section. I am trying to be able to change the color of the movie clip using actionsctipt.My actionscript I have (attached to the combobox)

this time, I have a crosshairs custom-cursor (instance name 'crosshairs') that is black, and I want it to turn red whenever it is moved over a target that the user can 'shoot' at.asically, I am figuring that I simply need to perform a hitTest on the 'target' instance and, if it is true, use setRGB to turn the 'crosshairs' instance red. But then say, when the XML finishes loading and the user has decided to change the color of that textfield to red (0xFF0000), what would be the easiest way to change the text color of that field? I'm looking to change the color of text in a movieclip when the user clicks it(IE it'll turn red for wrong, and green for correct). I've set it up so it can do other things, like gotoAndPlay, I just can't get it to change color. Here's what I've got so far for AS. on click on "elements" i'm dynamically generating coloured boxes (all instances of the same symbol) and the colour of these boxes is applied through a colortransform. in the box there is a textfield and i want the the text to be colored according to the box color. i mean, if the box is dark the text has to be white, and viceversa.

I would like to have flash www page with dimentions 960x653 pixels. There will be 5 scenes navigated by buttons and each of the scene will have different background color. I would like to have fullscreen background also (filling the rest of the space), and to make it I used "Auto-Resizing and Centering Content", based on tutorial:

To make it working with my existing animation I made 960x653 UILoader instead the centerRectangle, and I loaded my swf animation there. Fullscreen background is working - when I scale window of the viewer the main scene keeps its dimentions and background fills the rest of the space, what is what I wanted to. My included animation is working perfectly.
But I still have one issue to solve. How to change my fullscreen background while switching scenes? Is it possible to change it from included swf animation?

View 5 RepliesI have a xml menu bar with the menu titles in black. This titles are loaded from an xml file into a dynamic text field inside a movieclip. Well, i would like to set the color of the menu items to red when clicked and back to black when any other menu item is clicked. I know there is a way with actionscript (i have been going on circles around the color class the hole afternoon ) but i cant find it (i admit, im quite a dummy with AS).

The user should have the option to change the color of a selection, This color should be applied to the selection in both the input and output textfield. After that the user should be able to further edit the text without loosing the fomatting.
But pictures say more than words so...
1. The user selects text and sets the color to yellow
2. The text color is set to yellow just like I want
3. This is the actual issue. When the text (in the input field) is edited all text in the ouput field goes black again That's not what I want, I want the colored text to stay colored when the input is edited.

My menu(code is by scotty)has 3 movieclip buttons, with text. I broke apart the text to change the color onMouseOver. Problem is the button only works when the mouse is pointed over the actual text, so it doesn't work properly, because the text is obviously very small. I can't put a "field" behind it, because it will become part of the MC, and thus will change color.
