Is it possible to find words and then pass them as variables from a text field?
For example if I have the following text inside a text field inside my flash file:
"Playing soccer is fun"
Is it possible to somehow get those individual words and make 4 different variables out of them ?
Currently I'm using javascript which works fine to pass text from textfield A to textfield B:

Is there a way to pass the textfield A text to a dynamic text input (flash) as I'd like to use the font embedding flash offers. I can make it work when loading a value from a txt file but I'm not sure how to access the value identified above as KitGroupID_16_TextOption_38 and make it appear in a dynamic input box. Eventually I might want to have 3 font choices for the user but I'd like to just see if I can get this working properly first.
Is it possible to count the amount of words in a dynamic text field in flash 8?

View 5 RepliesI've created a dynamic text field - mediaImportName001 (created , and populated it with the name of a file that I choose to import using a browse button (as3 and AIR).This works fine - I can import the file, and the name appears in the field.
I'd now like to pass the contents of the text field to another text field. But I can't get the contents. If I try to trace the contents of the textField trace("mediaImportName"+thisNum).text - Flash returns "undefined" (even though I'm asking it to trace after the field has been populated).
I use the following code to check that the field really is there and named correctly (the code returns the children):

Now, the issue is I don't want the text field to be limited to X number of characters, but the actual width of the characters.
Computer A - running a projector file
Computer B - running a projector file
NEED: pass the contents of a text field on comp A to a text field on comp B.At this point, the best solution I can come up with is to pass the text field to an XML file on a shared server and then pull the XML into the second computer.
PROBLEM: My (albeit little) experience is in PHP, and my company uses ASP. I'm on the television broadcast side and don't have access to create or test on our shared server.

If there is a link in a text with a hash like example.com/#about it comes to problems. So how to extend it to find only words that have also a space in front of the #? (E.g.: hello #world)

I'm 100% sure my php script is correct. Only 3 of my variables are being sent and the others are not. I think the problem is that I have duplicate variable names and can't find the duplicate in my timeline.

Right now, I'm trying to figure out a way to load a list of names into one dynamic text field that changes at certain time intervals. I'm using ActionScript 2 right now b/c I haven't learned 3, yet. Is there a way for Flash to access a word document and load a name say, every minute? I know I could add a different variable name in front of each employee name, like content, content1, content2, but I have a list of like 300 names here. That would take up almost as much time as it would creating a slide for each name in Power Point.

What im doing is trying to duplicate is the text box so that when i want to load new_box.swf (with a variable name "company") into main.swf into a movieclip with an instant name "loader." using this:

I can get the movie to load but it loses the variable "company" in the process and when i send the form it doesnt work. If i just keep it in the main timeline it works but not when i loadMovie.
Is it possible to login through flash using one Dynamic Text Field and one Input Text Field and no buttons? If so how? I have seen many tutorials dealing with logging in to PHP using flash but it requires you to make your own php scripts which i am not familiar with. But having the user input a number, store it as a variable, store which function the user wants to perform and clear the text field then store the new input in the same text field as a different variable and multiply or add or divide or subtract the 2 numbers and getting the equals sign to display the answer when clicked is harder than I thought it would be.

I am working on a file that has a rotating dial, and I'd like the dial to reveal contents of a text field (a link) as the dial points in the direction of the text field. I have 4 text fields located at 90, 180, 270 and 360 degrees (top, bottom, left and right). I have it controlled via AS, so I've got all the Math but I was hoping someone might know how to reveal the links when the arrow (in the dial) is pointing in these directions.I set up a text field for testing, which shows the degrees, but I'm getting 'NaN' in the field (problems with Theta and converting degrees to Radians, I think). I thought this might help me figure out how to reveal those links, if I can get the NaN to work.Currently, the file is rotating with an onPress, but I'm going to convert it to a mouse follow, instead, so the user only has to float around to see the links.

I can make this happen, but the problem is that the dinamic field shows its new text in the same format as the Input field. For example, the input text is written in TimesNewRoman and the dinamic text is in Arial, but when the dinamic text shows the input, the text is still in TimesNewRoman when I want it to be in Arial.

I have a scenario where I want to dynamically add words of text to a container so that it forms a paragraph of text which is wrapped neatly according to the size of the parent container. Each text element will have differing formatting, and will have differing user interaction options. For example, imagine the text " has just spoken out about ". Each word will be added to the container one at a time, at run time. The username in this case would be bold, and if clicked on will trigger an event. Same with the news article. The rest of the text is just plain text which, when clicked on, would do nothing.
Now, I'm using Flex 3 so I don't have access to the fancy new text formatting tools. I've implemented a solution where the words are plotted onto a canvas, but this means that the words are wrapped at a particular y position (an arbitrary value I've chosen). When the container is resized, the words still wrap at that position which leaves lots of space.I thought about adding each text element to an Array Collection and using this as a datasource for a Tile List, but Tile Lists don't support variable column widths (in my limited knowledge) so each word would use the same amount of space which isn't ideal. how I can plot words onto a container so that I can retain formatting, events and word wrapping at paragraph level, even if the container is resized?
I'm making a project in which I have a input/output text box. I'm trying to restrict the words that are able to be said in the input box, but I can't seem to figure out how I'd do that. I'd think that I'd use .replace, and possibly an if function which tells it that if a word used does not equal the allowed words, to replace it with something such as ###.

View 4 RepliesI'm planning to make a game that gives players the choice to search a word when selecting a character, and if that word is found, they get to play as them. I don't even have a clue what, where and how I am gonna put the list in the game for something to search it. I'll try to give an example:
A user puts "horse" into the input field, presses the "Search" button, and Flash searches the word "horse" in a list of maybe 30 or so words. If it returns no results, a message says, "keyword not found". If it is found, a picture of a horse comes up in the character preview box.
