ActionScript 2.0 :: Flash Button That Copies Text From A Text Field?

nextImage.text.copy();???
}
i dont know if im in the correct area
whats the code

Currently I'm using javascript which works fine to pass text from textfield A to textfield B:
Code:
window.onload=function()
{
document.forms.form1.shirtText.value=document.forms.form1.KitGroupID_16_TextOption_38.value
}
Is there a way to pass the textfield A text to a dynamic text input (flash) as I'd like to use the font embedding flash offers. I can make it work when loading a value from a txt file but I'm not sure how to access the value identified above as KitGroupID_16_TextOption_38 and make it appear in a dynamic input box. Eventually I might want to have 3 font choices for the user but I'd like to just see if I can get this working properly first.
Is it possible to login through flash using one Dynamic Text Field and one Input Text Field and no buttons? If so how? I have seen many tutorials dealing with logging in to PHP using flash but it requires you to make your own php scripts which i am not familiar with. Can some one tell me how to do this with PHPBBs existing php scripts... I want to be able to login thorugh a Input Text Field box and have it verify it in PHP and also be able to register and view other PHP info such as users online and FAQ..
View 2 RepliesI created a somewhat custom Spark button by doing the File > New > MXML skin and basing it on spark.components.button. The problem is that I need to add an extra text field to the button component and dynamically change that text...but of course, the property isn't recognized on a Spark Button.
Is there a simple way to add this field to my custom button skin & its property so it can be addressed? If not, is there a simple way to take what I've done and just extend the Spark Button? I can't seem to find any examples that show how to do it without writing it all up in ActionScript.
when it comes to flash but managed to learn enough this past week to get a simple website up (getting laid off so scrambling to get portfolio online!). I have an upload test at lisedupuis.net. In my work section I have a bunch of thumbnails (buttons) for all of the video. Basically, I want to add a text field under the video player which will contain a movie clip name. I want to set it up so that when you mouse over the thumbnails the text changes to the correct movie clip name. I thought maybe creating an event listener might work but can't seem to figure out how to write it. Been looking online and not finding exactly what I need and I am in a huge rush.
View 5 RepliesI have a dynamic text box that acquires text from a txt file.
Sometimes the text is greater than the text field so I want to be able to show a page up and page down button. However I do not want these displayed if the text does not exceed the field.
Currently the buttons are always displayed.
I understand how to get the text field info, I do not understand the "easy" bit of only loading the buttons if the text field size is exceeded.
I've got a dynamic text field in my button object. I have named the text field "myText". How can I modify the text within it? myButton.myText.text = "test"; won't work, because it can't access myText.
View 2 RepliesI am trying to call a dynamic text field that's in a button. Something like:
Code:
btnName.textFieldName.htmlText = flashvarsObj.randomFlashVar || "";
I wish it was this simple, but unfortunately this doesn't seem to be working.
I'm making a calculator using Flash MX that works the same way as the basic calculator found on windows (not the scientific one). But having the user input a number, store it as a variable, store which function the user wants to perform and clear the text field then store the new input in the same text field as a different variable and multiply or add or divide or subtract the 2 numbers and getting the equals sign to display the answer when clicked is harder than I thought it would be.
View 3 RepliesI have what seems to be a simple task, yet I cannot seem to figure it out. I am busy creating a project in ActionScript 3, and while I am fairly fluent in ActionScript 2, I am being stumped a bit here.
I have a simple dynamic text field inside a button object. This text field has the name of txt_title. I have attached event handlers to change the alpha of the buttons when they are hovered over, however I also want to change the value of the text field within the button, when hovered over. My event listener looks like follows:

I am working on a file that has a rotating dial, and I'd like the dial to reveal contents of a text field (a link) as the dial points in the direction of the text field. I have 4 text fields located at 90, 180, 270 and 360 degrees (top, bottom, left and right). I have it controlled via AS, so I've got all the Math but I was hoping someone might know how to reveal the links when the arrow (in the dial) is pointing in these directions.I set up a text field for testing, which shows the degrees, but I'm getting 'NaN' in the field (problems with Theta and converting degrees to Radians, I think). I thought this might help me figure out how to reveal those links, if I can get the NaN to work.Currently, the file is rotating with an onPress, but I'm going to convert it to a mouse follow, instead, so the user only has to float around to see the links.
View 5 RepliesIf I have an input text field on frame 1 and I enter text in it then I have a button that say sends me to frame 2. On frame 2 I have a button which sends me back to frame 1. Why when I got back to frame 1 is my text not shown?Why does an input text field go blank when leaving the frame? How can I make it so when i enter text on frame 1 and then go to frame 2 and then back to frame 1 the text i entered is still there?

View 6 RepliesI want to take a static text field, convert it into a button, and use it as a button. I need it static, because I changed orientation, and I do not know how to do that otherwise. The problem is, even though I converted it to a Button symbol, it does not work when I test the movie. It works fine with "Enable simple buttons", but when I test it, the button is not there, no change in mouse cursor, no reaction at all.So this is what I did:
Made text. // static, not selectable, Orientation: vertical left to right, / //rotated; Two filters: Drop Shadow and Glow;
Converted text field to Button - Symbol (scrollBT)
Editing the Button,I put the same content (the static text field) in all four frames: No luck, not working. without the Hit frame filled (which I think doesn't really make a difference): No luck, not working.Tried again, converting the static text field in the button into a Graphic Symbol: No luck, not working.Tried again, and put some differences in the frames for "ON" and "OVER" etc.: No luck, not working.Tried again, duplicating a similar, working button, edited it, and: No luck, not working.
To the button itself and the AS: The button will be a scroll-button for a text field, with different scroll speeds on rollover and press, but nothing else. The code for that I have (I think). It's something like (and please excuse my incorrect syntax here, but I'm typing from memory; still, I use the Script-Assistant and my syntax is apparently correct; it's also working with other buttons):
on {rollOver} {
function (scroll) {
textfieldtxt.scroll - = 1;}[code]....
I'm at the end of my wits. The only difference I can tell from other (working) buttons I did the same way, is that the scrollBt does not do anything except scrolling, while all of the others have frame actions (gotoAndplay etc.) associated with them.
I've been trying to build a user interface that would allow someone to change the content of a dynamic field (loaded from a text file) using a rich text editor. However the editor inserts inline css style tags like <span style="text-decoration: underline;"> which Flash aparently can't understand. If the editor were instead to insert the following: <span class="ul"> where the stylesheet defined it as:

I am working in Flash CS5 and I have placed a text field (dynamic, classic text) on the stage. I am accessing it through Actionscript on the same frame like this:
var ct:TextField = TextField(getChildByName("Temperature"));
ct.text = "Hello world";
What ACTUALLY appears is this: So... The H, Ls, and D are gone. Mysteriously. Without warning. I am sitting here utterly confused. Is this just me?
PS. The text field is set to Myriad Pro Bold, a font on my computer, so it isn't like it's a font problem.
Problem: I am trying to get a very simple text resize going, for my main content area in a flash website. My aim is to get a button, that on click, increases the text size of a dynamic text field.

This is what I tried, I am very new to Action Script, so excuse the futility of my code.
I have made a movie clip which I export to ActionScript 3.
In this movie clip I have drawn a text field (area? well TEXT) using the plain "Text Tool".
After selecting the text, and after I have entered "0" to be displayed, I edit its properties. It's Instance Name, defined at the very top of the list I have written "score". The text engine is TLF Text and the text type "Read only".
When I have made a instance of the movie clip using AS3 I can't get the value of the text instance named "score" - when calling something like trace(getChildByName("score")) in the constructor I just get null.
I want to be able to get the value of the text "score", and I would also like to change its value.
Just how do I get the value from ActionScript? I don't want to have to create the text progamatically and position it, and I doubt that I have to.
I am trying to show input text to another text field on run time. I want to show the myOutputBox with in a movie clip. The code is below:
Actionscript 3
package
{
import flash.display.Sprite;
import flash.display.Stage;

I have a project that has a heap of variables that I have created for workd definitions. I have made a dynamic text box so it just loads up the correct text from the variable. NOW, question is I want to use a listener? (A href?) to know if the user is clicking on a word inside the dynamic text box. There are some words in some of the definitions that I hav also written separate variables and definitions for. e.g. in the definition for promotion var w5="Promotions"; var def5="Promotions are where your business tries to increase the sales of a particular item through offering a good deal, advertising or a special display.There is the word advertising, I want to call a function that will then bring up the variable for advertisiing and so change the text in the dynamic textbox

Is it possible to create gradient text with text in a text field, without using a different object?
I have three text fields sitting right next to each other, to create a row. Some times the text is longer than the width of the text field, I don't want to widen the the text field to make it fit, I just want to fade the last 20 - 50 pixels of the text out.
Is this possible to do without using an object above it, such as a gradient?
I have a problem with a dynamic text field. I have 1 text field on frome 10 which displays text from a text file. This text can change when a button is clicked. I have another text file on frame 20, which i want to display what ever text is in the text filed on frame 10.
I have tried:-
[AS]MyTextboxFrame20.text = MyTextboxFrame10.text;[/AS]
but it doesn't work.
How can I set/change the text of tlf Text Field using jsfl. Apparently .setTextString() only works for classic text fields.
View 1 RepliesWhat I'm trying to do is to write something in an input field and then it should show up in a dinamic field. I can make this happen, but the problem is that the dinamic field shows its new text in the same format as the Input field. For example, the input text is written in TimesNewRoman and the dinamic text is in Arial, but when the dinamic text shows the input, the text is still in TimesNewRoman when I want it to be in Arial.
View 11 RepliesI've created a dynamic text field - mediaImportName001 (created , and populated it with the name of a file that I choose to import using a browse button (as3 and AIR).This works fine - I can import the file, and the name appears in the field.
I'd now like to pass the contents of the text field to another text field. But I can't get the contents. If I try to trace the contents of the textField trace("mediaImportName"+thisNum).text - Flash returns "undefined" (even though I'm asking it to trace after the field has been populated).
I use the following code to check that the field really is there and named correctly (the code returns the children):
for (var i:uint = 0; i < this.numChildren; i++){ trace (this.getChildAt(i).name + ' type:' + typeof (this.getChildAt(i))+ ' ' + this.getChildAt(i));}
it returns:
instance370 type:object [object Shape]mediaImportName001 type:object [object TextField]mediaFiletype001 type:object [object TextField]
How do I get Flash to give me the text in mediaImportName001?
It's bizarre - this.getChildAt(i).name
from above gives me...
mediaImportName001 ,
yet
trace (["mediaImportName"+thisNum].name);
returns undefined (thisNum represents an increment I use to name multiple clips and text fields, and in this case trace(thisNum); returns 001)
I know this simple question. But i not much experience in Flash AS2.O. I have one empty dynamic text file in the instance name "my_text". I have set the Embed option in that file. Now I need to add the text to that file through AS2.0.
I have tried both the code is not working.
my_text.htmlText = "My Name is Balaganesh K";
(or)
my_text.text = "My Name is Balaganesh K";
I have the folowing codo to load text from a text file into a text field in my flash document:
loadVarsText = new loadVars();
loadVarsText.load("homePage.txt");
loadVarsText.onLoad = function(success) {
[Code]....
the same, and I want to make the homePage.txt file load when the flash file starts, that is what it does right now by placing the code on the main timeline.
I want to make a search button on my site. I have a bunch of pdf files in a specific location on my site. I want to create a search field where the end user inputs text into a field and flash locates and opens the corresponding pdf file.
View 1 RepliesI created a movie clip that I'm using as a button The text label on the button is determined dynamically by a variable (txtVar1) in the code. The EventListeners tell the button movie clip what frame to display acording to the mouse state. The problem is, when you mouse over the button, it "forgets" the var:String in question. It should continue to display the text from the variable ("One Bedroom") regardless what frame the button clip is currently on. I think I need a way to update or refresh this variable with each mouse movement. Also, the whole thing seems to only function once, or sporadically at bestAnother weird thing is, it's ignoring the "buttonMode = true" statement for some reason.
stop();
var txtVar1:String = "One Bedroom";this.lgndOneBedroom_mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER,
