Flash :: Access Dynamic Text Field Within A Button Using An Event Handler?

I have what seems to be a simple task, yet I cannot seem to figure it out. I am busy creating a project in ActionScript 3, and while I am fairly fluent in ActionScript 2, I am being stumped a bit here.
I have a simple dynamic text field inside a button object. This text field has the name of txt_title. I have attached event handlers to change the alpha of the buttons when they are hovered over, however I also want to change the value of the text field within the button, when hovered over. My event listener looks like follows:

I seem to be having a recurring problem attaching events to a button i have created within 2 other movieclips.I get the following error:
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
So it looks like it can't find the button, in order to attach the event listener. The question is why? I am attaching a similar event to a button on the main timeline and that works fine. So it looks like a scope issue, but I am referring to it properly.

I've got a dynamic text field in my button object. I have named the text field "myText". How can I modify the text within it? myButton.myText.text = "test"; won't work, because it can't access myText.

Is it possible to login through flash using one Dynamic Text Field and one Input Text Field and no buttons? If so how? I have seen many tutorials dealing with logging in to PHP using flash but it requires you to make your own php scripts which i am not familiar with. Can some one tell me how to do this with PHPBBs existing php scripts... I want to be able to login thorugh a Input Text Field box and have it verify it in PHP and also be able to register and view other PHP info such as users online and FAQ..

Currently I'm using javascript which works fine to pass text from textfield A to textfield B:

Is there a way to pass the textfield A text to a dynamic text input (flash) as I'd like to use the font embedding flash offers. I can make it work when loading a value from a txt file but I'm not sure how to access the value identified above as KitGroupID_16_TextOption_38 and make it appear in a dynamic input box. Eventually I might want to have 3 font choices for the user but I'd like to just see if I can get this working properly first.

I'm trying to access a text input that I've already placed on the stage (inside a movie clip) but with no luck.I've defined an instance name for this dynamic text field which is currentUserCount.I've got something like this set up in the document class actionscript file:

I need a few pointers on how to create multiple buttons programmatically with different event handlers, or rather: differently parametrized event handlers. My real use is a bit more complex, but it comes down to this: I need a button that can delete itself upon getting clicked.

I created a movie clip that I'm using as a button The text label on the button is determined dynamically by a variable (txtVar1) in the code. The EventListeners tell the button movie clip what frame to display acording to the mouse state. The problem is, when you mouse over the button, it "forgets" the var:String in question. It should continue to display the text from the variable ("One Bedroom") regardless what frame the button clip is currently on. I think I need a way to update or refresh this variable with each mouse movement. Also, the whole thing seems to only function once, or sporadically at bestAnother weird thing is, it's ignoring the "buttonMode = true" statement for some reason.

I can't reference a dynamic text field inside a button, sends an error.... so... How can I do a work around on this? I need...
a) to set a variable to a string value based on button clicked.
b) the button to represent embedded text (I am using a custom font).
Simple trick, or link? Or is there a way I am not finding to reference a dynamic text field within a button?

I have a dynamic text on the stage which gets updated (shows numbers) when some buttons are pressed.I just need to know if it is possible to show the first dynamic textfield in another dynamic textfield.Lets say the first dynamic textfield called "price" and the second one called "price2". when a button is pressed, the first dynamic textfield "price" will show a number. is it possible to show whatever is shown in the "price" in "price2" ?

I'm creating an XML-driven pie chart in AS3 with 2 text boxes in each pie slice. Both text fields are dynamic in the sense that they are populated by the XML doc and then told where to place themselves in the AS3. I've got them both using the same x and y position to place themselves at the moment (which of course puts them right one top of each other), but I'd like to make one of the fields (which acts like a label or a title to the larger number and % text field) place itself in a particular spot around the other text field. The result I'm looking for is to have the smaller "title" text field appear approximately 5 pixels above and left-justified to the larger "percentage" field.
Anyway, here are two sections of code that I've currently got. The first chunk, for the Tags portion, sets the position for the "percentage" text field using a good old x and y method. The second chunk, for Titles, is setting the position for the smaller "title" text.

I *know* this is simple. I've read every thread on this board pertaining to this (including senocular's Best Of thread), done everything there and this still doesn't work and I can't see why.
I feel like an idiot even asking, because I've seen the examples and lengthy tutorials.
All I want to do, is change the color of a dynamic text field when you press a button. But I want the name of the field to be a variable.
Now, this is what's there:
1. the variable "_root.expinttype1" is equal to "branch" and is set elsewhere.
1a. There is an existing dynamic field called "branch" on screen.
2. On the button release I set the format:

Why? I set a dummy variable txt = _root.expinttype1; and even threw it into a text field to verify the data, and it shows "branch", so why doesn't this work?

what i tried to do is the following: i created a dynamic text, gave it a name and converted it to symbol (Button; together with a shape). then i created an instance of it and gave this one a name as well.i tried to access the dynamic text using the following as 3 code:

however, that doesnt work, and the following error shows up: "TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference."its interestion that all that works for the symbol being a movie clip instead of a button.is there a possibility to access the dynamic text inside the button as well? is there a reason for the difference between the button and the movie clip?

I have written a framework that facilitates RPC calls between AS3 and PHP 5 called FlashMOG. I recently got a forum request that has introduced a pretty bizarre question regarding access control. The basic idea is that I have a FlashMOGService class which has an RPCSocket member that it may share with other FlashMOGService objects. The idea is that you can create two distinct FlashMOGService objects and have them both connect to the same host/port via socket. I use my special RPCSocket class for two reasons:
1) Let developers use one port but separate functionality into two distinct services...a form of multiplexing i guess
2) RPCSocket adds functionality to the standard Socket class that works to serialize and unserialize data and get it where it needs to go. The essence of the problem here is that created a class with a FlashMOGService object as a member and has tried to assign a private method of his class as an event handler to the FlashMOGService object:

My initial thought is that this should be fine because it's all done within the class. However, when I consider the monkey chain that results in this function being called, it seems almost logical that it wouldn't work. The problem is that the browser freezes when a socket message arrives that tries to call the service's client method, _service.client.firstClientMethod. This client firstClientMethod is attempted when data arrives from the server on the Socket (an RPCSocket, actually). The RPCSocket class deserializes the socket data and extracts an array with a service name, a method name, and an array of arguments. It looks into its own private class variable (an array of services using the RPCSocket) and tries to invoke whatever function was assigned thusly:

I am trying to figure out a way for an action script to change the background color of a particular button state.
I have a puzzle graphic. As the mouse moves over the pieces of the puzzle, the colors change. When the mouse clicks on the puzzle piece I want them to permanently change. However, I cannot figure out how to access the bgcolor property of a button state object, such as the up state.

I am working in Flash CS5 and I have placed a text field (dynamic, classic text) on the stage. I am accessing it through Actionscript on the same frame like this:

What ACTUALLY appears is this: So... The H, Ls, and D are gone. Mysteriously. Without warning. I am sitting here utterly confused. Is this just me?
PS. The text field is set to Myriad Pro Bold, a font on my computer, so it isn't like it's a font problem.
