so to make it easy, it put the movieclips inside the floor movieclip into an array, like this:

View 9 Repliesi am making a sidescroller and i'm working on the collision and the way my teacher suggested was to give all the movie clips an instance name (which i did), but i'm not too sure on how to put them into an array for collision detection
the movie clips are within a movie clip simply named levelOne (and lvlOne_mc for as) which is exported for action script. the pieces within are well named and have an instance name (for example the first platform instance name is Pf01) but i don't know how to set up the array so i can set up collision detection between the character and the objects

View 1 RepliesI am writing an interactive 'bingo' game which creates a bingo card with 20 boxes. In AS2 I used duplicateMovieClip and 'push'ed the duplicate into an array. I could them access each movie clip when clicked (to turn a cross on or off on the movie clip). My original movie clip is called symbol_box_mc and the array I want to push it into is called symbol_box I've a load of other queries about this project but one step at a time! I have made an array that creates a menu within a sidebar (this is embeded in a MovieClip, so that it can be tweened in and out dynamically). When you click a menu item created by the array, it loads a swf and plays it. This all works fine. My problem is this: I would like to use that same array to have a "fast forward" and "rewind" feature that plays the next or previous .swf in the array. The other kink is that the swfs need to "autoplay", as in, when one swf is done, the next in the array should start. I am stumped on how to do the fast forward, rewind, and autoplay stuff using the array...

View 6 RepliesI want to assign a specific frame from a movie clip to a specific item in an array. I have a movie clip with 52 frames and each one has a different image of a playing card. I also have an array in a separate as file that has 52 items. If say I want to assign frame 1 of the movie clip to array[0] what exactly must be done? If I click on a button and a two of spades is drawn, how do I make sure the two of spades frame in the movie clip is chosen?

I want to have an array that loops my movie clips.However, there also needs to be the ability for the loop to stop and play a specific movie clip when a specific thumbnail that corresponds to that clip is clicked on.Then, when that movie is done playing, the array is accessed again and the array continues once again, also looping.I don't even know if this is possible.I set up something that worked in Flash Catalyst, but the only problem is that FC doesn't have the ability to have a fullscreen button in it for the document.I need to be able to have the entire document go fullscreen when a button is pressed.I do not have Flash Builder.[code]

I have movie clip in an array (newStep) that is being added to the stage dynamically. It's randomly choosing a frame to go to every time an instance is added. There is a nested movie clip (stepLine) that i need to change the alpha of. This code actually works for adding a string to to the dynamic text box (pointsDText) but when i try to access the nested movie clip (stepLine) it gives me 1009 null object reference error. The funny thing is the code actually works and does change the alpha of the movie clip but i still get that error, and i think it's making my game more glitchy. I've tried using if(contains(steps[r].stepLine)) too but it doesn't work. Is there a better way to access this movie clip without getting the error?

I've an empty array and some global variables, and I have two movie clips in my library: one is a trigger, second is the movie clip that is placed on the stage when the trigger is activated (a testdummy, if you want).

...I get an obvious error : Scene 1, Layer 'actions', Frame 1, Line 66 1120: Access of undefined property dummy. Because dummies are created within a function. I don't have any trouble addressing items in the 'dummies' array though.
Though dummies are crated by the same pattern, data stored in them is the whole point of creating the application.
how can I apply a function to each of those dummies, which is executed on click and affects only one dummy?
I want to store their locations as a variable, then just call that variable in a Tween. I read somewhere that it has to be an Array. However, I don't know how to call it without getting commas in between instead of dots.

I send to the function a movie clip that I use for drag and drop, so when I drop this function is called. The problem is that of the three rectangles that I use for contain the others, only the last senses the drop target.
How do I load a movie clip randomly from an array? Do I need to use a container movie clip to load them into? I've tried a few methods that work for external swf's - but I want to load movie clips that are already in my library.

I'm trying to do a game in as3, but i get a problem, i got an array :var movieClipArray:Array = new Array(new monClip1(),new monClip2(),new monClip3(),new monClip4(),new monClip5())that each clip appears randomly and for a random time, but for special buttons, you can suppress some clips, the problem is that with monClip1, and monClip5, its quiet easy with shift() and pop(), because they will always be the first and last of the array, but for the rest, s they wont be the same order, we cant only use a splice(), so I tried with indexOf, but it doesnt work ...

The code below adds all the childrens of specific movie clip to the array called arrayBox. The next loop SHOULD loop through all the items inside arrayBox and check if any of those items (those items are all movie clips) is colliding with movie clip which isn't in array called avatar. If so, it should pop up the output and change some variable, but the point is that something with second loop is wrong...

I have an array that holds a list of items. In a movie clip, I have that same list as the frame labels. I'm using a for loop to iterate through the array and then assigning event listeners so that when you roll over an icon, it sends the movie clip to the right frame label (matching the item in the array).
However, the code I have now only returns the first match and not any of the others. Here's my code:

What would be the best way to output a multidimensional array so that later on I could input it (through user input) and it won't be to hard to read it?
