I have a very simple ExternalInterface.call in my flash that isn't working in IE9. I have ever simplified it is just call a javascript alert and it still isn't working. It works great in every other browser. I have IE 9.0.8. Does anyone know if this is this a known bug in IE9, or if there would be a good alternative to ExternalInterface? I can't find anything on the internet that is working.

I am having a problem using ExternalInterface.call to a javascript function. I have used this method many times in many places and at some point during this project, it was working, but now it stalls my Flash file when executed. I have the function: var initialize=function(){ExternalInterface.call("SCOInitialize");statusTxt.text="initializing"; } On my html page, there is a SCOInitialize function that works perfectly if I call it via the html page: <body onLoad="SCOInitialize()"> ... </body> When I make the call using flash... initialize(); ...the Flash file just gets hung up and it actually wont execute the second line of code in the function: statusTxt.text="initializing"; What is the deal? I want to call a function inside a Flash movie from javascript, using the ExternalInterface class. The problem is that to get it to work with Firefox I need to use the embed element and with the rest I have to get the object element. To solve it, I gave different ids to that two elements and depending on the user agent I select one or the other:

It works fine on both Firefox and Safari on a Mac. On a pc, however, the Flash has no problem calling JavaScript functions but the JavaScript can't call the ActionScript function. I have a bizarre situation in IE where JS can't call up into flash using ExternalInterface after I hit "refresh". I know the movie is getting loaded and the code that does the ExternalInterface.addCallback() appears to be completing without any error Here's a rundown of the steps to reproduce:
Open IE and load up the movie for the first time, the ExternalInterface callback methods are available to JavaScript. If I hit refresh, the callback methods aren't available and I get the error Object doesn't support this property or method.If I clear my cache and refresh the page, they are available again.If I then hit refresh again without clearing my cache, they're unavailable.If I close the browser and reopen, they're available again.
I've run into this situation before and I'm pretty sure that the extra delay required to download and instantiate the swf is what's allowing ExternalInterface to get set up properly. The way I worked around this before was to add a random number to the end of the swf's url, so that it's never used from cache, but that's not a real solution.

I have avoided adobe products like the plague from when I was developing myself since it costs a fortune to buy and of their products, but big employers love it and pay for it so here I am. Our "Flash" guy just left the team and I inherited this issue. If you read my other post you know what is going on so I will move on. I want to make a simple call from actionscript to my javascript taht is referenced in my other post. I specifically want to call the CheckboxCollection function from inside of actionscript. I don't need to pass it any args or anything of the such from inside of actionscript.
All I need it to do is run that function once the flash is done loading. The javascript function will take care of everything I need, I just HAVE TO HAVE IT called from actionscript to make everything work in harmony. I am in the middle of teaching myself all things adobe and actionscript(much to my dismay), but I really have no clue where top go from here to make this work. I have reviewed adobe documentation, but until I have a better grasp of the language as a whole I am still lost. I copied most of my actionscript on to here, but I did leave out everything that had to deal with mouseover events, since my issue is not about a mouseover and they all work like a charm.
UPDATE: I had to stop working on this to get some other things done, but I am back to step one. NO matter what I do I am having no luck making this work. I have tried all suggestions on here, and tried everything I KNOW how to do, but I am having no luck. If anyone could take a look at this post and the one that I link to (It is the companion javascript for this) and see if they can come up with anything. I have tried so many different iterations of my code there is no use putting all of my trials up for example of what doesn't work,

I've got a very basic test file that just fires a Javascript function with an alert() in it (i.e. alert("You clicked a button."). In IE this works just fine, but in Firefox it wasn't doing a thing. I finally realised it might be SWFObject, so I published the HTML file straight from Flash and all of sudden my ExternalInterface call works perfectly in Firefox as well.

I've been googling this for about 4 hours and there are lots of mentions of the SWFObject requiring an ID attribute for addCallBack calls (hence the attributes object), and I've been through a whole bunch of posts in various forums but can't pinpoint a single solution for ExternalInterface.call() not working with SWFObject in Firefox.
In my Flex app, I need a Javascript control to call one of my Actionscript methods. Simple enough, according to the Flex/Actionscript documentation, I wrote this in my Actionscript code:

Works great. Exactly as expected, so I went to production. But it doesn't work in production :(. Same exact code... I can't figure it out. The above Javascript code is run, but the callback is not executed in the Actionscript code.

The structure of my site is as follows:
mainPage.html contains - menu.swf & iframe1
iframe1 contains - subpage.html
subpage.html contains - subMenu.swf & contentpage.html
The way it works is that when menu.swf is clicked it changes the .src of iframe1 to load the appropriate subpage.html. Then when you click the subMenu.swf it changes the .src of iframe2 to load the appropriate contentpage.html[URL]..
It all works perfectly in Firefox but in IE the ExternalInterface call from the subMenu never reaches the container page to change the .src of the iframe.It seems as though it's something to do with the .swf being inside the iframe because I am still able to call a javascript function from within the iframe using an html button.
I've put together a slideshow in AS3. When the user clicks on an image in the slideshow, I'm using FlashLightboxInjector to bring up a Lightbox version of the image they just clicked on. In my AS3, each time I add a thumbnail into the slideshow, ExternalInterface.call is supposed to call a function within FlashLightboxInjector that appends the image onto a <div>. The div is used as a reference to Lightbox to know what the image path/title are.

This works fine when I don't use a background-image in the body css. However, when I do use a background image, none of the myFlashLightboxInjector.append() functions are called or the appends aren't functioning correctly because they don't show up in Firebug, there is just an empty div. So, when I click on a thumbnail, no Lightbox image comes up.
I've spent about a day on this... Publishing a swf for AS3/FP9, following the example in the ActionScript 3 documentation to get two-way communication between a SWF and javascript. Works great in IE.
I've sifted through what seems like a million posts on the subject, with people getting the same result... the function I/they are attempting to call doesn't exist.
In the documentation example, there's a function to find/return either the SWF as an object or embed tag depending on which browser you're viewing the page in.

I have a flash menu that needs to play a different scene depending on which page it is embedded into. So I need the it to grab the URL of the html page it is on and do some simple test on it to figure out what scene it should be on. *For the record, I tried to do it without scenes but the frame jumping started doing some cracked out things

Somehow, my urlPath isn't getting the correct value, and therefore the if-else latter isn't functioning appropriately. I am posting the website on my test server, so the http addresses are correct, and the if-else latter functions perfectly when I just change the conditions to 'true'/'false', so neither is the problem. The problem is that the alert shows me that the value of urlPath is undefined, and so then all conditions in the latter evaluate to false.
I am having an issues with ExternalInterface.call to return a value in IE. It is working fine in Firefox. Eventhough I changed the "allowscript access" to "always", still it is not working. Is there any thing that I need to change in Flex or the HTML to make this work? or this is a security setting in IE?

The problem is this: I have an swf embedded in an html. I must call a js function in the page from the swf via ExternalInteface. Ok. But it must work locally, for any user, without doing nothing. That's because this thing must be distributed in cdroms.
View 4 RepliesI have a problem in the communication between as3 and javascript: simply I want to use a flash movie in the same page where I included an wmv object player. When I try to invoke a function on JS (from as3) I note that all the normal playstate and commands to handle the wmv player are inverted. (for example the movie is playing the variable document.Player.playstate is set to 2-paused and so on). Even further I figured out I have big problems in fullscreen/set volume commands. Does anyone face this problem too? Where can I find useful links?

I have been trying to get this to work but with no luck.It's in a .Net aspx page. Even stripped the page of everything but this with no luck. And no master page either or ajax.
